Robert Meachem On His Way Back to The New Orleans Saints

Robert Meachem was a disaster with the San Diego Chargers. He signed a big time deal, but was released by the team over the weekend. It looks like he will be heading back to New Orleans though to sign a deal with the Saints. At least it is a team that knows how to use him. The Saints have gone through a grip of receivers this offseason, signing players like Patrick Crayton and Steve Breaston, hoping to find some depth.

Now they will kick the tires on Robert Meachem. Philip Rivers could never get on the same page with Meachem. Drew Brees likely will find a way to get him the football.

So what does that do to our dead money issue? Hopefully we can recoup something. So now we have to hear how Brees is better cause he can get the ball to sorry ass Meech. Please.

i hear that we could save $715k… not much, but something

      • Nick in PB

Yes, we save a little money. Not much though. I did read something about it. The Saints, if they do indeed sign him, will pay about what Ernie said. We are on the hook for the rest of it.

  • Will

GOOD FOR YOU ROBERT!! He’s gonna go off in New Orleans. Serves the chargers right. Best of luck my man.

    • arnie

Meachum was product of system. Outside of it, he was lost. He just going back to place that makes him look good again. As depth.

  • bajafox

$6 million down the drain with yet another AJ failed experiment. It’s going to take a few seasons to wash our hands of all the AJ/Norv garbage left over from that pathetic era

  • http://www.ukash-casinos.com/ Ukash Casinos

Wasn’t it more like 12M wasted on this guy?

  • arnie

Ernie correct me if I’m wrong, but aren’t the Chargers off the hook for percentage of meachum s salary?

    • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

i hear $715K is all that they will save. just saw a quick note on it though.

      • arnie

        I’ll take it.

  • TheReturnOfMrBlanks

Meach was good as Brees’s 3rd or 4th guy, I bet he does ok again with Brees throwing him the ball.

    • Daryl Peek

Agreed. Most hate Meachem but it’s not his fault AJ overvalued and misdiagnosed his potential. Look at how Meach connected with Brad and Charlie. That’s who he is and that can be positive if that’s all you expect like the Saints did.

      • sweat bear51

Rivers just did not like Meachem he did not know how fast he was you all need a fucking QB u wont win until u get a QB Rivers sucks

        • Daryl Peek

Aw shit! We got a hating troll in the house. I’m critical of PR but you are tripping!! SMH

        • NativeSanDiegan

A little punctuation would help people understand you. As for Rivers ability to throw to Meachem, I believe that our current GM and Coach are learning Philip’s strengths and are building an appropriate receiving corps. Philip excels when throwing to bigger targets such as Vincent Jackson, Malcolm, Gates, etc. With that being said, Philip has struggled with timing when throwing deep to very fast, <6ft receivers who are inconsistent. Norv tried to force Philip to do just that but it wasn't going to work. AJ signed Meach out of desperation. Even coming out of college a lot of mock drafts had us drafting Meach in spite of his poor hands. I was overjoyed when the Saints took him a couple picks before us, (so we chose Buster the Bust). I do believe the Saints are a better fit and they will use him to stretch the field and Drew won't get all frustrated at Meach's drops.
No qb is perfect and we now have a coach and GM that will play to Philip's strengths. It may take a bit of time for Philip to overcome his being shellshocked by all the hits he's taken the last 2 years, but I'm confident that he will.

  • FullCharge

The Saints don’t have to pick up the $5M remaining on his contract with the Chargers?

  • Stefanie Smith

What floors me is AJ thought Meachem would be equivalent to VJax.

    • TheReturnOfMrBlanks

AJ signed him in as a quick “Gotta do something or the fans will hate me even more” type of move. Wish we still had VJax

      • Stefanie Smith

        Yep, I do too.

  • Los Bolts

I thought if he got signed by another team it would help offset the 5 million owed? So, if he signed for a million, we’d be on the hook for 4 million instead of 5.

    Is that not right?

  • http://www.BoltBeat.com/ Peter Thompson

Maybe he can remember how to run a basic hook route for Brees… effing loser.

    • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

      doubt it

  • Gunnar Martin

What a waste of a year for him. Besides the fact that he picked up zillions of dollars from us. smh

  • Jordan

He straight up played us. This pisses me off!

  • Adam

Did Wills comment get purged? What a dick that dude is.

    • http://www.BoltBeat.com/ Peter Thompson

There are a couple other people I wish would get “purged”. I know that it takes a lot for Ernie to do that, though. And rightfully so. If it were me, I would be a purging machine!!! My finger would be on the button 24/7.. hahaha

      • Adam

Lol I usually never trip on his comments, but that rubbed me the wrong way for some reason. WTF is that dudes deal anyway? I can’t figure out of he’s a shitty Chargers ‘fan’ or a hater or a Raiders fan or what

        • http://www.BoltBeat.com/ Peter Thompson

Whatever he is, he is a disturbed ego-maniac, Adam. He does it because he thinks it is funny to get a rise out of people, and for attention. People who do that are usually lonely, and have anger management issues (or something much worse). They unfairly take it out on the rest of the world at random.

I think I saw Ernie say that he suspects that Will made fake Bolt Beat profiles. Only a mentally unbalanced person would go to that kind of trouble to slander somebody over a blog. Somebody who has WAY too much time on their hands, and very little self-respect / moral compass. I’m not sure what originally started his pathetic war on Ernie, but it is probably not worth going to the lengths he goes to.

His mission is to undermine the climate of this site. Whether it is for the purpose of revenge, or the purpose of getting kicks off of the negativity.. it paints a picture of a sad individual. I almost feel bad for those type of people. They like negative attention, and usually have deep rooted emotional problems from their childhood.

  • Rob Base

Drew Bree’s throws to Robert Meachem who’s wide open at the 20…. ugh it goes right threw his hands folks and that’s the game Saints lose! Smh!

    • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

  • FitzWilly

    Fuck MeaChump
hope he gets hit by a bus on the way there :)
