San Diego Chargers – Week 1 Bright Spots

Despite the ugliness that we saw on Monday there were a couple of performances that impressed in the game.

Dwight Freeney

Freeney was able to get to the quarterback often. He had the inside move working and used that spin move to get to the quarterback often. He picked up half a sack, 3 QB Hits and pressured the quarterback 6 more times. Too bad he didn’t have much help from the other guys on that defensive front. Corey Liuget and Kendall Reyes were nowhere to be found.

Jarret Johnson

Johnson looks like a different player already this year. He stood out in the preseason and he played well again in the first game of the year. He picked up a sack, knocked down the quarterback a couple of times and had that tipped pass to lead to an interception. At least the outside linebackers are getting their job done.

Eddie Royal

He definitely dropped a pass that could have gotten a first down and could have changed things, but there are some things that stood out with his performance. He has the confidence of Philip Rivers, which is huge. He didn’t show any effects of the bruised lungs in the game and he caught a pair of touchdowns. Not a breakout performance, but something to build on.

I like those, let’s add some more.
RM24 held onto the ball. The team with “no o-line” only gave up 2 sacks, and kept the QB from running for his life. The QB only had ONE turnover. The Chargers didn’t get blown out, like most “Experts” thought they would. Everyone picked the Chargers to lose that game, all of them were sweating bullets until 4 minutes left in the 4th quarter.

    Good Night everyone.

I’ll take what I can get. LOL
Why aren’t more people posting on this thread? The Chargers are only going to win 6 games this year, so let’s find something too celebrate.

          Couldn’t post-busy driving etc.
Positive – nobody was seriously injured. D kept Foster under control (for the most part). Weddle was solid. S.T. were solid for the most part.

I agree Arnie. There were some positives to grow on against a very good team. I didn’t realize Matt Schaub was so slippery! He dodged several sacks. I think it’s the way we lost it that has so many faithfuls in an uproar. Too reminiscent of last season. Let’s not forget who we were playing. A very, very good team.

Had the officials not shit the bed there’s a 4 point difference and a potential win

Not only that, it was demoralizing after they had held them to a field goal! Truth!
