Chargers move Mike Willie, Dan DePalma, Chris Gronkowski To Reserve-Injured List

The San Diego Chargers needed to trim the roster 3 more spots today and they did so by moving Dan DePalma, Mike Willie and Chris Gronkowski onto the reserve-injured list. Sucks for these guys, but at least he will have a job again that he will be fighting for next season. The IR seems like a way to keep these guys on the roster, without actually releasing them or putting them on the practice squad.

This could be great news for Seyi Ajirotutu. Two more wide receivers are out of the competition and there isn’t really anyone else that can take the spot, except for Robert Meachem. Mike Willie and Dan DePalma could have had a shot at taking that roster spot, but now they will have to watch from the sideline.

  • Cgoodness13

    They were hurt? Lol

  • arnie

LOL this is called protecting the players you want, from the waiver wire.
    Hey you look hurt.
    No i’m fine coach.
No you REALLY look hurt, you should go see the trainer.

    • Peter Thompson

Well, that’s one way to get it done, isn’t it? Hahahaha!

      • arnie

Well we do have one more pre-season game to play. So your options are, either cut them loose and hope they don’t get swiped up. Or this.
This tells me these guys have a shot at being on the roster, or PS. I make that leap based on what they did when Mouton an Oroko got hurt, they were long shots that went on the waiver wire, when they are cleared they will be released. These three were put on IR, but not “waived”.

I had no idea they were all hurt.

  • Ernie Padaon

Just had this idea… If Meachem were to get “hurt”….. He wouldn’t cost as much against the salary cap… Hmmmm

    • Rob Base

Haha that’s funny C’mon Meach fall on a banana peel.

    • Peter Thompson

Can you have a bounty program on your own player?

      • Nick in PB

hahahaha… I like the way you think Peter! Bounty Bolt!

    • arnie

You have to actually “play” to get hurt.

      • Ernie Padaon

or someone is telling me that the dead money wouldnt all count for this year since it is after june 1…. now i am even more confused… sigh

        • arnie

Where the heck is Stefanie? I’m never going understand this crap and i’m to lazy to look it up.

  • Raleigh Clemente

Do IR players get paid? Anyone know?

    • Ernie Padaon

they should. don’t see why they wouldn’t. they are still employed by the team.

    • Ernie Padaon

when players go on IR in the middle of the year, they still get paid. so i am sure they would

  • Rob Base

No 2013 season for them. Bolts should tryout DaRick Rodgers

    • Ernie Padaon

wouldnt mind, but i doubt they would with his troubles in the past

  • d.hopkins

they got there feelings hurt for not making the team this year and yes they will get paid

  • Gunnar Martin

    What were their injuries…?

    • Ernie Padaon

      Paper cuts

    • Peter Thompson

It was more of an illness… Charlie Whitehurst syndrome. It strikes a lot of preseason players trying to make the roster. The symptoms are being pretty good, but not getting the opportunity to show it : /
