Donald Butler: Most Underrated San Diego Chargers Player?

Just posted Pete Prisco’s most overrated San Diego Chargers player is Antonio Gates. Did you see who the most underrated Chargers player is?

Donald Butler

Butler is our stud in the middle of the defense and he brings the hammer. He is always around the football and he makes things happen.

This could be the year that he finally gets the recognition for being a top middle linebacker. He can push for a spot on the Pro Bowl and get the attention from fans across the NFL.

Would Butler be your choice for most underrated Chargers player?

For me, I would vote Eric Weddle as the most underrated player.

Sure he has been to the Pro Bowl in the past and people know him, but I still don’t think he gets the respect that he should. He didn’t even get voted to the Pro Bowl last season.

I honestly think he is the best safety in the league, but he can’t even get recognition in the popularity contest that is the Pro Bowl. What is that?

Anyone else bummed Reyes wasn’t a top 5 candidte for Defensive Rookie of the year?

Butler played well, but DX gets my vote. He is the most underrated, under payed receiver in the league IMO. Not to mention he was basically our offense last season. If he plays anything like last year this upcoming season, he deserves a decent contract.

knee concerns is why hes underpaid.

      • PakMaN

I don’t believe in that injury prone players. Because if thats the case up until last year nobody would really label RM an injury prone player, but now everyone is asking if hes made of glass. And if he is under payed only due to knee injuries then wtf were we thinking paying someone like Cox who has never played a full season in his life?

dx has had 5 knee surgeries 3 in college, 1 after the senior bowl and his rookie year. All on his left knee. Which is why he went undrafted and why the rams cut him.RM knock was that he has always missed some games. But look at last year 1st run play he breaks his collarbone then later he breaks his other collarbone.

I’m with you, Ernie… it’s Weddle. Butler is a close second… maybe even Liuget.

Liuget is a good selection for sure

Butler is an emerging monster. The SD run defense was one of the NFLs best last year. Butler is our gang leader – he will earn acknowledgement this year. He isn’t the most underrated though. That belongs to Cam Thomas – he is our starting NT. McCoy, Pagano and TT believe in him so much that they didn’t draft any competition. He has to be a huge bull that no one knows about to be chosen to spearhead our attack. So its Thomas or bust – I believe we roll this year so Thomas will be a shock to the league.

Hopefully cam plays well but hes not underated at this moment. hes an unknown because hes never been starter b4 but hopefully hes becomes great and gamble the pays off.

      • Alter Ego

I get the logic, no issue with it. This is Cam’s 3rd yr – 5th round choice – led all lineman in sacks 2011 and was 2nd with tackles for a loss after starting two games.
He has been essentially anointed mad man in the middle on what I expect to be a top 10 or better defense this year. I don’t think he is a surprise around Charger camp as he is going to be to the rest of the league. So he gets my vote. I would also go with Brown as my next in. I think folks know Butler is a bad ass.

Weddle, butler, liuget, Reyes… That’s my order of the under appreciated!

  • Rob Base

Weddle and Butler for sure and Too Liuget to quit doesn’t get enough recognition either.

Butler is underrated. But I think thats a good thing. Hes gonna come out swinging n knocking heads til he gets noticed! Weddle is also underrated, but lately hes been getting a little more attention ever since he started being the ball hawk that he is!

Let’s face it, we are out west and the east coast biased media just doesn’t pay attention to what’s happening out here unless you’ve been hyped up for a while. The past couple of seasons, being down years, people have overlooked the talented players we have. We have a bunch of underrated guys! Butler for sure. I think him and Liuget get their props this year. I like Pauls choice in Thomas, however, until he’s a full time starter and kills that position, it’s hard to even call him “rated” at this point. I certainly hope he’s one of the underrated guys we are talking about next year!

That’s a tough call, but I think I’m going to go with weddle. I’m also going to through some fire on this and through the race card on it. The fact that he plays DB (a role that’s predominantly African American) he needs to go above and beyond in the flashy department to get noticed. That’s not his personality! Now, couple that with the fact he has been on a mediocre West Coast team the past 3 seasons, the media coverage has been nascent. least we forget, it took the national Media 3 season to take notice of LT! As for Butler, there is no question he’s underrated. However, like with Weddle, it’s hard to get noticed on a under performing West Coast team. And, this being his 3rd season (first lost to injury) I believe he will get his due this year. #GoBolts!

I’d go with Liuget. Made a huge jump last year. He’s my favorite defensive player right now.
