Robert Meachem Part Of Chargers Cuts Today

Oct 28, 2012; Cleveland, OH, USA; San Diego Chargers wide receiver Robert Meachem (12) looks up after dropping a pass in the third quarter against the Cleveland Browns at Cleveland Browns Stadium. Mandatory Credit: David Richard-USA TODAY Sports

The San Diego Chargers have already started making a few moves today. They need to get down to 53 on the roster by the afternoon. I will update this post with all the releases that we make.

Robert Meachem’s time on the San Diego Chargers is done.

LB Thomas Keiser is part of today’s cuts. Keiser stood out in the 3rd game of the preseason. He got to the quarterback and picked up sacks. He was battling for the last linebacker spot on the roster, but lost out. The Chargers will be on the waiver wire to fill this spot. Frank Beltre may hold it down for a little while, but we may need more depth at the position. I haven’t noticed too much of Tourek Williams this preseason.

Here are the cuts from today so far:
Tackle Nick Becton
Linebacker Frank Beltre
Tight End Ben Cotton
Cornerback Marcus Cromartie
Defensive End Logan Harrell
Running Back Michael Hill
Cornerback Josh Johnson
Linebacker Thomas Keiser
Wide Receiver Robert Meachem
Center David Molk
Tight End David Rolf

Now Clip board. Feel bad for Meach though. Oh we’ll next!

  • http://www.signonsandiego.com/ Ambitoos

I think this was pretty well expected. Hell of a hit though

  • Cgoodness13

    Goodman please be next!!!!

    • arnie

I agree he will be next for cuts, but with Meachum gone, that may open the door. Remember Willie and DePalma are on IR and they can only designate one player to return, or they are intelligible to play for the year. This changes everything on who stays an who goes. They need healthy WR that PR can be comfortable with, and Goody is both.

      • Daryl Peek

Does the designation include Ingram, who’s on the PUP?

  • http://www.BoltBeat.com/ Peter Thompson

Welcome to the “Non-AJ” era. Just another reason why I like TT. This sends a message to every player on the team. Step it up, or you will be replaced.. no matter what the cost. What Mike McCoy keeps repeating isn’t just lip service. They are going to put the best 53 players out there. Something Norv, and his undying loyalty to average veteran play, never had the guts (or the intelligence) to do. Tell me why Ladarius Green didn’t get any playing time last year again?

    • JoseSD

Such a change from Norv,, if you don’t produce you won’t be here. with norv there was no accountability or even real competition. I never got the feeling that players felt their starting spots were in jeopardy if they weren’t up to par under Norv. Good to see real change

      • Nick in PB

I agree with Peter, Arnie and Jose. I liked Keiser but I trust in what this new staff is doing. No doubt we will be stacked in the years to come. No nonsense… best 53, period! The fact that they cut Molk too shows you. Wasn’t he suppose to be the heir apparent to Hardwick under Norv’s watch? Expect a few more cuts and additions. I doubt R. Brown makes it to Monday night. There was some good backs cut this round and he is a wasted spot in my opinion. Let’s see who get’s signed to the practice squad from this round of cuts.

    • arnie

      What JoseSD said, and this….
norv did not develop players. From what i’ve seen in the pre-season, there are young players on the roster with real talent. And i ask myself why did he always go shopping for FA to start? because he did not, or did not know “how”, to develop talent.

    • Adam

Yes!!!! It sends a message! That’s why last year some of the players settled. Cause they knew they could get away with it. Now each and every player has a fire lit under their ass

    • Julien Bélair

Rosario was tooooooo good and great and unbelievable or Norv is stupid….

  • http://www.BoltBeat.com/ Peter Thompson

BTW, I agree with you Ernie. Where was Tourek this preseason? Ghost.

    • Tyreece Kaete Sr.

Tourek Williams was looking nice all pre-season

      • http://www.BoltBeat.com/ Peter Thompson

        Didn’t stand out that much.

        • Julien Bélair

he is a project and a situational player. GIve him a year or two to develop

          • http://www.BoltBeat.com/ Peter Thompson

Who’s gonna rush the QB this year, is what I want to know? I know Freeney & Liuget.. then who?

          • Julien Bélair

Liuget, Reyes, a little bit Thomas. Freeney of course. But from what I have seen in the pre season, when the offence have all those guys to think about they forget about JJ. I see that as a upgrade from last year. Plus English is still there until Ingram come ack ( I know it will probably be in december). Anyway I still feel the need to sign a Vet pass rusher until then

          • Tyreece Kaete Sr.

Reyes & if we were watching the same game Larry English, hey he was getting doubled team by the Bears 1st string O, & i knowyou watching that Seahawks game how you think Freeny got into that back field to chase Russ Will English got doubled team, our Pass Rush is solid, also if its anywhere on YouTube check out the play where Freeny killed Palmer English was yet again getting double team

        • arnie

got in the backfield, took poor angles and missed opportunities to create negative plays for offenses.

  • FitzWilly

    WOOOOOOOOO HOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

    Bye Bye MeaChump

  • Cgoodness13

I actually saw tourek causing a lot of pressure this preseason and doing work on SP Teams, he was kinda like Ingram (not putting up numbers but still making a impact).

  • arnie

    BALLS! THAT TOOK REAL BALLS!
If I hadn’t heard it here I would not have believed it. It is now official, the Chargers have made “real” changes in this organization, and everyone is on notice.
    BALLS!

    • Daryl Peek

      EVERYONE!

    • tubbs45

      Brass stones…

    • Adam

      Balls deep!

  • FitzWilly

    Hand-Jobs all around :)
    Well done T^2

    • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

      hahaha

  • Daryl Peek

WOW! First Gaither now Meachem. Taking these cap hits on the jaw like a heavyweight champ. Change we can believe in!

    Surprised about Keiser.

    • FitzWilly

thought for sure Herr Keiser would be a special team shoe in

      • arnie

        don’t close that door….

        • FitzWilly

when CBJ closes a door, he opens a window lol
          or something like that
still got the practice squad :)

  • JoseSD

Aside from the Cardinals game Keiser wasn’t very impressive, don’t forget Cardinals are one of the few teams with a worse o line situation than Chargers. His sacks cameof 3rd stringers and on one he was unblocked and the qb fell trying to run backwards. Tourek actually held up well lik JJ setting the edge on run plays and I think he got a TFL against the Seahawks. He didn’t get a sack but he did get pressure at times. I think they’d rather take the chance with a draft pick than Keiser who was a free agent off Carolina

    • Julien Bélair

but I liked the war Keiser fight and wants it that much

    • Nick in PB

Yea, but they beat everyone but us. They must have been doing something right in the preseason.

  • JoseSD

Which was the worse decision signing Meachem or David Boston 10 years ago. I think the money was the same for both

    • tubbs45

At least Boston made some plays. 1 mill per catch… Worst deal Chargers deal ever….

    • Julien Bélair

      meachem by far

  • Gunnar Martin

    Suck on that Meach

  • BruisingChargers

Measleepatthewheel is finanly gone? TY TT………….
