San Diego Chargers Sign TE Dallas Walker

Walker Texas Ranger?

Nope. Dallas Walker. Another player that fits the funny name criteria that Tom Telesco has. Based off of his funny name love, I fully expect the Chargers to end up with Menelik Watson after the first round of the draft. Hopefully we get him after trading down.

Back to Dallas Walker. If you caught the dump this morning, you will notice the article about us signing Walker to the team. Walker was a member of the Georgia Rampage, an indoor football league team. He signed with the Chargers on a 3-year deal and will likely be another camp body, possibly a practice squad guy.

Walker is a 6-foot-6 tight end that played college ball with Western Michigan. He was a dual threat in Junior College playing quarterback and wide receiver. His numbers at Western Michigan are underwhelming, since he wasn’t even a starter, but he is given a chance and that is all some people need.

At least he has that height that Philip Rivers likes. Now, can he catch? Can he block? At least he will be learning from Antonio Gates and will be catching balls from Philip Rivers. Must be a dream come true for this kid.

Telesco is such a sweetheart signing nobodies and giving them a chance

    • RussinSactown

Watch him sign some kid from culinary school, two guys from South Central Louisiana State and a guy who own a taco truck and take us to the super bowl.

      • Cgoodness13

It worked for the bucs right? Lol the year with all the hold outs

This guy will either show absolute genius or absolute madness. Either way admit it, he’s been entertaining.

  • http://www.facebook.com/lostkiara Stefanie Smith

And to think when AJ did it, we called it dumpster diving,.. scrounging. Who knew this is actually a genius thing to do? Not!

    • boltingindiego

basically hes an undrafted free agent plus we need some te’s bodies for camp since mcmichael and rosario aren’t gonna be back this year.

      • http://www.facebook.com/lostkiara Stefanie Smith

Think it goes beyond camp as they are usually release at the end of preseason. But maybe he is signed for the practice squad. Maybe they are trying to get depth in the position. He did get a three year deal, but it really isn’t so outrageous.. although it adds up. For every 3 projects, you could get yourself a decent player or could have kept one of our other guys that were just as good and really not asking for a lot of money Can’t see how we are moving ahead with all this scrounging., I remember everyone complaining when AJ did this “scrounging for players” thing. It’s not any better when TT does it.

        • boltingindiego

the only person that signed for cheap and who was worth the money was aubrayo franklin. Only person i wished we kept whos been signed by another team. Antwan barnes wasn’t worth keeping since he had a down year from 2011 when he had 11 sacks to 3 last year.

          • http://www.facebook.com/lostkiara Stefanie Smith

I was thinking of Franklin. And I am worrying about Danario, Man, I hope they take care of him. Rivers has something going with that guy.

I went and checked to see what Aubrayo Franklin was making with the Chargers. It wasn’t a lot…something like 1.2 mill for each year. Granted, the Jets are paying him a whole bunch more now. There are more.. The bulk of the money spent with AJ is Rivers, Weddle, Meachem, Gates, Gaither, Royal , Clary, Jarrett Johnson,. There’s a good handful that weren’t breaking the bank. The high priced players are still here. I counted Gaither because of the cap hit for this year and next year.

My only question is why did we get so mad at AJ Smith when he did this scrounging around for players?

          • IrishCarBomb

Does anyone even have the numbers on what camp bodies make? If not, then your claim of three bodies per good player has no base. Who knows if its 11 bodies? As for the contract, who knows what release clauses there are? Instead of taking your frustration out with cynical comments use that energy to go look something up.

  • Rob Base

I couldn’t even find highlight on this dude. Telesco must like something about him. Maybe he will push Green though. that will be an interesting camp body to keep an eye on.

    • http://www.BoltBeat.com/ Peter Thompson

Could be interesting. Nothing wrong with bringing these types of players in. They finally get a shot, so they are auditioning for the entire NFL. Which means they are hungry. They push your “perceived” starters to do better. That way they don’t get… what is the word I’m looking for?… Complacent. ; )

      • arnie

besides, you never know where the next Charger HOF will come from.

