DJ Fluker Keeps Popping Up In San Diego Chargers Rumors

DJ Fluker’s name seems to keep popping up around the San Diego Chargers radar lately. With the likelihood of the top 3 left tackles off of the board by the time the Chargers make their selection, the team has to keep their options open.

The offensive line is the easily the Chargers weak point and if those tackles are not there, some say that we should jump on one of those elite guards – Chance Warmack or Jonathan Cooper. Now comes the talk of the Chargers selecting RT DJ Fluker.

We all know that Jeromey Clary is one of the biggest matadors in the league. Somehow he tricked AJ Smith to get him a new contract with those matador skills. Bringing in Fluker could push Clary out of town. That could save us some dough to sign a rental left tackle also. It could save us about $2.3 million in salary cap room and could give us the ability to sign the left tackle that we need.

Doesn’t a tackle combo of Fluker and McKinnie sound better than Clary and Dunlap? Or Clary and anyone? We would just have to look toward next season in order to find our young left tackle.

This wouldn’t be the sexy pick that I love, but football games are still won in the trenches. You need a quarterback to play elite and an offensive line to create running lanes.

Selecting DJ Fluker would be disappointing to me, but I definitely can see us taking him over one of the guards in the draft. He fills a glaring need at right tackle and would be a tremendous upgrade to the right side of the line. If we do select him, I would rather we take him later in the 1st round after a trade back.

This could also be LIARS WEEK talk for, “Someone please trade in front of us and take DJ Fluker so that a left tackle could sneak their fat butts down this way!”

Who knows… once again, DJ Fluker?

sounds like a fluke to me

  • tbell11

I do not want this, I’d rather take Vaccaro than Fluker. The Chargers should trade up to the 6th spot and get OT Lane Johnson.

    • boltingindiego

lane johnson isn’t worth the 6th selection it’s a reach. would rather get a veteran like starks for a year or 2.

      • Cgoodness13

He’s a reach at 11 also. Don’t know why he’s so hyped up, I think that pretty much almost every team in the league has a talented QB so there’s no need for a high draft pick for QB so the next logical position is LT.

  • tubbs45

BS, if we arent trading down. AT freakin 11 Lane Johnson is pushing it. He stock has shot up because of high demand low supply… Lane has all of the numbers, but I just wasnt screaming pro-bowler over the film, which was GOOD, not great.

  • TheReturnOfMrBlanks

I can’t see why any RT would be worth a #11 pick. Man I don’t want this one to happen, just seems like a big ol fat reach.

    • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

Without knowing the players… Would you rather take a guard or a right tackle at 11?

      • TheReturnOfMrBlanks

thats true man, thats a tough one. Just cant see him at #11. If it happens and Clary is gone for good it might make people happy as long as we have a plan for LT.

        • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

Sadly… The more I thought about it, it kept making more sense than the guards… Still would be sort of disappointed

    • boltingindiego

if your franchise qb was a lefty it would be an easy selection at 11. just not worth it for us unless we traded down to the 20′s.

  • Julien Bélair

to me fluker is a second day pick. he is not good in pass pro in a pass happy league

  • TheReturnOfMrBlanks

How would you feel if our first 4 rounds went like this?

    1st: DJ Fluker RT
    2nd: John Jenkins NT
    3rd: Barrett Jones G/C
    4th: Leon Mcfadden CB

Then we still need a MLB, OLB, SS and LT we need more picks or we are going to either have a bunch of stop gaps starting or a bunch of rookies starting.

    • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

All 4 would contribute immediately… Would need to know where we fill this other gaps before I get too mad… Just wouldn’t be a sexy draft

      • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

        And I like sexy!

        • TheReturnOfMrBlanks

I also am a big fan of the sexiness, somebody should write maybe 7-10 five round draft possibilities and have us vote on which we prefer.

          • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

Might have to do a vote for the top selection… After day 1, we do another vote for day 2 selections… Great idea

        • FitzWilly

          You Called E-Pad?

    • Cgoodness13

Still have FA so I’m not tripping, i really want to sign Starks so we don’t have to trade up for these overrated tackles. Then we could probally take warmack or cooper. If they are off the board then either Ogletree or Miller.

  • NvrTllMeThOdds

Best case scenario if they go with Fluker, is that they get him later in the 1st Rd after trading back and picking up an extra 2nd Rd pick, then they trade one of their 2nd Rd picks to K.C. for Branden Albert (they will have extra money to pay Albert since they could now dump Clary with the drafting of Fluker). Both tackle positions solved and they still have another 2nd Rd pick to get the best available NT.

    • Sergio Quintero

completely agree with your scenario, I don’t like him at 11, doubt KC would trade Albert in the division, but an extra 2nd rounder in a deep draft is not a bad thing.

    • boltingindiego

we wouldn’t be able to sign him and our draft picks with that space even if we release clary.

  • Lee

why does everyone think we’ll pick up mckinnie? hes asking too much. more like we draft a left tackle and i hope we get eric winston

  • Cgoodness13

We’d have to trade back too like the rams or someone for this to happen, I still believe Johnson will “fall” to us.

  • Boltfanaz

No Johnson (reach at 11), no Fluker anywhere in Round 1 (reach). If we can’t get Star at 11 and make our D-Line beast for the next 7-10 years, then trade back and get more picks and go LT in 2nd and start filling other needs with young talent from this deep draft.

  • C.Steele

If we take Fluker at 11, TT got bamboozled! Never mind, the fact its a right tackle at 11. He should be a late first rounder or 2nd day pick. I’m calling BS on his sudden ascension up the draft bored. Star or Vaccaro!! Go Bolts!

  • sanford peisner

I like your pick, wonder about small corner back isn’t Mcfadden only 5’9 going against KC and Denver receivers that are much taller

  • BigAppleBolt
