How WR Dan DePalma Can Make The San Diego Chargers Roster

Dan DePalma was brought on by the San Diego Chargers through free agency this offseason. DePalma hasn’t had the opportunity to perform on the big stage yet, but he has been a practice squad star. As a New York Giant, his teammates said that he was one of the toughest receivers to cover.

How can DePalma crack the San Diego Chargers roster? The best way to do it is kicking Eddie Royal out as the return specialist on the roster.

The top 5 receiver spots are locked in. Malcom Floyd, Danario Alexander, Keenan Allen, Vincent Brown and Robert Meachem have those spots locked down. I know a ton of people don’t like Meachem, but his salary is the reason why he will make the roster.

It them comes down to Eddie Royal and Dan DePalma. Most teams are not going to hold 6 receivers on the roster, but will make an exception for a specialist. Kassim Osgood was often the 6th receiver on the roster. Dan DePalma will need to excel in that role.

Once preseason starts up, through training camp, DePalma will need to be lightning in a bottle. I am sure he is sick and tired of being a top practice squad guy. It’s time for him to make the big squad and make things happen.

I think DePalma would fit the Chargers offense well. He doesn’t have the size of the other receivers on the roster, but he is quick and could do well in the quick passing game. That battle for the specialists role could come down to those two and I think DePalma will have a decent shot at winning it.

I know this is a charger dedicated page, but can we discuss Aaron Hernandez’s situation? That shits too crazy to not discuss on here.

    • Ernie Padaon

hahaha. been talking about it a ton on NFL Spin Zone… BUT that is some crazy stuff. Do you think he did it?

      • PakMaN

Dude he totally incriminated himself by destroying his security system/cell phone, and hiring a cleaning crew on monday.

What gets me is HOW in the hell do you not hire someone to do this for you? Why would you do it yourself? You could literally pay any Coyote from Mexico to come here and do it for like $10k.

        • PakMaN

Or.. not do it at all lol

          • Ernie Padaon

            hahahaha. well that. haha

        • Pels04

Ya he did. Hes screwed. If he did it, it had to been out of rage. It just seems like there is too much stuff that points to him for it to be planned. Or hes just really stupid

          • Stefanie Smith

The new criminal defense = Roid Rage And I am not kidding or joking about it. More and more of this is coming up with athletes and others who have been using this stuff for awhile. Not everyone–but it is increasing. That is why there is already a nickname for it – i.e. Roid rage.

          • Pels04

Roid rage was exactly what i was thinking

        • Adam

I’m in shock about it…all fingers point to him at this point….man no gronk, no welker, and now possibly no Hernandez…belicheat must be throwing a fit

      • tubbs45

I mean why rent a car in your own hood?

        • Peter Thompson

SERIOUSLY!!!!! When was planning my… WHOA… almost screwed up there.

          Nevermind ; )

    • tubbs45

There were so many red flags on the dude coming out of Florida, failed drug tests, character issues, etc… Even Bill couldn’t keep him clean…

    • JoseSD

It really does take 3+ years to evaluate a draft, at first it seemed like the Pats struck gold with the duo of Gronkowski and Hernandez at TE,, but now Gronk can’t stay healthy with 4 forearm surgeries, a broken ankle and multiple back injuries and Hernandez could possibly go down as the next OJ Simpson, looks like Welker left at the right time

      • Peter Thompson

I hope he dragged some of that bad Juju to Denver.

    • Bill Nichols

That dude is toast, and he is going to be someones biatch in a Boston prison very soon. I swear this guy is a total moron, his wifes, sisters, boyfriend, for god sake. Why even get involved, unless you are a moron, that wants to be a thug during the off-season. Yep, that’s it, he is a wanna be stupid gangster, should’ve started a youth group, or some kind of foundation, rather then play stupid, gangster in the off season to look like a big shot to a few trolls. Oh good for you Patriots, at least we won’t have to worry about you guys during our play off run… Bolt Up!!

  • tubbs45

DePalma needs to be a special teams grinder… opportunity pops up with (hopefully not) injuries.

  • Cgoodness13

What I don’t understand is why hasn’t he had the opportunity in NY? Did Eli’s giant dolphin forehead make it to difficult to see a tiny WR? If K.Allen shows potential in the slot and returning kicks (I’m sure Woodhead could probably return kicks also) then cut royal.

  • Cgoodness13

BTW good job TT for seeing this guys talent.

  • Alter Ego

    AJ let Wes Welker go.
    AJ let Darren Sproles go
    SD let AJ go
    DePalma makes Bolt roster

  • Ioane

Depalma has to really turn heads for him to beat out Royal. Royal has experience and can be very dangerous. Don’t see it happening, if it does, I hope it won’t turn out to be another Brian Walters situation.

  • Nick in PB

The only way DePalma beats out someone for a roster spot is if someone get’s injured. That’s a distinct possibility! If that does happen, we will thank TT for bringing him in.

  • C.Steele

I’m game! Royal was very underwhelming. Throw DePalma in the mix and let the best receiver/returner win! #GoBolts

  • arnie

Here’s an easier solution, take royal’s trainer table away, and hide meachum bank card. these seem to be the only things they knew how to use.

    • Ernie Padaon

  • miketuck

I’ll be rooting for him as I’m not sold on Royal.
