Manti Te'o Not Practicing Today, Bront Bird Likely Starter In Week 2

San Diego Chargers LB Manti Te’o still is recovering from his busted up foot and still has not hit the practice field. It would be tough for him to be conditioned to play against the Philadelphia Eagles anyway, but we need him to get back on the field. He has now missed his first 2 starts of the year and we have no clue on when he will be available.

He has been running and doing work on the side field. He is getting closer. The boot is gone. Still, he is not close enough to start practicing.

The league’s 2nd leading tackler, Bront Bird, will get the start in his place. Bird may have a ton of tackles, but that doesn’t tell the story. Bird made a ton of those tackles down the field and he also had a pair of touchdowns caught by the tight ends he should have been covering. He needs to make an impact with some of those plays.

This week, he will be trying to gather in Lesean McCoy and cover Brent Celek. It will be another tough assignment for Bird. We need him to make plays.

Okay I’m convinced it’s not a “foot sprain”. It’s something more serious and required a lot of rest for it to heal right. My patience is wearing thin. I want the young man to do well and be healthy, but nobody is a 100%. Time to suck it up, tape it up and play.

    • TheReturnOfMrBlanks

Toradol shot to the foot brother, tough it out 3 hours and then rest another week.

      • arnie

This is the pro’s, if 70 to 80% is all you have? Then go with what you got.

    • Thomas87

I’m ALOT bigger then teo 6’8 270 and I’ve sprained my left foot twice and it never took more then 4-5 weeks before I was Able to give it 100%.. He must have jacked it up alot worse then him and McCoy are saying.. Unless they really are just taking it slow…

      • shayaaa

Strangest part is he “realized” his injury after the game iirc and was playing on it for a while

        • boltingindiego

he was only on the field for 10 plays that game

          • shayaaa

            My b

          • boltingindiego

no worries just stating it would have been different if he did that during a reg season game not like a preseason game where he didn’t have that much action.

      • arnie

I hear ya. Then in this case I’d like them to just come out and say it. It’s more serious, and they don’t want to make it worse. I get that, then just say that.

      • boltingindiego

then you had a mild sprain in your foot while Teo has a more serious one which can take up to a minimum of 6 weeks.

        • Thomas87

Lol you know how bad my sprain was??? No you don’t your just assuming you do

        • Mz. Sarah

Stay out of the clubs 3 nights a week and it will heal faster!!

    • NativeSanDiegan

For some reason I’ve thought it to be plantar fascia or similar. Just didn’t want to freak people out. Don’t think it’s as severe as LT’s or Gates’ injuries but you don’t just slap on a boot for anything. My other unpopular thought: discipline for someone who thinks they are bigger than the team. Why did he fly in family if he knew injury wouldn’t keep him out of the game? To pressure MM into playing him? Or maybe he isn’t ready mentally to play? Does ‘quite understand the playbook. One of these years we’ll learn the truth.

  • tubbs45

Seriously, please heal faster… foot sprain my arse!

LMFAO!!! This GIF is giving me seizure!!! Got any kitty GIF’s? Lol…

  • TheReturnOfMrBlanks

You can be out 5-6 weeks with a foot sprain for sure especially being a guy that is 230 plus pounds of pressure your putting on it, it’s not a strain were you can come back in a couple weeks.

Chip Kelly is going to throw and Run at BB 150 times lol he might be #1 in tackles by the end of the game, I’d really try to swing a trade with a team that has MLB depth if Te’o is going to miss anymore time.

Manti’s been out so long I bet he doesn’t come back til week 4.

    • TheReturnOfMrBlanks

I would also like to point out that my biceps are bigger then BB’s, never should I be able to say that about any MLB.

    • shayaaa

It’s ridiculous that Bird is our number one backup for the position. He could not cover a single person and then decides to gloat and talk shit to Arian Foster the ONE positive play he had… Pretty despicable. He should really be more humble considering 99% of plays someone else could be getting in his face for how pathetic his game is.

    • Mz. Sarah

I say by week 6 at this rate. Hell Ingram may be back before boot boy!

  • http://www.BoltBeat.com/ Peter Thompson

Scary. Bront is going to get picked on again. So is Cox, if he doesn’t clean up his act from Monday. I hope this game doesn’t get away from us too. Let’s play like the team from the first half of the Texans game ALL GAME! And have Freeney pick on Lane Johnson while you are at it… maybe English will have his coming out party? Yeah.. probably not gonna happen, but we need it to.

    • TheReturnOfMrBlanks

We really need to hit the crap out of Vick every time he starts running, JJ smash tackle style. I am really hoping we come out with the quicker tempo offense we have been hearing about and try to score a boat load of points with the Eagles like a AFL game……that would be so sick but really bad for our defensive stats.

      • http://www.BoltBeat.com/ Peter Thompson

Can you imagine the Chargers AND the Eagles no-huddling each other to death… lol. They are gonna need stretchers on the sideline with breathing tubes = ]

        • TheReturnOfMrBlanks

I would love it, beat em at their own game, why not? It would be like a basketball game lol

        • Thomas87

We need as many looks on offense as we can get!! Play calling against Houston was Poor and almost predictable the second half

    • Thomas87

Oh I’m sure Double J will get his… He had fire in his eyes against the texans I really wish out whole team would play with that Fire/intensity.. I also really liked what rivers did in preseason with the up tempo offense it really slowed the cards down alot.. I think if chip plans on wearing our D out that we do just the same..

  • Stefanie Smith

In the back of a lot of people’s mind is whether T’eo is like Jared Gaither was.

    • TheReturnOfMrBlanks

lol What? He’s a baller, he has no track record for that. He must be really hurt and the new coaching staff just doesn’t like to tell anyone anything about injuries.

      • Thomas87

I’m pretty sure week 1 vs Houston was the only game teo had missed EVER

        • Stefanie Smith

Actually, we have been able to see him in one pre-season game. The coach needs to explain what is going on. It’s been a long time since he has practiced or played. They need him playing.

      • Stefanie Smith

I don’t think that. But I have heard it come out of people’s mouths. That something is wrong with him. Personally, I think he does not have a sprain, but something worse. People are freaked out right now. They are saying weird stuff.

        • TheReturnOfMrBlanks

He hasn’t played can’t be bust without playing. Is Ingram a bust?
Te’o is going to be a beast just has to get healthy give it time.

          • Stefanie Smith

I don’t think Ingram is a bust. It’s not his fault he has a torn ACL, but this is a “What have you done for me lately” profession. What they will report is he hasn’t played in almost 3 years, when he finally gets out there. And they won’t cut him any slack when he finally gets out there. Look what they say about Amendola. All they report on is that he is injured all the time. It’s a negative whether it is their fault or not.

  • Jordan

Wait i don’t get it, was birds performance really that bad? Him being around the football that much should count for somthing right. Also I think our will much better against Philly, cox should look better against the smaller receivers. Andre Johnson killed that man

  • http://boltbeat.com/ ChargerGirl Cindi

I took less time off of sports after giving birth. If it isn’t broken why is he not practicing? Dislike!