  • Cgoodness13

6-6? Maybe he’s our new LT? Can finally draft that WR all the writers here want lol

  • http://www.facebook.com/lostkiara Stefanie Smith

And it is so genius that TT signs this guy to a 3 yr deal. If AJ had done this, we would be spitting nails right now.

  • FitzWilly

    Hill-Billy or Redneck???????????????

    • http://www.BoltBeat.com/ Peter Thompson

      Yes!!!! Cue the banjo..

      • FitzWilly

Thinking of branding him “Skeeter” :)

Hahahaha! Nice… First Fozzy, and now Skeeter.

          • FitzWilly

            OMG
            We’re turning into the Muppets

    • Cgoodness13

Jewish cowboy I think. Maybe telesco hired him as a lawyer? Or financial adviser?

    • joerockt

Kinda like a Dude! Woah, Hillbilly kinda Redneck.

      • FitzWilly

every good team needs bat-crap crazy :)

        Am I right Ladies :)

  • http://www.BoltBeat.com/ Peter Thompson

His coach said he runs phenomenal routes and has really good hands, Also
said he is a good special teamer. He was one of fifteen other TE’s who
tried out at an NFL day in Chicago, and made it. Probably just a camp
body, but at least TT is thinking outside the box, seeing how we have no
effin money. Gotta get SOME competition to push the guys in camp. That way, we can use the money to sign McKinnie, or Winston, or DX, or any other positions, etc. Pretty sure I heard a bunch of people praying we sign players like that… lol. Can’t have your cake and eat it too.

    • http://www.facebook.com/lostkiara Stefanie Smith

And he gets a three year deal to be a camp body?

      • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

Nothing is guaranteed… They give 2 year deals to a lot of camp bodies. If they make it, you have him for 3 years for cheap

        • http://www.facebook.com/lostkiara Stefanie Smith

Even on the cheap–all these projects add up to at least one guy we let walk. How is this making us better?

        • http://www.BoltBeat.com/ Peter Thompson

Probably got offered the minimum. $285,000 a year for a rookie.

      • http://www.BoltBeat.com/ Peter Thompson

I’m not explaining the basics of camp contracts to you. Go look it up.

        • http://www.facebook.com/lostkiara Stefanie Smith

I am in full understanding of basic contract law. Why do you guys try to insult simply because you do not like the question?
Never asked you to explain, because I am sure it would be erroneous.

          • http://www.BoltBeat.com/ Peter Thompson

Who are “you guys”? If I am being short, it’s because I have watched numerous people interact with you at length, which usually ends up in a vicious cycle of “tit-for-tat”. I am not getting involved in that noise.

          • http://www.facebook.com/lostkiara Stefanie Smith

But you are , as you found the need to answer and respond and keep it going, without ever answering the question. You were insulting, assumed you knew more about the subject; dismissive by framing the subject matter as “basics of camp contracts” and “go look it up.” You were rude because you didn’t like the somewhat rhetorical question I asked. I actually did not expect an answer, but I can see you have plenty to say.

          • http://www.BoltBeat.com/ Peter Thompson

It wasn’t that I didn’t like the question. I just don’t like you, boo-boo. Deuces!!!

          • http://www.facebook.com/lostkiara Stefanie Smith

lol. Some silly Chargers blog/comment board really gets you worked up.

          • http://www.BoltBeat.com/ Peter Thompson

Nice try…. My pulse hasn’t gone up for a second. In fact, my wife has been giving me an exfoliating face treatment this whole time…. Lol.

  • Rafael Solorzano

“Get Menelik Watson after the first round of the draft. Hopefully we get him after trading down” Its not happening, Oline will be first and second.

    • FitzWilly

I’m pretty sure he was trying to be funny
because of the name not the player

      just sayin

  • joerockt

Waiting for Ali Haji-Sheikh to make an appearance.

    • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

      Love it

    • FitzWilly

Don’t forget Hugh Jass and Mike Hunt :)

      • joerockt

        And Jacques Strappe.

  • http://www.BoltBeat.com/ Peter Thompson

I don’t see anything funny about the names of the guys TT is signing. (Wacka Wacka).

    • FitzWilly

      I concur
      T-Squared has this
      but we will be watching
