Defensive Linemen (6)
DE1 Corey Liuget
NT1 Cam Thomas
DE2 Kendall Reyes
NT2 Kwame Geathers
DE3 Jarius Wynn
DE4 Damik Scafe

I still think that we will look to add more help here after cuts. Don’t know who will become available, but I am sure that Tom Telesco is looking around.

Middle Linebackers (5)
MLB1 Donald Butler
MLB2 Manti Te’o
MLB3 Bront Bird
MLB4 DJ Smith
MLB5 Andrew Gachkar

Need to keep Gachkar on the roster for his ability on special teams. We need to keep the players that have shown they can play that part of the football game.

Outside Linebackers (5)
OLB1 Dwight Freeney
OLB2 Jarret Johnson
OLB3 Larry English
OLB4 Tourek Williams
OLB5 Thomas Keiser

Frank Beltre could get a spot, but he needs to do better in the run game.

Secondary (9)
CB1 Derek Cox
CB2 Shareece Wright
FS1 Eric Weddle
SS1 Marcus Gilchrist
S Brandon Taylor
NB Johnny Patrick
CB4 Steve Williams
S Darrell Stuckey
S Sean Cattouse

On the bubble/on the outs:
Jahleel Addae played like a rookie. At times he made plays and at other times he was lost. The ability to play special teams is what makes or breaks him for the roster spot. Last game was a poor day for him in special teams. Steve Williams has to stay on the roster until the season starts, just so he can get put on the IR.

Special Teamers (3)
K Nick Novak
P Mike Scifres
LS Mike Windt

you dont think depalma has a chance to make it? he’s seemed solid/consistent throughout preseason. something the bolts don’t have in anybody else on the roster…

    • Ernie Padaon

He’s dropped the ball as well. He has a shot for that 5th receiver spot. Not sure he has done enough to take it though

    • Peter Thompson

After watching Willie take that hit, and then go get two td’s.. I am impressed. That, and he was on the PS last year.. he knows the veteran guys on the team. I’m rooting for him… DePalma seems like a slump-buster to me. Maybe we pick him up if ANOTHER receiver goes down later on.

  • Rob Base

What about practice squad list Ernie? No Depalma or Beltre?

    • Ernie Padaon

I like Beltre, his run defense isn’t so hot in my opinion though. Practice squad likely.

      • Peter Thompson

I agree… watch the waiver wire.. he may get PS.

  • Will

No use for MEACHEM??? He’s the best option we have at number two across from Floyd. Keenan will not make an impact as a rookie, he just won’t and brown will always be a slot receiver.

    • boltingindiego

when vincent brown played in his rookie year he was an outside wr. Not just a slot wr.

    • Ernie Padaon

I don’t even know if I should respond to you, because either way you are right and I am wrong.

  • Will

And tutu is way better than Willie and cromartie is better than Patrick

    • Purcell jones

I disagree Mike Willie hasn’t been given his fair shot like tutu has and remember hes been cut twice Mike hasn’t

  • arnie

What are you talking about? Green scored a TD on 2nd string defense. it doesn’t mean squat. He’s a 2nd stringer at best. this team wins six games……blah, blah, blah ( sarcasm)

  • Daryl Peek

Meachem is on the roster. No way they take that 5 million dollar cap hit for nothing.

    • Ernie Padaon

Either way it is for nothing… His roster spot is more valuable than him actually being on the roster

      • Daryl Peek

I disagree. He didn’t come with red flags like Gaither.

        • Ernie Padaon

To me, I don’t care if he isn’t making a mess in the locker room.. He can’t produce on the field. That is all that matters. It’s a wasted roster spot. He hasn’t shown that he can produce on the field.

          • Peter Thompson

Thank you.. if he produces in the next two weeks.. great. If not.. see ya! Paying someone big to not contribute is the definition of locker room cancer. Let’s hope he proves himself.

        • Peter Thompson

          What does that even mean?

    • arnie

I do’t believe it either. we’ll have to wait an see. However there was No way they take cap hit for gaither either.

      • Daryl Peek

Even more reason not to cut him. That’s too much dead cap money. And who knows? he just might produce. It’s not like he’s a disruptive attitude in the locker room.

        • arnie

True he could produce, the place to find that out is in pre-season. so far it’s not good. as for dead cap space, i see there will be other cuts, that save the Chargers cash. stay tuned.

        • Peter Thompson

The dead money is a dead issue if he is a dead player. Ask TT.. he’ll tell you.

  • Boltfan

Could we move to Starks to RT so Fluker could play RG and get a little time to develop his pass blocking skills?

    • Mz. Sarah

I think that Would be a bad idea moving Fluker. Yes there is room for improvement, but the vets screwed up more than he did. And he redeemed himself. Trust me when I say he is more motivated with his mental game than anyone else and he will do better. Being “built by Bama” is just that mindset some if guys need going in and he’s most def got that! #flukernation

      • Peter Thompson

        Roll tide!!!

    • Ernie Padaon

Possible… But he is being groomed now… Might as well ride it out

      • BoltFan

Could Starks go to RG instead of Clary?

Starks is a big guy and if we can get him on the line at the same time as Fluker and Dunlap, I think we could have something there.

That sack Clary gave up just ave me flashbacks! I figured Fluker could benefit having his rookie year at his natural position and then transition over next year. He’d have a whole year to adjust to the speed and learn what he could from Starks, a vet tackle (granted LT but still).

  • Bill Nichols

Can somebody explain to me what do they mean when they say “training camp is over”…..? We still have 2 weeks of preseason games left, how the hell can training camp be over? Is this a roster reduction / training to “practice” transition…..? Never knew I was a preseason dumb-ass…. Hep me understand… Bolt Up!!

    • C.j. Manriquez

they go into practice mode from now on bill…its a way for the team to get in an “in-season” practice routine. There is a Mike McCoy interview where he explains it is on the chargers website, posted on Sat I believe

  • Peter Thompson

Did anyone see Scaffe make that play in the endzone in the Seattle game? He almost got him a safety.

  • Peter Thompson

I’d give up a RB to make sure we had another DE or OLB. Baker & Fozzy need to fight it out.

  • Alter Ego

The DB situation is a concern. I hope we pounce on who ever the Seahawks release. They have a tremendous wealth of talent worthy of NFL roster spots. We should be prudent and improve our own roster there.

  • C.Steele

Good article Ernie. Mechem, I originally thought there is no way they get rid of him with the salary cap issues. However, in light of his performance (or lack there of) in the preseason I now see it as a very real possibility. Troutman, you really think they would cut him for schilling? Lastly, looking at that roster spells trouble for our special teams. The only real players in that area that stand out are Stuckey and Gachkar (sp?). #GoBolts!

    • Ernie Padaon

troutman is on the edge. his first game was not very good. Second game was better. needs to show up real quick though

  • Jeremiah Fluke

    Troutman over Schilling
