Chargers vs Seahawks: Players to Watch

First action of the season today. Time to see what the kids can bring to the field. Here are some of the players that we should keep an eye on during the game:

Manti Te’o

Jul 26, 2013; San Diego, CA, USA; San Diego Chargers tight end Antonio Gates (85) avoids a tackle by linebacker Manti Te

Time for the rookie to get on the field for the first time since that whole incident that will go without name. Look forward to seeing how the kid does in the middle of the defense and how quick he is able to read plays. He will have one tough runningback to bring down in Marshawn Lynch.

Johnny Patrick

Patrick has been getting a lot of praise in the secondary. Time for us to see what he has on the field now.

Tourek Williams

Williams will likely see a lot of playing time today. Hopefully we see some pressures coming from his direction. Want to see how myuch the kid has developed over training camp.

D.J. Fluker

The number 1 draft pick gets his first shot to pancake some people. We will see how that pass protection is today.

Jeromey Clary

That move to right guard has been talked about a lot. Time to see how he does against real opponents now.

Keenan Allen

This is his opportunity to steal reps in practice and work toward getting a starting job. Can’t wait to see him get the ball in his hands.

Knock on wood. We have a nice bunch of rookies.. unlike what the Saints have–as in Kenny Vaccaro. Play hard, but play as a team. And don’t EVER hurt one of your fellow players because you are trying to show off.

    • TheReturnOfMrBlanks

      What did Vaccaro do?

      • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

he hits hard in practice and causes fights…. (and i still wish we selected him)

      • Stefanie Smith

He got in a fight with Jimmy Graham and Pierre Thomas and knocked out another of HIS own team with a torn ACL. I don’t care how good this goof ball is or thinks he is. He needs to know he is injuring HIS own teammates to show how great he is. This is a red flag. Watch this fool. Camp hasn’t been going on that long and he is causing problems for his own team.

This is not a me game… they win as a team.

    • Gunnar Martin

That doesn’t mean Vaccaro isn’t gonna be good…

  • TheReturnOfMrBlanks

That’s a good list Ernie, I’m looking forward to seeing the O-line and if they can create some gaps for the RB’s to run through. Seahawks have a bunch of pass rushers even in their second unit, I wouldn’t be shocked if they blitz like crazy.

Besides watching the obvious first year players and OL im going to be paying extra attention to the secondary. The duo of Cox & Wright. Gilchrist at safety and everyone behind them. Also, im sure McCoy is going to be conservative in his play calling but im interested to see if we will see a major difference or not. There is so much to look at i cant wait to watch this game a half dozen times!

  • Sergio Quintero

Larry English, he’s going to get playing time this year, lets see if he can dominate against 2-3 stringers, if he’s invisible bad sign when the level of competition rises.

Nose Tackle play, is Cam Thomas being a beast?, do the chargers have something in Geathers/Jerideau?

Young RB’s (Whitaker, Baker, Hill) can any of these guys shine and take the Jackie Battle role, as the backup RB in 1-2 down/Goaline situations??

    • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

definitely some good players to keep our eyes on

I want to see how corners 4-5-6 play, to see if all the worry about lack of depth is warranted. See if TT should be on the phone looking veteran help, or the kids can actually play.

I keep hearing good things about Jaleel Addae I want to see if he can truly play.

  • Adam

I wanna see Larry English and Robert meachum!
