Anyone else think this is what CBJ was thinking the whole game?

  • Adam

Whitehurst and our 3rd team D lost us the game

  • Gunnar Martin

Looks like Sorensen earned the MVP honors for us tonight. He sure looked sharp, especially for a rookie. Time to cut CBJ!!!

  • JoseSD

Starters looked really good, Whitehurst sucks can we just say Sorensen is the new #2 ? Geathers was a monster at NT did you see when he knocked the center back a few feet right off the snap? Fozzy didn’t impress me but that might have been the O line. Harris is as bad a #2 RT as he was at LT. Don’t know whether to be impressed or worried that Cattouse was making so many tackles. And Dunlap looked good at LT now that he knows his QB is gonna stay in the pocket

  • Daryl Peek

Very concerned with team depth! The second and third team was HORRIBLE!! We just saw the worth of a mobile QB. The Seachickens are stacked at QB.

    • Sergio Quintero

The charger could definitely use in order, a veteran corner, an extra pass rusher, and an extra Defensive End, with some starting experience would really help.

      • Daryl Peek

Steve Williams looked good. It was just hard to evaluate the rest of the game because the second and third teams looked so lethargic. The special teams took me back to the 2010 nightmare on Crosby Street!

        • Sergio Quintero

Steve Williams really impressed me, his lack of height was a non factor, the guy can really shadow people. But corners 5-6-7, are not very good at this point.

          • Daryl Peek

Sean Cattouse was fairly impressive also.

          • Sergio Quintero

He played better than the more hyped Jaleel Addae, but it was hard to follow as the third string front 7 was completely plowed.

          • Daryl Peek

The fact that we are talking secondary says it all lol

          • Pels04

He stood out to me too. Same as last year. Addae looked decent against the run, plays pretty aggressive

      • Nick in PB

That very true Sergio. I don’t know that we’ll find a pass rusher this late in the game but we sure could get a veteran DB and DE when cuts start to happen. Unfortunately, veterans that start getting cut in the preseason have usually been beat out by a rookie. They could still be better than what we have.

  • Sergio Quintero

I already posted this message on the game thread, but the discussion has moved here, it seemed more appropriate to put it here:

    Positive Spin:
First team offense looked really good, pass blocking was okay, run blocking was really pushing people back. Mathews looked quicker and faster than last year. Rivers was getting the ball out quickly and accurately, and was stepping up instead of going to the sideline.

First team defense: Stopped Russell Wilson’s 2 drives. With Freeney, Liuget & Reyes causing havoc. Shareece Wright really flashed at corner.

Steve Williams: He may be small but the guy can really play.

Brad Sorensen: Showed accuracy, pocket presence and poise

    Negative Spin:
2nd and 3er team Oline got owned, and basically were a sieve.

Whitehurst is awful, cue the Benny Hill music.

3rd team DLine was absolutely plowed.

3rd team corners looked clueless, Josh Johnson had as bad a game as I have seen a corner have.

The final 6-8 defensive players that make this roster are not very good at this point, TT time to get some veterans with spot starting ability.

    • Daryl Peek

I loved the commitment to the run game I saw. The first team O shredded the number one D from last season.

      • http://www.BoltBeat.com/ Peter Thompson

I thought it was impressive that we had the ball for 2/3 of the first half… even if CBJ couldn’t close the deal.. at all.

      • Sergio Quintero

I wanted to see the young RB push Ronnie Brown, Fozzie had his moments, but to be honest not enough to push Ronnie off this roster in any way.

        • Gunnar Martin

I think that could change if he got some reps with the 1s. That O-line he was running behind SUCKED. He did get lots of carries as it is, so that could be a sign that they have confidence in him.

          • Sergio Quintero

You are right no way to compare RB as the 2nd and in particular 3er string Oline were awful. I have no idea of what to think of Michael Hill, as there always appeared to be defensive players getting penetration behind the line of scrimmage around him.

  • Rob Base

Rivers and starters looked good alond with the starters on D but where was Te’o? The 3rd string D looked weak and lost. Clip board sucked ass! What was Meacum doing.. Getting warmed up? Special teams need a lot of work Goodman isn’t looking that good. I like the way Fozzy bear played along with DePalma. Sorensen looked good also.nice to see Green and Tasker making some plays. Not impressed yet with Hill. I think that we should get another veteran CB and maybe a RB. McCoy needs to make some serious tweaks for next week.

