2013 NFL Mock Draft: The San Diego Chargers Select…

It has been a minute since we had checked the FanSided NFL Mock Draft, but we are getting closer and closer to the draft and things are getting clearer so we should be brining these in for the next few weeks till draft time.

This time around in the FanSided Mock, all 3 left tackle options are off the board by the time the Cardinals select at pick number 7. Jonathan Cooper was selected at pick number 8. Who would the Chargers go with at pick 11?

11. San Diego Chargers – Chance Warmack, OG/Alabama
Guards are hot this year, and both Jonathan Cooper and Chance Warmack will go quickly after one another if things fall into place. Teams are realizing that you can load up on skill players, but winning starts with solid protection up front, and new head coach Mike McCoy is making Philip Rivers success his No. 1 priority. That starts with making sure he’s protected and Warmack is arguably the best guard in the country.

Chance Warmack. He is one of the best prospects available in the draft. It wouldn’t be a bad selection for the Bolts, especially with that scenario of all the tackles being taken. He would help fix that offensive line issue that we have been harping about all offseason.

What would you do with that selection?

The more and more I wait for this draft, the more and more I like the idea of taking Tavon Austin. The tackles will be gone. The guards are elite talent, but they are guards and we can find good ones later.

There are not a lot of times where you get the ability to pick up someone with Tavon Austin type of talent. He would be an immediate starter in the slot and would give Philip Rivers a quick option to get the ball out to.

Dang, little number 45 behind Chance looks like he wants to kill him. lol
I’d love to have Chance, our line would be better right away why not. Who knows though mabe TT likes the guards they have picked up and might look to go in another direction, we could literally pick like 6-7 different guys and I don’t think I would be unhappy with any of them.

i know… we just need playmakers more than anything

      • http://www.facebook.com/lostkiara Stefanie Smith

Exactly. Take the best available and don’t get too creative. We need playmakers. I don’t think Cordarelle would be bad either. There are few good ones coming up at 11. We’ll get someone that makes an impact.

Draft boards showing Chance Warmack, Star, Cooper, Cordarelle all near our number. Some still showing us getting Johnson, but not likely.

Sorry Ernie but Tavon Austin at 11 to the chargers…no. He’s fast but I don’t like the idea of a 5’8 WR on this team. I see him kind of like a Dexter McCluster, speedy and shifty but too small to play WR but not quite a right fit at RB. It would be awesome to use him like Sproles was back in the glory days but isn’t that what Woodhead was brought in for. If they don’t pick O line I think they need to go defense. I just don’t think Austin is worth being picked that high. If they do go WR id rather get Cordarrelle Patterson. Hes 6’3 and has that combination of size, speed, power, strength and makes plays after the catch. Its the type of WR Philip loves. The only thing with him is he’sonly played one year at Tennessee

    • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

mccluster came out of college as a runningback… austin plays receiver. wouldnt wes welker help this team out? I wouldn’t mind Cordarelle either.

      • JoseSD

Id rather have Floyd, V Brown, and DX(seems like no one including the Browns are interested in snatching him away) rotate on the outside and Royal, Meachem work in the slot. way to many needs to go WR that early

        • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

honestly.. .round 1, i dont care what are needs are. get me the best freaking player that is available. i dont want to select Marcell Dareus when AJ Green, Patrick Peterson, Julio Jones, Aldon Smith and JJ Watt are there.

          • JoseSD

I hear you but no receivers in this draft are on par with Julio Jones or AJ Green when they were in the draft

          • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

            well… that is for sure

          • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

sadly… are there any players in this draft that could touch AJ and Julio?

          • http://twitter.com/NativSanDiegan Paul Kokal

Agree. Get BPA, & if it’s close then “harder to fill” position &/or position of dire need. Can’t’ get my nativesandiegan moniker back.

Patterson doesn’t have a skillset to be a talented nfl wr. He’s like the Tim tebow of wrs. Like he’s not really a wr but u don’t know what to do with em so u just put him there because its what helped in college. Justin hunter, tennessees other wr is a pure body wr who has a way better shot to succeed at the next level. If u watched both of their tapes u would see.

  • davacho

if we can’t get one of the 5 elite lineman at 11- i say drop back a few, pick up another pick and grab cb rhodes.

    • http://www.facebook.com/pete.spinning Pete Spinning

Trade down w/ the Rams to 16… it’s an excellent idea!

  • http://www.facebook.com/will.davis.7355 Will Davis

What about vincent brown? Tavon would be a mistake. This team has a LOT more holes than just oline. It has to be OG in rd 1 if the tackles are gone. Otherwise Cb should he next (Xavier Rhodes). And tavon isn’t even the best wr in the draft (Robert woods).

  • 619chargers4life

if the best Tackles and Guards are gone then i would say try to trade back by swapping 1st round picks and obtaining another 2nd rounder. and with my two second round picks i would try to snatch up Warford or Watson or Armstead or Fluker if available. and with my first round pick in position order SS,MLB, DL doesnt really matter to me as long as the first rounder is a play maker and i grab at the least 2 OL in the second round.

    • http://www.facebook.com/pete.spinning Pete Spinning

This is exactly what we should do. Maybe even if the top guards are still there IMO.

  • tbell11

I think the chargers will let troutman compete for a starting job and select an OLB at 11if all three tackles are gone

    • Cgoodness13

Assuming they move Johnson or Ingram to inside?

  • http://www.facebook.com/lostkiara Stefanie Smith

Didn’t get 100% turnout at the voluntary workout today, but McCoy said it was pretty good and the guys that didn’t show up had called him ahead of time. He wouldn’t give any names of those that didn’t show up. Can’t figure what he is thinking by not wanting to give out the names. (no names = he is ticked off?) or (no names = players are on verge of getting cut?). hmmm.

    • 619chargers4life

      Excellent point. with you there.

  • Cgoodness13

Warmack should go before fisher, either falling to us shoul be awsome

  • http://www.facebook.com/pete.spinning Pete Spinning

I think we should get somebody in the middle of this defense. Somebody versatile, tough, and hard hitting to partner with Weddle or Butler. The LT’s will be gone, and we can get a good guard, and o-line help in the later rounds. Not as high on selecting Warmack or Cooper at 11, as I once was.

    has anyone heard about this:

    Malcolm Floyd
In a surprising move, the Chargers have traded Malcom Floyd to the
Cleveland Browns for a 3rd round pick. He will reunite with former
offensive coordinator Rob Chudzinski and former head coach Norv Turner.
Thanks for the memories and best of luck in Cleveland M80!
