…About That Chargers Starting Left Tackle Job

Jan 4, 2013; Arlington, TX, USA; Texas A

Is the starting left tackle already on the San Diego Chargers roster? After releasing Jared Gaither today, the Chargers have one less option to use at left tackle if Lane Johnson is not available with the 11th pick in the draft. If Lane Johnson is not there for us in the draft, then who will the Chargers use to start at left tackle?

Could we trot Mike Harris back out there for more punishment on the left side? Are we going to throw King Dunlap out there for a season and hope he can hold up? Or will we just be praying that we can get a left tackle somewhere in the draft? If Lane Johnson is not there, then maybe we will look for someone in the second round to fill the hole, like Terron Armstead.

Right now, King Dunlap looks like the best option to put out there on the left side. The same King Dunlap that Philadelphia Eagles fans were stoked about kicking off of their squad.

There will be a competition for the left tackle job and there are a few options that are not yet on the roster. Offensive line has to be high on Tom Telesco’s list to fix during the NFL draft. We are sure to pickup a few players before we start suiting up to play games. Hopefully one of those guys can play like a stud!

with gaither being cut. You would think the chargers trade up and draft eric fisher or lane johnson there a good chance all three OT are off the board befor the chargers draft.

That’s a tough spot… Still can get an elite lineman at 11, would be a guard, then go tackle in 2nd round. Wouldn’t be as awesome, but wouldn’t have to burn some picks to move up

Cooper 1st then Armstead in 2nd what u think?

        • Preston Niedert

Cooper good wouldn’t be a bad fit but armstead no

          • Rob Base

Who you think would be good OT in 2nd pick

          • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

What do you not like about Armstead?

        • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

          I would love it

if we got cooper i would want to trade down so we could get some extra picks.

What about Kevin Haslam??….I’m beginning to think the 3 tackles will be gone by the 11th pick which kinda sucks but I’m sure someone will available in the 2nd round…which I guess is okay cus they don’t need top notch linemen for a ZBS…I’m starting to like Star Lotulelei for the 11th pick

i wouldnt mind bringing him back… he filled in alright last season and did better than Mike Harris

    • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

it would be crazy to add Star to that defense too

Kansas City is looking to trade their LT since they have the first pick in the draft. St. Louis also has two picks in the first. Telesco has stated that he’s not averse to trading up or down. These next weeks will be interesting leading up to the draft.

Think Albert would cost too much in cap space

  • TheReturnOfMrBlanks

Every tackle that was drafted in the first 4 rounds last year started every game except one due to injury. But if 100% of last year’s first four rounds can start I think there are options in each round for the LT job and any of them are light years better then Harris. So what if the big three are gone, do you think Armstead would block worse then Harris (a undrafted dude) Hell no, Armstead or Williams or any of them are better then what we have now which is nada.

Go Chargers!!! Clean that house! I love it!

On a totally different tangent… Why was Spikes ever the “presumed” leader of our defense in the first place? Isn’t that Weddle’s forty million dollar job? Love me some Weddle, but that always puzzled me. If I was coach, I would pretty much demand it. Am I missing something?

Voted on by the players… And Takeo has a way with words

      • http://www.facebook.com/pete.spinning Pete Spinning

Oh, got it! I forgot the players voted for the leaders. I wish Weddle was more charming & inspirational then.. hahahaha!

Oh, all of yeh have little faith. To me it really doesn’t matter who they move into the position. We won’t see the impact of the changes now, until 2015.
I’m just excited to see competition for the spot. The coaching staff alone is leaps and bounds better than norvs. And that I place a lot of improvement will come from, immediately.
If the Chargers could play, good, fundamentally sound, consistent football, for sixty minutes, with the majority of it’s roster healthy, would we really care who’s at LT anymore? We got what we wanted, and I’m excited for the next man up!
See I not looking at this whole situation Asa glass half, to half empty. I’m seeing TT just throwing out the ugly chipped glass that doesn’t even hold water.

We care because we don’t like seeing Rivers getting knocked around for hours. It does make a difference still.

      • arnie

Neither do I. The key being, “…play, good, fundamentally sound, consistent football, for sixty minutes…”. My point being, draft picks are 50/50. They could have all the up side from college, film and on paper, and still not make the final roster. Big Mac was taken in the 2nd round, while Kris Dielman was an undrafted rookie. Yet they combined for 6 pro bowls, contributed to 22 averaged sacks a season, in the four years they reached the playoffs, while they were the starters.
Johnson, Womak, Dunlap, pick one. There are no guarantees. At the end of the day I only care about who can get the job done. McCoy will give his players all the tools they need to succeed. But he won’t know which one will be successful, until they suit up.