  • Pels04

Serg pretty much has got it covered. I will add that Fluker is a beast and wide as a friggin VW. Love seeing him blow up the right side of the line and creating huge lanes. He also plays a little chippy which is good. You can tell he is fired up just being in the game. Overall i say it was a good first outing for our first teamers on both sides of the ball. Good to see the defense getting stops against a pretty explosive offense. No injuries other than Fozzy but it didnt look too serious.
Side note, did anyone see McCoy’s one handed grab? Even that was pretty impressive ha

    • Sergio Quintero

Clary at guard worked, the combo with Fluker will probably make the chargers a right side dominant running team.

      • Pels04

Ya i agree. Wouldve been nice to see Fozzy get some reps with the starting OL

  • Daryl Peek

In other news SP95 scored a touchdown for the Donkeys. I gotta admit, I wish we would have kept either him or Barnes.

  • Cgoodness13

Is it sad or awesome that our headcoach is a better receiver that Meachem?

    • Gunnar Martin

Darn AWESOME. I’d like to see Norv even try to compete with that.

  • http://www.BoltBeat.com/ Peter Thompson

That Ryan Mathews leap & run was awesome! So was the Gates catch for 20+, the Royal stiff arm (even if it was a somewhat busted reverse), the Left sidestuff, held up (hooray), Philip looked comfy, and stepped in.. even got mobile, Stevie Williams covered nicely on the D, Patrick & Stucky hawked for an incompletion, Tourek had a good stuff, Sorensen to Green for the TD, Cattouse played pretty well but was working behind nothing, DePalma and Tasker got their hands dirty, Fozzy was auight.. as long as he plays the numbers he might average out, NONE of the returners (who was different every kick) wowed, the special teams makes me miss Bisacia, and what the heck are we going to do about this depth? Not to mention Dombrowski needs to go, Josh Johnson needs to get off the field, CBJ is god awful & hopefully gone, Troutman wasn’t great & had multiple penalties, Molk was alright, but got pushed around some… yeah. There’s some signings to make, and some film for the coaches to watch.

    • Sergio Quintero

Forgot about Troutmann he was pretty awful too. I’m telling myself the special teams was just a bad day. No way 2010 could repeat itself right??

    • http://www.standupforkids.org blackroseMD1

I’d mention Freeney too. For a guy who was supposed to be on his last legs, he was pushing the Hawks RT into Wilson more than once, without even using the spin move. Him and Reyes shined tonight.

  • Lee

Anyone else notice teo was hardly out there on 3rd downs and we had some strange hybrid defense?

  • CALiFORNiAkiD

Derek Cox and Shareece Wright impressed.
Was Manti on the field? He looked invisible.

I can already tell the D-Line is going to wreck havoc on Qbs
They had Russell Wilson running, not because he wanted to, but because he had to.

Rivers looked like the old Rivers…5/6 48 yards..Against the best secondary in the NFL. I believe Whisenhunt and McCoy that Rivers will be a 70% passer.

Mathews looked sharp. He is the key to our success he has to stay healthy.
The O-Line can definitely run block that’s for sure. King Dunlap looked as advertised.

    • Sergio Quintero

The King truly outplayed Starks, I know Starks has the pedigree, but my eyes saw Dunlap as the better player as of right now.

      • CALiFORNiAkiD

No way Starks starts over Dunlap.
Call me crazy but it’s not even close.

        • Nick in PB

I was watching Starks play. I don’t think it was as bad as it looked. The guy playing next to him looked awful and I think he was mindful of that. He did look a little slow though.

    • Daryl Peek

If the Hogs get to churning the offense will be straight! Remember Wisenhunt is from the Schottenheimer/Cowher coaching tree. Martyball attitude 2.0!

  • Daryl Peek

If you listen to every Mccoy interview and couple it with what we saw from Wisenhunt and
the first team tonight, this is exactly what you saw… http://espn.go.com/video/clip?id=9319634

  • EUGENIO RODRIGUEZ

Sorensen has to be our backup QB!!!
