Chargers Have To Consider Brandon Lloyd Now

Last week, when Danario Alexander went down with an ACL injury, I didn’t think that we needed to hit the panic button by signing a new receiver onto the roster. Now, if Malcom Floyd misses the year, then we have to consider a player like Brandon Lloyd. Lloyd has never been a locker room guy and he has jumped from locker room to locker room throughout his career, but he is talented. He is a talented receiver that has produced with Mike McCoy as the offensive coordinator.

Vincent Brown and Keenan Allen are going to be good receivers and they will be able to contribute, but there is no experience. A fair share of mistakes will be made. Eddie Royal has the experience, but he is fragile. Robert Meachem? He is Robert Meachem and hasn’t shown that he can produce in a Chargers uniform.

Brandon Lloyd has to be considered now. We need another body on the roster that can make plays. Brandon Lloyd has been a playmaker before. Might have to make San Diego Lloyd’s 7th team in his career.

Can we really say that Dan DePalma will be able to make plays on offense for us? Mike Willie? Luke Tasker? Richard Goodman? It might have to come down to that. We might have to rely on some of the unproven talent.

Anyone know what Ocho Cinco is doing?

Lets get rid of Goodman. Keep Tasker, Lets see how they all play this week before jumping the gun on Lloyd. There is a reason BB didn’t want him back

    • Stefanie Smith

      Good point.

    • boltingindiego

well he didn’t play well enough last year to warrant keeping him for about 8 or 9 mil a year.

      • http://www.BoltBeat.com/ Peter Thompson

        Yep.

      • arnie

neither did meachum. yet he’s still here…

  • FitzWilly

Cut S Wright before he takes Gates or Rivers down

  • ghost_

A lot of ppl are very high on DePalma seem to think of him as the next Wes Welker.

  • Alex Pitrofsky

You’ve gotta be kidding me. You’ve gotta be kidding me. You’ve gotta be kidding me. You’ve gotta be kidding me You’ve gotta be kidding me. You’ve gotta be kidding me. You’ve gotta be kidding me. You’ve gotta be kidding me.

    WHAT IS HAPPENING!?!?!?!

  • Dave

Use our Tight Ends as receivers more i.e., Gates and Green

  • Pels04

Time for 2-3 TE sets and running the rock!!!

  • Alex Pitrofsky

It’s time to bring in Ochocinco in. I don’t care what locker room problems he causes, we NEED him NOW

    • TheReturnOfMrBlanks

I don’t care how much he cusses, he vocal but is very loyal. I follow him on facebook he’s in great shape actually gained like 5lbs of lean mass. I’d love to see him here.

  • tubbs45

Damn Wright, do it during the game, not practice…. fuck…. Llyod would stretch the field, but would he divide the club house?

    • Stefanie Smith

I bet Wright’s teammates are yelling at him or have questions. Would be different and not so weird, if he hadn’t already taken down Alexander.

  • veazy

I’m still hoping Tutu gets signed.

Look.. I know I’m probably not Going to get a ton of likes on this.. BUT MEACHUMP HAS TO STEP UP! I know that goes against the fabric of the universe, but after the year he had last year, the game he had last week, the injury to Alexander, and now Malcolm Floyd… he HAS to step up! There’s nothing but inexperience behind him! Experience may not count for a lot with him.. But, it counts for something. After that article Acee just wrote about him.. The report about him being broke down… And that report of how his wife is telling him to stop feeling sorry for himself.. The motivation to prove everyone wrong must be BOILING in his head! That would make me pissed! Like MikeTyson Punch Out where his eyes flash reed, and he destroys you kind of mad! It’s like everything is leading up to motivating this guy to perform better.. the fact that it’s bad motivation is irrelevant. Put him on a side field for the rest of the week alone with PR, get their timing on POINT, and get this guy in as you’re #1 receiver in Chicago, and hope that gives him the confidence he needs to live up to his duty. I would have Meachem in my office TODAY, if I was McCoy.. And it would be the kind of meeting where I didn’t say anything for 60 seconds after he sat down… I would just sit there thinking for a minute, while he sat there. Then I would tell him what’s going to happen.

    • boltingindiego

      lets hope he does man.

      • http://www.BoltBeat.com/ Peter Thompson

I’m done hoping.. Just get the eff out there and do it! For the love of God! They should hire me to talk to him. I would wear my Ox Blood Docs to the meeting, so I knew he got the point when I buried my foot in his ass!

    • Alex Pitrofsky

That gave me butterflies. This is a terrible situation and I feel like crap right now but that was a darn good comment that really opened my eyes to this situation

      • http://www.BoltBeat.com/ Peter Thompson

Have you ever seen that movie full metal jacket? I would be on his ass like Private Pile, until he shot me in the bathroom! If you haven’t… Google it… That’s how hard.

    • Rob Base

Will the Real Robert Meachem please stand up..please stand up..

