Shout Out to the Good Guys In The League

Jun 25, 2013; Berea, OH, USA; San Diego Chargers rookie Manti Te

Everyone and their mutha is talking about Aaron Hernendez and those shenanigans today. Who knows what it going to happen with him, but that is one sketchy situation for the dude.

This makes me so much more appreciative of having a player like Philip Rivers on our squad. It is nice to have good model citizens on the roster. We don’t have a lot of players on the roster that are going to cause a lot of noise off of the field. We used to have those guys on the roster, but we seemed to clean it up.

Having players like Philip and Eric Weddle as leaders on the team helps a ton. There are a ton of guys on the roster and around the league that spend their time helping around the community and donate time and money to different organizations.

In the last couple of days, the Chargers rookies spent some time hanging with youngsters. I know a lot of them are events that they have to  do, but we just need to give a little more attention to things like that.

Shout out to the model citizens around the league. They deserve more attention than the idiots around the league.

Remember, no matter how loud the idiots are, the good people do still outnumber them.

      Very Nice.

I agree… good post Russ! Good article Ernie!

  • tubbs45

Kudos, on a nice write up… I like where we are heading!

  • Stefanie Smith

It’s okay that they have to do it. At least they are then exposed to situations where if they have a heart–then they can help. They have to realize that so many love them—especially kids.. and they have to remember to stay humble and treat those kids with respect. If you have to force them to participate in charitable type activities–fine with me. Better they do that all day and go home exhausted doing something good for another person rather than something negative.

  • Stefanie Smith

I really didn’t (maybe still feel this way) like T’eo, but you see him with those kids and you can tell–he is giving it his all. Those kids have 100% of his attention. And he looks like he is happy to be where he is. Maybe we are seeing another side of him. I don’t know.

i think this may be the first time you are seeing it. i really have thought he was a good dude, but got caught in some bad circumstance that he couldn’t help. He was looking for the attention, people just wanted to find dirt with him and dug as much as they could.

    Hey Ernie–

Well said; maybe you could also highlight some of the Chargers specifically or some of the people positively affected by their efforts.

The Telesco/McCoy crew has my family and I feeling like we’re part of a professional organization for the first time in a long time and journalists taking time to show us the athletes as people doing good things will only further heighten the excitement for our team and what we now stand for.

Go Bolts and Go Good People!

Antonio Gates was recently out at a charity fundraiser for Foster Kids (which is one of my favorite causes) not too long ago. Ernie did a write up on that. He got in a dunk tank, and let people dunk him all day… hahaha! They raised some money for the cause, and gave away some cell phones. I know that’s small, and you were talking about an entire article, but that really made me smile = )

      • sdteacher2

That kind of stuff is awesome to hear! How cool would it be to say you dunked Antonio Gates when you were 10 years old?!

Honestly, I’d just like to see more stuff that highlights the positive all the time and not just after some crazy incident.

The athletes are so lucky to make as much money as they do and it’s nice to see them act in a way that shows they understand that.

Then again, I guess the players have to choose to good things like Gates, so that journalists can have the opportunity to write about it.

This article was definitely a good first step!

    Ain’t that the truth ^

Hate to ruin the feel-good mood, but apparently ANOTHER NFLer attempted murder the other day too. Some rookie linebacker on the Browns. What the heck is going on?!!

    • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

yea. an undrafted rookie with the Browns

      • tubbs45

        WTH!

Get ready for a “concussions made me do it@ defense…

Random & frequent surprise HGH testing, anybody?

  • http://www.BoltBeat.com/ Peter Thompson

I was actually going to write a similar article… you are 100% right, Ernie. When I see all the crap that The Patriots have going on, it makes me feel good about our team. Tom Brady is a smarmy “poor sport” dooshbag who got his girlfriend pregnant, dumped her, and married a supermodel two minutes later. Gronkowski is always having surgery, after being seen with his shirt off at some club acting drunkenly wild. Then Wes Welker’s wife popped off on her facebook saying that Ray Lewis is a fraud. Then Wes, Tom, and the Patriots have that high school type “break-up”, and Welker goes to the Broncos. I don’t know how they kept a lid on Ochocinco while he was there.. that dude fell apart immediately after leaving New England!!! Then this Hernandez stuff… What a hot mess!

    • tubbs45

Scooped by EP… Shady man, just shady

      • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

        my bad. ha

        • http://www.BoltBeat.com/ Peter Thompson

I should have moved more quickly. It’s been on my story-board since the Hernandez, and PACman stories broke. You snooze you lose, right?

    • Adam

I can’t stand the Pats man. Tom Brady is my least favorite player in the league. The media even has to cover his stupid hair styles. And then I remember listening to espn right before the Payriots vs the bronco when Tebow got crushed. The analysts were saying that Brady was getting all butt-hurt cause he’s the better QB but the photographers and press was swamping tebow and not him. Your getting paid millions of dollars to play a game…SHUT UP AND DO YOUR JOB CRY-BRADY!

      • Adam

Plus whenever he loses big games, him and Beli-cheat never talks to the presses…they just sulk off the field.

  • Mark York

    Right-on Ernie!

  • Blue&gold_blood

What a idiot . If I had everything he had . I would stay clean and enjoy it .

    • http://www.BoltBeat.com/ Peter Thompson

I agree. Having unlicensed guns, obstructing justice, and dumping the body of a murder victim I shot execution style a mile from my house would be pretty low on the “to do” list.
