Chargers Trade Up And Select LB Manti Te’o

Mar 26, 2013; South Bend, IN, USA; Notre Dame Fighting Irish former player Manti Te

The San Diego Chargers moved up in the draft and selected Manti Te’o. OH SNAP!!!

Talk about a headliner!

The Chargers will now get clowned around by the rest of the league.

We needed help in the middle of the defense and we have a new man in the middle. Donald Butler and Manti Te’o will be taking care of the middle of the defense.

Where is his girlfriend?

I love the move. He will be awesome in the middle of the defense with Butler. He can cover and can help stop the run. Going to be great.

    • Gunnar Martin

Way to be a downer in a time of rejoicing

    • TheReturnOfMrBlanks

Ya word, way to never post on this site, then come on and Manti bash. Come on man

  • [email protected]

Hell yea! !! How bout that for a sexy pick

  • Preston Niedert

Alrightly then this move makes no sence what happned to oline. The oline should have be the focus in the not defence until the third or fourth round.

    • Cgoodness13

All we need is a LT really, plus FA is still on. We might sign Starks or McKinley

  • Gunnar Martin

    Say WHAAAAAAAAATTTT?????!!!!!!

Let’s look at the positive and see exactly what kind of football player we are getting here. Had a pretty amazing career with the Fighting Irish and was good enough to be a finalist for the Heisman. Many thought he was the rightful winner. He has great football smarts and instincts. Makes plays wherever he is, even when his weakness is exposed (i.e. his “struggles” in pass coverage).

Sounds good to me, especially considering we only had to give up a fourth rounder to move up. If nothing else, we got a bit more popular today ;)

    • Cgoodness13

I wish I could up this 50 more times

      • Gunnar Martin

Why thank you that made my day haha :)

    • joerockt

That’s a good eval. Kid has a motor, but I keep going back to that national championship game and wonder how he’s going to do against of the best.

      • Cgoodness13

Well he had warmack and fluker in his face all game, how he managed to do anything says something

        • joerockt

Right, and now he’ll go against the best and experienced NFL lineman. Jury is out until the Texans on Monday night

      • Gunnar Martin

Haha thanks, but let’s look at the vast majority of his career to see what kind of player he is. We should have faith in this kid.

        • arnie

Exactly. Phillip has had a pretty amazing career here as the starter, so should we push all that aside, because of the last two seasons?

    • DougM

Was only in the Heisman picture because he was at ND and had that story – which was fake.

      • Gunnar Martin

Not true. He was there because he LED ND to the championship with his top-tier football personality and skill. It was probably the right Heisman winner but he definitely earned his way up there.

        • DougM

Will have to agree to disagree here. If he’s on any team outside of ND, I don’t think he’s even considered. LBs don’t win Heismans.

          • arnie

True. But the facts are he was considered, and the Heisman is based on his football performance. Not sob stories.

      • boltingindiego

the story was half fake because he did lose his grandma.

  • Johnnie

What did we trade to move up?

    • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

      Traded our 2nd and 4th

  • Cgoodness13

We got a 1st rounder I’m the 2nd and a 2nd rounder in the first?!?! Lol

    • Per Ola Öberg

and a “late first early second” in the third

  • Chris Delacalzada

Why not? We still have the 3rd RD pick and Armstead will still be available. Focus on Teo’s football skills

I will NEVER root for such a despicable liar. #victimmyass

    • joerockt

 What makes you believe he lied and how did lying help him?

      • http://www.facebook.com/lostkiara Stefanie Smith

He actually admitted he lied, when he told people he had met this girl. He said in an interview that he said that because he was embarrassed to admit that she was only an online girlfriend. He talked to Katie Couric , I believe. He also admitted that he told his Dad that he had spent time with her, as his Dad had been in the news during the running for the Heismann trophy, and talked about Manti spending time with this girl.

Not saying I agree with it, but some theorize, as do MANY teams in the NFL (why his stock dropped) that he made up the story to get Heismann Trophy mileage ( the great sob story). Guess we’ll never know the story and hopefully he won’t go on a tangent when he is with the Chargers.

Some scouts thinks he brings problems. Hopefully not. There is really no question that he lied. He already admitted that. His stated reasons have given him some wiggle room.

        • joerockt

Yeah, but the whole thing wasn’t one big lie. I think it’s been explained enough that he got scammed. If you got that embarrassed, you’d lie too. I really don’t blame him. Now how he got there in the first place is a whole other matter.

  • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

Just got home!!! Love this move

    • Julien Bélair

      yes awesome pick

  • FitzWilly

Did Manti’s girlfriend take the site down?
    WoW she’s awesome
    Very Interesting Pick
it will definitely put us on the map

  • Rob Base

4 ILB are gone already Bolts started a trend. I’m happy with this pick. He would of been off the board by now. Lets see what Telesco has in store for the 3rd round.

    • boltingindiego

yah those ilb’s came off the board super quick.

  • http://www.signonsandiego.com/ Ambitoos

    Great move. Jr Te’o.

  • TheReturnOfMrBlanks

How much money has Matt Barkley lost? lol poor guy

    • DougM

Nobody left in round 2 to pick him either. maybe to Jags in round 3?

    • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

      Fo real

    • Cgoodness13

Bet ravens wish they let flacco walk, coulda got Barkley this late.

  • RussinSactown

I’m guessing he will have his pick of real girlfriends to choose from. Butler and Te’o will be a nasty duo.

    • TheReturnOfMrBlanks

Heck ya, we got almost no picks by a LB last year, Manti can catch the ball

  • TheReturnOfMrBlanks

Hey Ernie, can we get a round 3 open thread brotha?

    • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

      Sure… Getting it done

  • DougM

The ‘Hawks just took a girl: Christine Michael ;)

  • RZ

He’s a Bolt now…gotta root for the guy no matter what. He’s on “Our” Team. GO BOLTZ!!!

  • DougM

Wow, still no Barkley to Jags. Maybe to Raiders?

    • DougM

      Nope.

Te’O,Te’Ooooooo, Te’O Come & it’s gon’ Be ON! GO CHARGERS!!!!!

  • arnie

Did i get here in time? is everything okay? i came a soon i heard, and needed to make sure Ernie didn’t jump off the Coronado Bridge or anything…..LOL

    • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

      Haha.. Things are all gravy

      • arnie

Yeah it was a good pick, the Chargers needed a player to “compliment” Butler. They got one in Manti. He’s going to be a good football player that will do his job and allow other playmakers around him to flourish.

  • 1961 Fan

That’s right JoeRocket; if the kid starts he may get a real taste of real football. Perhaps he can remember the plays better than his GF.

  • Bigdaddy007

Unless Fluker outplays him as a rookie, since we are all used to waste of space clary. Teo will be the best pick of the new regime this year! Stoked dude can play, tired of the hate for one bad game. Welcome Mr. Teo !
