Chargers Linebackers Ranking in the Top 10 of AFC West

May 10, 2013; San Diego, CA, USA; San Diego Chargers linebacker Manti Te

I must have missed going through Bill Williamson’s list of top linebackers in the AFC West a week ago. I ran across the list again today, so I figured I would bring it up for discussion.

The Chargers top ranking linebacker on the list is Donald Butler, ranked at number 5. He is listed behind Von Miller, Tamba Hali, Justin Houston and Derrick Johnson. That is fair, but I think that he can climb higher on this list by the end of the season. The biggest key for him is health.

Ranked right behind him at number 6 is the new Charger Dwight Freeney. He is one of the best of all time, but he slides down the list because of age and he wasn’t able to produce good numbers last season. He will be counted on big time this year.

Jarret Johnson is ranked in at number 8 and Manti Te’o rounds out the top 10. I can see Te’o climbing up the ladder on this list in the future.

Denver Broncos LB Shaun Phillips is ranked lower than all the current Chargers, but he has that million dollars and is on the good side now.

I hope butler and te’o become really close friends and develop a strong chemistry on the field. I think that has a lot to do with their success together.

Agree. Hope that is the middle of our defense for a long long time
