Bryant McKinnie Punks The Chargers And Signs Deal With Baltimore

Bryant McKinnie used us to get the deal he wanted with the Baltimore Ravens. He signed a 2-year deal to stay with Baltimore. We wined and dined him and ended up getting the shaft.

There were some question marks with bringing him over and now we won’t have to deal with those issues. The issue we have to deal with is our missing left tackle.

King Dunlap? Is that really what we want to have starting on the left side protecting the butt side of Philip Rivers?

Max Starks. Give him a buzz! Otherwise, we might want to start thinking about making a trade for a left tackle.

Our left tackle situations leaves something to be desired and I hope that Tom Telesco is not satisfied with the mess we have there. We had the same mess last season when Jared Gaither had a whole body cramp, but we did nothing but let an undrafted free agent start on the left side the whole time.

NOT AWESOME!

We better get this thing sorted out.

    Bitch ass mofo…..

  • Boltzfan

Things usually end up working out for the best. Good luck with that Baltimore!!!

  • J.C. Ortiz

Sigh…at least try to get Starks for some camp competition.

  • Pels04

A quote from Monty Python and the Holy Grail to McKinnie “I fart in your general direction”

    • RussinSactown

Your mother was a hamster and your father smelled of elderberries!

      • Nick in PB

Hahahaha Good one guys! If Gaither were still here we could say, it’s only a flesh wound!

  • TheReturnOfMrBlanks

Damn, now our options are pretty limited. Next years draft is going to have another big three but with actual skill players this time so the draft should go back to normal and we should be able to get one of them in the top 12 and not the top 4. I hope TT has a good backup plan though for this year lol

    • http://www.BoltBeat.com/ Peter Thompson

      We do… It’s King Dunlap.
Look at it this way. Joe D is a heck of a coach! If we are going to roll with Dunlap this season, at least we have one of the best in our corner, and he might be able to coach him up to be… what did everyone used to say about certain Chargers in the past? …. serviceable. At least Harris isn’t our starter.. that would be awful!

  • kris

I knew when he left without a contract yesterday we weren’t getting him. Im not an oline guru, but whats our option of starting Dunlap, but always having a back or tight end to help double team the left side?

    • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

i hate the idea of always keeping a guy in to help…. thats a wasted offensive weapon, when it is not needed. Dunlap is alright in pass protection but is horrible in run blocking.

      • kris

I guess run plays will be to the right this year then. All im looking for as a Charger fan this year with offense is whether or not PR is done. Provide PR with an adequate line and run game and if he still stinks we need to look for a qb. We should have an adequate line this year. I dont think we should over extend for a washed up LT at this point, this will be first priority next year.

      • http://www.BoltBeat.com/ Peter Thompson

Yeah. The extra guy option reminds me of AJ & Norv. It blows.

  • RussinSactown

Well he played us and Miami. You had to think that when he got an offer and decided to sit on it.

  • davacho

he may have used us and miami for leveraging a deal with baltimore?

    • http://www.BoltBeat.com/ Peter Thompson

Not may… he did exactly that.

  • RZ

He just wanted free food…weasel b***h!!

  • veazy

    He probably found Seaworld overrated.

    • http://www.BoltBeat.com/ Peter Thompson

Maybe they wouldn’t let him pet Norv the white dolphin unless he signed the contract?

  • http://www.BoltBeat.com/ Peter Thompson

It’s auight… We’ll remember that next time we play em….EXTRA pressure, and dirty play on the left side! Maybe an eye gouge, or a kick in the nuts on the bottom of the pile? Am I right boys? To tell you the truth.. as much as we need a left tackle… I am kinda glad. It wasn’t even the reports questioning his football commitment that bothered me. It was his ego, and most of all… that picture with Rhianna. She is a total friggin’ moron! Birds of a feather… know what I mean?

    • http://www.BoltBeat.com/ Peter Thompson

Ooops… lemme edit this a little bit. Eh-hem..
Am I right boys AND girls?!!! We have some pretty tough eye gauging Charger girls on here too ; )

      • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

and i love that the ladies join in

        • http://www.BoltBeat.com/ Peter Thompson

I bet you do. Best comments material right there.

  • http://www.facebook.com/lostkiara Stefanie Smith

Hey, I am sure TT is out there looking. Still have time to fix this.

    • http://www.BoltBeat.com/ Peter Thompson

      I like that attitude!!!!

  • RussinSactown

So we got played by a 30 something guy trying to get a better deal from his employer. It sucks but at the same time, if you could get a little extra pay by showing your current boss that you do have value on the open market, most people would do it, unethical as it may be. So G’bye, don’t let the door hit you on the way out. And if you go to Pittsburgh and get your ankle rolled up by Ziggy Hood or Lamarr Woodley, it won’t be us Charger fans raising a glass to karma.

