Chargers Sign A Bunch Of Dudes

I don’t even know why I choose to write about things like this.

The San Diego Chargers have added a few more players onto the roster today by signing WRs Deon Butler, Dan DePalma and CB Cornelius Brown, per Ricky Henne.

I actually started looking up all the info for all these players, but then I wasn’t sure if you guys actually care about these guys. Just going to be a bunch of camp bodies right there.

Here is all the info I looked up for these dudes:

Deon Butler most recently played for the Seattle Seahawks, but was waived in 2012 during pre-season. He was drafted out of the 2009 draft in the 3rd round from Penn State.

Dan DePalma was an undrafted free agent that is attempting for his first shot at an NFL roster. He worked with the New York Jets in the pre-season, but didn’t make it to onto the roster.

Cornelius Brown is a corner that played with the Colts for a bit.

Anyone think that any of these guys will make the roster? Can you run fast? Go down to Chargers Park, you might be able to get a contract right now.

Meanwhile, there is talk going around that Miami wants to move up and select Lane Johnson and that the Cowboys are in talks with Winston. I don’t know a whole lot about Winston, except that I think he wants close to Jake Long money. If that is the case, we can count the Chargers out there.

    • Preston Niedert

They are just talk and the cowgirls don’t have the cap space to sign Eric Winston it’s his agent trying to make something happen so a team like the dolphins or chargers sign him.

      • davacho

        EXACTLY.

    • blu3ny3llow

Well according to Daniel Jeremiah (or some thing like that) Winston is just as good/bad/average as Clary so….

  • davacho

i like butler- only 5’10, but dude ran a 4.38 40 and if you project out his totals from a couple years back (i know that is ridiculous) his best season stat line would have been: 72rec 770 yds and 8 td (that was with a hasselbeck in decline throwing to him 3k yds 12td/17 int). just saying : )

    • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

didnt he have a major injury though?

      • davacho

        season-ending

This article about DePalma is kinda interesting. He may have a shot after all

    • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

      That’s a sweet post

      • TheReturnOfMrBlanks

We might be building a hoody style offense with alot of little white dude weapons. Might be pretty cool

  • http://www.facebook.com/ryan.outlaw Ryan Elliott

All of these are most likely camp bodies although Butler would be nice to have if they feel he can contribute more than Royal.

Brown could be strictly depth, possibly 4th or 5th determining how Johnny Patrick turns out.

DePalma may be the most intriguing signing. In practice he was the one playing Welker so the Giants could learn how to contain him in the SB. Our division opponents oddly enough have Welker on their roster

  • noel gee

Obviously, you didn’t do your research prior to writing this article. The Giants called DePalma, the toughest receiver to cover (do a google search. He can play both CB and WR, and return punts. He Mimicked Welker and Edelman for the Giants (it’s NOT his 1st attempt at a roster.) Butler ran a 4.32 at the combine. He got injured in 2011. One of these guys can become our 6th receiver assuming Royal gets cut. I figured that with our quick passing style offense McCoy will bring to the table, it will give Rivers quick targets like these two. Do not judge book by the cover. Let’s see at the end of 2013. After all, Gates, Denario Alexander were FA’s before weren’t they? They turned out to be good for us too and play a similar position. (WR/Pass receiving.)

Brown played a slot corner for the Colts. We could upgrade the competition there with him. I like the choices that were made here.

I don’t consider practice squad an active roster spot… Still hasn’t made it yet

      • blu3ny3llow

Who is that guy..I got your back just let me know when…..lol….jk

        • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

Hahaha.. It’s all good. Everybody has their opinion

        • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

          I do appreciate it tho

    • Lee

whoa bro slow your role. i doubt royal gets cut seeing as mccoy used to use the guy all the time and he did well under him.

  • Preston Niedert

Deon butler could make the team easely. The. Chargers could always use WR with the way the WR core is the chargers are going to need WR.

    • nate lew

Not easily. If we keep DX there is him, M80, Brown, Meachem & Royal. 5 good receivers right there, if we keep another they’ll be used as a return man so Butler would have to show something he never has to make this team.

      • http://www.BoltBeat.com/ Peter Thompson

DaPalma averaged 26.2 yards returning, according to the youtube clip.. Don’t have enough info to say how many returns that was, though. Not that he will be the dude, but I get the feeling Royal’s return game appeal may be being phazed out.

  • http://www.BoltBeat.com/ Peter Thompson

So which one is the guy in the picture? He’s a starter, for sure!

    • http://www.BoltBeat.com/ Peter Thompson

I kinda feel a Royal cut coming.

      • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

I think it happens when we sign DX… We still have Mike Willie also that can compete

        • Lee

nah mccoy likes him too much
