Chargers Closing in on Deal With Dwight Freeney

The San Diego Chargers are closing in on a deal with Dwight Freeney. Freeney may have left town without a deal, but Tom Telesco did not let him go far. Telesco was with him in Indy and they are working to close this thing out, according to Jason LaCanfora.

The deal is still not done and we have seen these things fall apart before, but it sure is looking good. We would have to see the numbers, but adding a player like Dwight Freeney onto the roster always is a good thing. The defense will get an instant boost in production.

Last season, the Chargers defense still struggled to get off of the field on 3rd down and part of that was because of the pack of pressure on the quarterback. Freeney will instantly help in that category. Freeney finished last season with 5 sacks and 34 hurries.

The Chargers will likely create a hybrid 3-4 defense to get the most out of Freeney. Freeney could be the Leo/Elephant defensive end and in the system, but we will get into that more if we make this deal. Things are heating up!
