Max Starks Should Be Cut Before He Leaves Locker Room Tonight

Remember when we were excited about signing Max Starks? WELP. We were wrong! He is TERRIBLE!

This preseason has exposed Max Starks as a terrible, terrible, awful, terrible pass blocker. He can’t handle the speed rush and almost got our quarterbacks killed out there. Philip Rivers, nearly killed. Charlie Whitehurst, nearly killed. Mike McCoy, nearly killed him.

Tonight, Charlie Whitehurst took a beating at the expense of Starks’ terrible play. He gave up a couple of sacks on the left side of the line. It was a beating. It was embarassing.

Starks was supposed to battle for the starting job at left tackle with King Dunlap, but Starks basically gave that job away. There really wasn’t any competition.

Starks can’t be part of this roster. Mike Harris has to be the reserve tackle on the roster. We saw Harris last season and he has learned a lot since then, but it still speaks volumes when he is the man on the roster to overtake Starks.

I expect to see Starks on the unemployment line soon. He probably will get a call from the Pittsburgh Steelers all over again. That is just what he does.

why does the title say he should NOT be cut?

      Fixed it… Oops

  • http://www.BoltBeat.com/ Peter Thompson

He is retiring. Nobody in their right mind would put him on the left.

    • Adam

      Yes. Yes.

  • arnie

I agree. He should just go straight to the airport, and go home. It’s a shame he seemed like he quit once it became clear he might not make the squad.

Is it just me, or did he look like he had been on a donut diet since he left Pittsburgh? He looked slow, fat, and jiggly.

      • arnie

I don’t know. Maybe we can give him a box on his way out. He can earn his money and take meachum with him.

I agree with Arnie. He just gave up.

  • Gunnar Martin

Save some $$$ and open up a roster another roster spot. I’m all for it.

Cement shoes… So slow the slow mo made it look almost like he didn’t even move… Wait that was regular speed…

What a disappointment. Not once, in any preseason game did he step up and start playing well. When he’s getting beat by 2nd and 3rd teamers, it’s done. Over! I saw a guy give him a stutter step and then ran right by him. He was set, just couldn’t react.

  • Stefanie Smith

He didn’t even try. He was capable. This will sound weird, but I started thinking he was doing it on purpose. You hear this stuff about lts and rts letting defense slide right by when they are mad about something.

He doesn’t want to be in SD anyway.

There will be over 650 players released Saturday. Surely there is a left tackle amongst them that is better than Harris. Harris has improved but he’s not the answer in my opinion.

Jammal Brown is still out there, who had some good years with the Saints. Best part is that Starks can just hand him his jersey.

      • arnie

He would be a good option, if they still want more experience on the line.

      • http://www.signonsandiego.com/ Ambitoos

Not too impressed with his stats though.

The Bolts screwed up in the draft; they keep telling us how much they needed a Left Tackle – Duh! Perhaps they could have gone up, or my choice, was to go down and get extra players in the Second Round.
Get ready for the Monday Night “Blood Bath” a poor showing to start the season.

This is just the beginning of the Telesco / McCoy regime. It’s going to take awhile to fix the mess AJ Smith made. Be patient.

I said that months ago; it will be a three year rebuilding project.

          • http://www.signonsandiego.com/ Ambitoos

            Have faith my friend.

  • joerockt

I’m glad I was wrong about Dunlap. While we have not seen him in regular season action yet, if we had to go with Starks, we would have been up shit’s creek for sure.

The big question is, how is this guy go from starting all 16 GAMES last season to a complete (mea)chump?

Free agency is such a minefield. I’m glad at least Cox and Freney are working out.

  • arnie

Starks still here? What’s the hold up? IT’S CUT DAAAAAAAAAYYY!
