Chargers Depth Chart

Right before the start of the NFL Draft, we might as well take one more look at the Chargers depth chart. All kinds of players will be added onto the roster by the end of the week, but this will be a good overlook on the roster to see where the team needs some help.

Here is the depth chart as it stands right now:

QB Philip Rivers, Charlie Whitehurst
RB Ryan Mathews, Danny Woodhead, Ronnie Brown, Edwin Baker, Fozzy Whittaker
FB Le’Ron McClain, Chris Gronkowski
WR Danario Alexander, Vincent Brown, Malcom Floyd, Robert Meachem, Eddie Royal, Richard Goodman, Mike Willie, Deon Butler, Dan DePalma
TE Antonio Gates, John Phillips, Ladarius Green, Dallas Walker
OT Jeromey Clary, King Dunlap, Mike Harris, Kevin Haslam, Steve Schilling
OG Chad Rinehart, Johnnie Troutman, Rich Ohrnberger, Brandyn Dombrowski
C Nick Hardwick, Colin Baxter, David Molk

DE Corey Liuget, Kendall Reyes, Jarius Wynn, Damik Scafe, Logan Harrell
DT Cam Thomas
MLB Donald Butler, Bront Bird, Jonas Mouton, Andrew Gachkar, Phillip Dillard
OLB Melvin Ingram, Jarret Johnson, Larry English
CB Derek Cox, Shareece Wright, Marcus Gilchrist, Greg Gatson, Johnny Patrick, Cornelius Brown
FS Eric Weddle, Sean Cattouse
SS Brandon Taylor, Darrell Stuckey

K Nick Novak
P Mike Scifres
LS Mike Windt, Kyle Nelson

Look at the depth at that nose tackle position…. NOTHING! Maybe that is why you all voting on the poll for Star Lotulelei.

Just looking at our guards, there is no reason on why we need to select one high in the draft. All of them can compete for starting jobs and have had to fill in as starters before.

Help at Middle backer, offensive tackles, and the defensive front are needed in a bad way. That is for all the fans that draft on the NEED basis. I definitely am a proponent of the best player available philosophy though.

Trade down with vikings for 23 or 25. Draft a CB like trufant or rhodes. With two 2nd rounders draft LT armstead and ILB Jon Bostic.

    • Ernie Padaon

sounds pretty clean to me… wouldnt mind that at all

    • JoseSD

Maybe the Vikings want to replace Harvin with Tavon Austin and would like to trade up for the 11th pick

    • boltingindiego

way to high of a reach for bostic in the 2nd hes a 3rd to early 4th round pick.

  • Peter Thompson

Even though I want Vacarro, and would love to trade down, and get extra picks… If Star Lotulelei is there.. that’s your guy. He would be BPA, and fills a gaping hole. That makes tons of sense to me.

    • IrishCarBomb

Is it a gaping hole though? If Cam can start I am sure we can find a lower round or free agent nt (or two to be honest) to back him up. I am curious because I haven’t paid particularly close attention to his play, is Cam Smash not starter worthy? I just know that Clary on the top of our OL list scares the you know what out of me.

      • Peter Thompson

Well, it’s undetermined if Cam is good enough to be the starter. We will find out if TT thinks he is a strter pretty quick, if he passes on Star. Cam MAY be capable of being a good starter. What I meant by “gaping”, wasn’t necessarily saying that Cam isn’t a good player. I was really talking about Cam’s contract being up next year. If we keep him, and he is just an average NT this year.. we would be in a situation where he could ask for more money than he is worth in 2014, based on our need for a NT. If he plays good enough to deserve that kind of contract, everything would be great. But, If he’s not, we would get into another game of contractual chicken over this (which we did this year on a FEW important players.. didn’t go well, clearly). OR, we would be forced to depend on a lower round NT we drafted this year, who may (or may not) be as average as Cam. Or, you would have to turn to the draft, and hope that you can get a first round NT, or Free Agent NT next year. Sounds like a lot of “if’s” to me. Why do that, when you have a beast of a man sitting in front of you THIS year, who can start now, and shore up that front 3 for years to come? Even Weddle said he is a beast! If an OT lands in our lap at #11, take him. But, if not, Star would be the BPA in my opinion.. which is where I would stay put if I were TT… personally.