    • joerockt

The #1 & #2 receivers are down, and you’re expecting Mechump to just simply step up. I don’t even know where to start with this, so I won’t. They’re on the phone with Lloyd so it should be moot in the next few days.

      • http://www.BoltBeat.com/ Peter Thompson

        Works for me.

      • arnie

Not gonna happen. McCoy, ” we’re going play with what we have..”

        fast forward to 2:24

        • http://www.BoltBeat.com/ Peter Thompson

I am starting to develop a man-crush on Mike McCoy .We have been waiting for this kind of attitude for SO LONG. Can you imagine what that interview would have been like with Norv? Our prayers have been answered, Arnie!

          • arnie

I’m with you Pete. Don’t get me wrong, i love talking football and all the possibilities. All i’m sayin is, we either trust T&M to know what they’re doing, or we don’t. We’re still suffering from the FA mess from last season, and we will still feel it next season. unlike norv, it’s time to turn to the players on the roster, Next Man Up!

    • John Alton

The team needs to consider signing this guy. If they lose one more receiver its big trouble for the offense. We know if Rivers is protected, it does not matter who Rivers is throwing to, he threw for 4700 yards in 2010 with a group of nobodies, but he still needs veterans, not a crew of chumps and rookies.

      • http://www.BoltBeat.com/ Peter Thompson

I think people are missing my point. I think they should do both. As much as I agree with signing a new receiver.. which I do think they should do.. I never said they shouldn’t…McCoy is making a pretty big paycheck too. It’s his job to get the most out of the players e have on this roster. Especially when we are paying that much for a receiver like Meachem, and cutting him is cap suicide. It just seems like Norv… and now the new regime are content with sticking this guy in the back of the lineup, and benching him. He may be a useless dud.. I get it. But, I haven’t heard any reports about how they are going out of their way to fix Meachem, like they ate trying to fix Rivers. I think they need to find a way to make the guys on the roster that we have preform better. If not, at least we can all see that an effort was made, and cutting him was the final option. I honestly haven’t seen that effort. If he was Gaither and just didn’t want to play, I would understand. But, Meachem is healthy, and does want to play.

    • rickochey

Depression is caused by concussions. Just saying.

  • Steve

I’d rather see DePalma or tasked than to bring in a bad locker room guy.

  • TheReturnOfMrBlanks

I have 3 things I was thinking today:

    1. Would it be possible to keep Fozzy and make Woodhead RB #2 and WR #4? I do that on madden to get him more catches he can do part time slot guy.

    2. I was thinking if any of our next most likely injury candidates were to get hurt we would be toast if Matthews or Gates goes down.

    3. I just updated my rosters on Madden and I refuse to kill off the entire team with all these injuries lol I’m going to live in fantasy land where all our guys are ok.

    • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

i could see them move Woodhead out wide.

  • Nick in PB

Guys, I was there. At first I thought it was Laderius Green until I saw him get on the cart. I was chatting with Anthony Miller when it happened. I was looking right at Malcom. He went up and came down funny. Then stayed down. After a few minutes, everyone came running over. At this point, I still thought it was Laderius. I think he went up with Gilchrest but I could be wrong. It might have been Wright. Coming into this season, we all thought our receiving core was the strength of the team. When Denario went down, we dropped a notch but to lose our number 2 one week later… well sh*t! This sucks. He went off on a cart!!! Even Denario was on the sidelines with ice. Hope for the best but expect the worst. After camp, the coach had all the WR doing drills. Don’t know what that was all about but it was after practice.

    • rickochey

How is Anthony Miller? What is he up to? What does he think about the Bolts this year?

  • Stefanie Smith

If we can’t even get through camp without annihilating ourselves, then I don’t know what to say.

  • Gunnar Martin

I think we just need to incorporate more Woodhead and Ladarius Green in our offensive packages. It wouldn’t solve everything, including who our No. 1 receiver would be, but I think it would help quite a bit. As it is right now, we’re basically screwed anyways, so why not?

    • CALiFORNiAkiD

Even though Floyd isn’t as badly injured as we all thought.

      Good Idea.

      • Gunnar Martin

It really would work better with M80 in there anyways. SOOO happy he’s not out for the year.

  • JoseSD

Move Gilchrist back to CB and Wright to strong safety looks like we finally have that enforcer at safety that’s been missing since Rodney Harrison was let go

  • Daryl Peek

    UTKevinAcee ‏@UTKevinAcee4m
“@UTgehlken: Initial MRI results show a sprain for Malcom Floyd. More testing coming Tuesday.” >Very good. Relative to feared ACL tear.

  • arnie

Time to look at new options, not “have to look at lloyd”, just look at options. That would shock everyone if they did Pick up Chad Johnson Ernie.

    • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

      it would be pretty crazy

      • arnie

he’s healthy. wants to play. can make plays and would come cheap.
