Chargers Head Coach Mike McCoy Emphasizes Family

The San Diego Chargers have a more family friendly atmosphere for the players this year. Coach Mike McCoy has put an extra emphasis on family. Here is Nick Hardwick writing a blog about the extra emphasis:

One thing I love about Coach McCoy is how much he emphasizes family.  It’s really nice to see my wife Jayme and son Hudson at the end of practices. It’s great that coach wants the families to be involved by stressing a family friendly environment.  The family tent is bigger than it’s been in the past and he’s asked guys to bring their families out here.  And it means so much after a hard day at practice to see my family for even 20 or 30 minutes.  It makes training camp easier to get through. – Chargers.com

I love that Coach McCoy has that extra emphasis for these guys. For a player like Philip Rivers and his million of kids, it must be great to have the family out there with him. It sure sounds like Nick Hardwick appreciates having the family on the field. I have seen pictures Eric Weddle running around with his kids on the field also.
For the family men on the roster, it must mean a lot to have everyone out there for them during practices. I am sure Philip is able to hang out a little longer since the fam is already out there with him and some of the guys can bond even more with the families out on the sideline. Give a point to Coach McCoy on this one.

He and telsco were great choice for becoming a real team environment. Big change IMO… The wolf did a great job consulting!

I have to love the consultation of Ron Wolfe! Spanos made a class act move in hiring Ron to help this organization find the right football minds to lead this team. Family is definitely important. Discipline, focus, and hard work doesn’t have to exclude the family. Family is a big part of all that.

That’s a good point that many (including me) have forgotten about. Wolfe must have given great advice in that hiring process.

Remember when we were all worrying that they were going too slow? No, Mr. Wolfe said they need to do their “due diligence” and go through the steps to find the right GM and then hire the coach.

They did take their time. However this ends up, at least the Spanos family gave it a go and did not slop some decision together.

Yes, Mr.Wolfe kept them on the right path,.

Nick Hardwicks quote should’ve started off, “one thing I like about coach McCoy is how he isn’t Norv Turner.”

Another thing I love about McCoy is that his neck doesn’t look like a men’s Gentiles