  • http://www.facebook.com/lostkiara Stefanie Smith

I am the one that usually freaks out. Come on, it is only the 2nd of May. There is time. TT is probably on the lookout right now. There is SOMEBODY good out there–within the Charger price range. There is always Winston unless he wants too much money and/or he already signed somewhere else.

    • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

winston plays on the right side tho

      • tubbs45

Starks is the last improved LT, unless that Monroe trade comes to fruition. Which I dont think that Jags would do that until after the first set of camps…

      • http://www.facebook.com/lostkiara Stefanie Smith

I know. I forgot he played the right side. And he cannot change to the left. Winston out. Check!

    • http://www.BoltBeat.com/ Peter Thompson

That’s the truth right there, Stef! Way to get behind TT! No need to freak out. I know you will hate this Stef… but, even if it’s Dunlap, I’m still not freaking out. Just a little pissed about how McKinnie handled his business on this one. Maybe it’s just because we are on the losing end of it, but it just seemed like dirty business to me. I have to think to myself “Is TT as frustrated over it as we are”? Probably not…… next man up!

      • http://www.facebook.com/lostkiara Stefanie Smith

I admit. I am disappointed, but there is somebody out there. I am just mad that he was wasting our time. I don’t think he had any intention of leaving Baltimore. I know why he did it, and that is fine, but don’t like it when anybody wastes the Chargers’ time.

    • RussinSactown

That’s the way to think about it. He’s got time to both figure out if we have a working piece on the roster and to track down someone if we don’t. This is disappointing but not fatal.

    • Julien Bélair

      trade for monroe !!

      • MC Boltman

Would be cool, if we could trade Eddie Royal, but don´t think the Jags really need a WR. They got solid starting WRs and added Mohamed Massaquoi in FA and drafted slot receiver Ace Sanders. Do they want Clary? :) We also got 4 QBs on the roster – don´t think Whitehurst is worth a penny, but we surely don´t need him anymore, as he´s from the “old” system anyway.

But Monroe definitely would be awesome…

        • Julien Bélair

we could drop our second 2014 draft pick

          • MC Boltman

Well a draft pick compensation would be required anyway. But a Monroe trade surely would require high draft pick – at least a 2nd rounder yes. Guess TT has that in mind too. Will be interesting what his next step will be…

  • Alter Ego

He took the best deal for him. It may be a blessing in discuise for the Chargers.

I think TT and coaches know what they are doing. He had a certain price…the Chargers had a certain value. It wasn’t a match. Now the Chargers may focus on a higher value with a trade for a LT that will be more costly but with at least a better skill set and long term position coverage. I think they should go all in and trade for Branden Albert – give up the draft picks and fix the LT issue once and for all. The price is the price as the market dictates…the Chargers would be a tough go with that offensive line. With an emerging DeadBolt Defense…dare I say “playoffs”. :)

    • http://www.BoltBeat.com/ Peter Thompson

Brandon Albert already got signed by the Chiefs I believe.. off the market.

  • FitzWilly

Told Ya All we couldn’t trust this giant tub of shit
Lots of better options out there, and T^2 will find them :)

    • http://www.BoltBeat.com/ Peter Thompson

      Werd!

    • tubbs45

That POS didn’t really want to be a starter anyways! Riding the bench and hoggin the Cheetos is much more that party boy McKinnie’s style…

      • MC Boltman

Wow…on my article I was told not to question his motivation :) Whatever, let this “little” party boy do his little games…

      • FitzWilly

        hoggin the Cheetos

        LMAO :)

  • TheReturnOfMrBlanks

I don’t normally put any thought into Bleacher reports lists, but they had Harris last year as #35 worst LT dead last and Dunlap at #22 even if this is meaningless because some nobody came up with it at least Dunlap is looked at as that much better then Harris.

  • http://twitter.com/PowderBlue619 Saul Lopez

    In TT we trust!!

  • Julien Bélair

what about trade our second 2014 draft pick and get eugene monroe and sign him a new contract

    • tbell11

I’d rather wait and get our new LT in next years draft instead. Sign a vet to a 1 or 2 year contract and we’d be good.

      • Julien Bélair

why? he is a proven young healthy LT good in pass pro and run. Why waste our first round pick on a LT next year instead of getting this guy

        • tbell11

Because the OT position is so deep next year the Chargers will get their man for a cheaper price. Monroe is going to want more money next year because he’s in a contract year.

          • Julien Bélair

fair point but we don’t know if a good LT will fall to us in the next draft. I would prefer to release a couple of guys for example clary to get some money and pay for monroe rather than trade up next year and waste a second round pick to do so

          • tbell11

The thing is there could be 5 LT in the first round next year.

