San Diego Chargers RT D.J. Fluker Received Extra Benefits While Attending Alabama

Reports are coming out from Yahoo about San Diego Chargers RT D.J. Fluker receiving extra benefits while in college:

Yahoo Sports authenticated multiple transactions tying Fluker to Davis and others, including cash transfers, hotel stays, furniture, airline flights and other expenses. The records also included a pair of invoices – one submitted to Davis by the mother of an Alabama teammate for monies that had been spent on Fluker’s mother, Annice; another sent from Davis to Fluker’s onetime financial adviser Hodge Brahmbhatt.

Receiving that type of extra love is not allowed by the NCAA.

What can you do about it now though? You can’t suspend Fluker from Alabama games. You can’t suspend him for NFL games. Alabama would have to take the penalty for this one. The school would have to get reprimanded for letting it happen.

How do you stop it? No dang clue.

There is a long list of transactions that Yahoo has scraped together and can all be looked at here: Documents, text messages reveal impermissible benefits to five SEC players

This guys family was dirt poor. I don’t blame him one bit. Fuck NCAA and their bullshit reprehension.

    • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

      agreed

      • PakMaN

Worst case scenario, give him a half game suspension. Or does that only work with the wealthy?

        • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

hahahahahaha… the NFL can’t suspend him for this… i dont think

          • arnie

Nothing they can do. they are trying to maintain a sense of integrity, yet they won’t get rid of the money that is the cause of all this in College sports.

          • http://www.signonsandiego.com/ Ambitoos

            No they can’t.

        • Brandon Rios

Reggie Bush wasn’t suspended so I doubt Fluker would get suspended.

        • http://www.signonsandiego.com/ Ambitoos

Why would he be suspended for something he did in college. If it’s proved Alabama could lose their championship and the school could be suspended. The same thing happened to Reggie Bush. USC lost their championship. Now we have Pete Carol to attend with in the NFL.

    • Mz. Sarah

      Agreed!!!

  • Alex Pitrofsky

If someone offers a NCAA Football player a box of Cheerios for free, the NCAA is all over them. NCAA, chill, get the stick out of your butt

  • arnie

Is that all? It’s not like he received tens of thousands for his autograph. Was it furniture for him? or his mommas house? was the plane tickets and hotel stays for him? Or for his family to come watch him play in at the national title game?
If the NCAA wants to do something about this, i mean REALLY DO something? Get rid of the problem. The M.O.N.E.Y.

    Good man Fluker…….Good man

  • Cgoodness13

C’mon it’s not like he was the. 2nd overall pick and his college bought him a car and a house

The bigger question is what punishment will Bama get handed down? USC paid dearly for Bush. So did Michigan for Weber.

    • veazy

If nobody from the coaching staff or athletic departments is/was involved (what I meant by that is trying to cover it up after learning it already happened, even if they weren’t involved, such as covering up for Sandusky) then they can’t punish the school and it will be too late to give the offending players any real punishment. Reggie Bush had his name erased from the NCAA record books and his Heisman taken away because that was all they could do, but because USC was involved on a staff level, the school was given the bowl ban and had reduced recruiting benefits.

How many houses did Flukers family lose , how long did they sleep in that car. Can’t say I blame him .

The post says chargers LT. He is a RT. Thx

      Ha.. Oops

Why didn’t we take Kenny Vaccaro or Alec Ogletree? So SMH right now.

    • http://www.BoltBeat.com/ Peter Thompson

      Or Whitney Mercilus? Drastic oversights.

    • NativeSanDiegan

      OK Peter
Now that this is almost a day old and nobody else will read it, what does SMH mean? Give me a clue.
      Thanks, Paul

        Lol. Shaking My Head.

        • NativeSanDiegan

Thanks Peter. I’m still SMH at giving our 4th rd pick to move up a few spots to get Te’o. We could have gotten Barrett Jones, the extremely good OL from Alabama. I’m pretty sure we could havesstayed where we were and gotten Te’o. If Te’o had been taken there was still Brown from K-State and another ILB that I can’t think of right now. As for DJ, I love his attitude and work ethic. However, his footwork leaves something to be desired. Hopefully by the end of the year it will have improved enough to call him a solid and within 2 or 3 yrs be all-pro. We’ll see. As for the $ in college it’s a non-issue for DJ, but could be catastrophic for ‘Bama.

    • veazy

You’re joking right? This wasn’t the NFL where scandals involve people doing fucked up shit or driving drunk, this is all about money and the NCAA saving face when it comes to the revenue their sports generate. Are you forgetting the reputation that Te’o has? Do you remember why he got it? It wasn’t because he had an illegal dogfighting operation or got drunk and ran someone over. Fluker isn’t a bad dude, he’s a Charger, but it wouldn’t matter if he were drafted by another team. I wouldn’t hold anything against the players who are involved in bullshit NCAA violations, not even Reggie Bush or Johnny Manziel if I have to throw out a couple names because the ones you really have to look out for are the ACTUAL scumbags and overhyped future NFL busts.

      • http://www.BoltBeat.com/ Peter Thompson

Sorry. I won’t say I don’t like Fluker, because I think he will be up to speed at some point by the end of the season. but I remember that I put my head in my hands when we made the pick. So did just about everyone. The difference is, that I didn’t try to convince myself it was a great pick afterward, like everyone else apparently has. He will probably be a good player, and I am going to have a positive outlook on it. I just think we would have been better served by picking the above mentioned… I am not as concerned about these players being “scumbags” as others are.. neither were the Rams. Still no quality starting safety BTW, and it showed big time against Houston.

        • veazy

Jenkins is just a dumbass, I wouldn’t call him a scumbag.

          • http://www.BoltBeat.com/ Peter Thompson

Sorry Veazy, not following you. Who is Jenkins? It’s still early, and my coffee hasn’t kicked in… hahaha.

          • veazy

When you said the Rams, I assumed you meant Janoris Jenkins, who was removed from Florida after getting in trouble regularly for smoking weed.

          • http://www.BoltBeat.com/ Peter Thompson

No, I was talking about Ogletree.. I know he came with issues, but he isn’t Aaron Hernandez, either. I just love the way he has shown up on game day, and been an immediate quality starter. That’s what this team needed badly. I also have faith that TT & McCoy have what it takes to keep troubled players in line, on & off the field.

Luther Davis took advantage of DJ’s situation. Knowing his background and what he endured is all that he needed. Davis isn’t even a registered agent and was well compensated to attempt to bring these NFL prospects to whom he was “working” with. And Davis is bitter because he got cut and is not playing in the NFL. There’s ways that one “friend” that we all have trusted a little too much and this case it’s LUTHER DAVIS.
