Junior College Wide Receiver Decided Not To Sign With Chargers

One of the undrafted free agent prospects (Courtney Gardner) that I was looking forward to seeing on the field will not be part of the rookie training camp coming up on Thursday and decided not to sign his deal with the San Diego Chargers for personal reasons. He may have looked at the logjam in San Diego at the receiver position and wondered why he chose to the Chargers.

Gardner was a junior college star that was having academic problems in juco and decided to declare for the draft instead of heading to college at Oklahoma because of his academic issues. He was a man among boys in juco, but his best chance making the squad would have been on the practice team.

So much for seeing the kid get a chance here. It looked like he had potential to be a contributor in the future. I still wouldn’t be surprised to see him catch on with someone else this offseason.

Log Jam is correct! Hopefully the kid finds a place to land outside of the AFC West. I had read a piece questioning his mental state and ability to handle the nfl playbook and routes… Good Luck kid

Damn that sucks, he is going to be good. Did he sign somewhere that is more in need of WR’s? The Jets and Bills and Jags would be a good place for him. I wonder if he just really didn’t know we have such a bad ass group of receivers and when he looked into it he backed out?

LOL, he was struggling with academics at a junior college? He would struggle with a NFL offense then.

Actually, wonder if anyone saw this coming. Hmmm. Not a big deal. Better to know now than later.

Red flags don’t just disappear. They have to be fixed.

He looked like a better arena player anyways :/

    Smart move on his part.

The young man probably read between the lines of the contract, were it said, “Camp Body” on it.