          • Julien Bélair

but we know monroe is great in pass pro and for opening the run. the LT we will get in next year draft could be just average in NFL. It will cost us less money but it is also riskier. And we also really need a LT this year and a good one next year, not prospect

          • http://www.facebook.com/lostkiara Stefanie Smith

I agree. Let’s get it done.

  • joerockt

Don’t have a good feeling about this. If we wanted an T, we should have tried to trade up for a starting LT. I really hope Te’o is worth is because if we don’t find a serviceable LT, Rivers face will be in the dirt often with the ball flying out of his hand, once again.

    • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

we have a serviceable one though… king dunlap is serviceable

      • joerockt

Maybe serviceable is the wrong word. Serviceable was Harris last year. “Starting” LT would be better. The Philly fans ran Dunlap guy out of town and is apparently a penalty machine. Not a starter.

        • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

i would think dunlap is much better than harris… but a more dependable tackle.. yes

  • http://www.signonsandiego.com/ Ambitoos

We have some time though Ernie. Not ready to panic yet. Kwame Geathers is still raw. Maybe they can retrain him for offense. He’s big and fast enough for the position.

  • Bill Nichols

It’s all good, “fat ass” was going to have a hard time keeping his weight under Shamu’s anyway…. Let go bolts. TT I know, you got this baby!!

  • Bill Nichols

Is shamu even still around?? Haven’t lived back home since 80′s… lol

    • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

Hahahah… Yea.. Different whale, same name

      • http://www.BoltBeat.com/ Peter Thompson

When I was six, they picked me to be a part of the Shamu show, and I got to feed him fish, and pet his tongue.. True story. I have a polaroid picture somewhere. His tongue was really rough, I remember… Lol.

        • http://www.facebook.com/lostkiara Stefanie Smith

Yep. Love the whales and dolphins. Saw Shamu (or his equivalent) peeking through the glass tank watching a kid carrying what looked like a camera bag. “Shamu” would peek out enough to squirt the kid then stop and keep following him down the length of the pool. When the kid stopped, “Shamu” stops and hits him with water.

Everyone figured out that Shamu thought the kid had the treat bag the trainers have. lol Too cute.

          • http://www.BoltBeat.com/ Peter Thompson

            Funny & cute = )

  • Ignatius

Good riddance, I was worried he might sign with the team and we’ll have Jared Gather v2.0. I for one would preffer to go to battle with Harris than these bums, at least the kid gave it all last year and with a year of improvement, he should be much better.

    • Nick in PB

That’s a good point. I would love to see some improvement there but that’s a lot to ask for an undrafted guy. He gave it his all last year and really kind of went backwards. It was too much for him. He will be improved but not by much.

  • Cgoodness13

Didn’t want him anyways, rather have starks

  • Rob Base

That fricken big fat poser! I’m going to order 300 pizzas and have them delivered to his house.

  • http://www.facebook.com/lostkiara Stefanie Smith

Seriously. What is the issue with switching sides? Is it that hard to do? I don’t know the answer and would like to know. RT to LT or LT to RT.

    • nativesandiegan

LT usually have to block the quickest, fastest, best pass rusher (like Dwight Freeney, Jared Allen) ch is why LT must have quicker feet and be more athletic.

  • Sergio Quintero

So the chargers chance for an upgrade at LT are: Max Starks who probably isn’t much of an upgrade over Dunlap and is probably an inferior pass blocker to him.

Or the trade option: with Eugene Monroe, Brandon Albert & Rodger Saffold. Albert will cost the chargers a premium in draft picks being in the chiefs division. Monroe has been mentioned by some of us, but I haven’t found any rumor that they have put him on the market; Saffold I have read that he’s very dissapointed to move to RT for the Rams, but I haven’t read anything about putting him on the market either.

To sum it up, it doesn’t look good on having a LT that isn’t King Dunlap as the starter for opening day. I trust Telesco, but he’s really going to have pull a rabbit out of a hat to find anyone better than Dunlap at this point.

  • nativesandiegan

Seemed like he was playing us and Miami, visiting, getting wined and dined, treated like a VIP, and then not signing with either of us. I was fearful of signing another Big Lazy who only does his best after a lot of rest during the playoffs. I’d welcome Starks but don’t think he’ll sign with anyone but the only team he’s ever been on – the Steelers. He seems to go through this every year with them, but eventually signs a 1yr deal with them. Our problem is that teams don’t let good LT’s just walk away. That’s why we should have traded up to #2 or 3 to insure getting our Franchise LT for the next 10 years, even if it cost our #2&4.
We could look for a good, athletic RT or G on our roster, FA, or trade for and convert to LT. Easier said than done.
