Manti Te’o Improves 40 Time at Notre Dame Pro Day

Feb 25, 2013; Indianapolis, IN, USA; Notre Dame Fighting Irish linebacker Manti Te

Manti Te’o has been living under a microscope ever since his fake girlfriend story set fire to the world. At the NFL Combine, he looked like he was running with an elephant on his back. He ran a 4.82 second 40-yard dash and put his 1st round status in question.

Today was the Notre Dame Pro Day and Te’o just unofficially ran a 4.75 second 40-yard dash:

That should help a little, but that still is not blazing speed for a middle linebacker. Te’o doesn’t really rely on being a blazer though. He has a good football IQ and knows where to be on the football field. He is always around the football.

Let his stock fall in the draft. If he was there in the second round, I would jump all over that. I understand he struggled against Alabama, but he is a quality football player despite that performance.

Donald Butler and Manti Te’o in the middle of the defense? Yes please!

I’d take a chance on him. I’m not sure I’d want to throw a 2nd at him given our other needs. A young Middle linebacker to go with the other young guns in the defensive front would give teams fits.

I would actually love getting Manti. get me tyrann mathieu in the 4th, chance in the 1st… Get me winners… football players. winning attitude

      • chargersfanfromswitzerland

actually i would love chance or lane in the 1st and tyrann in the 2nd! what do you guys think, too early for tyrann?? guess he`s gone after the 2nd round!

        • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

i think it would be a little early to take tyrann… still think he would be available in the 3rd. 4th could be pushing it though.

          • Brandon Rios

Tyrann would be a good fit in San Diego. He won’t have to worry about getting busted with weed if he gets a medicinal card.

          • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

hahaha… or he can go to Denver and not even worry about a medicinal card

          • Per Ola Öberg

3rd maybe, 4th prob not. Guessing some teams are willing to take a chance. And with that Sandcastle look-a-like pushing for him, he wont last to fourth.

          • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

truth…. i wouldnt mind taking a chance on him in the 3rd either. Leon McFadden would be a possibility in that round too.

          • Per Ola Öberg

Same, always depends if someone else falls or what happens in the first rounds. But I would welcome that pick. Might even welcome Manti at second.. he could prob keep up with Tamme when Broncos goes for singleback tight doubles or something hehe

        • boltingindiego

way too early for just a slot corner especially an undersized 1 who missed a whole year not due to injuries. I see him maybe going late 3rd but probably a 4th rounder.

Ernie – I’m the only person on the planet who hasn’t followed the Manti thing (because it is ridik!!!). Can he play the Mike position next to Butler? I didn’t pay attention to his college career, so I’m not sure. If so, he clearly fits one of our glaring needs. Not many people out there who can play the Mike.

Also, I get this funny feeling that TT will go NT with our first pick if we don’t sign a free agent NT first. I know people will be pissed, but we have so many o-linemen on the roster already. Thomas’s contract is up next year, and I heard there isn’t much depth for NT in this draft or in FA. What do you think about that?

        • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

if star lotulelei is available with the 11th pick… i would love it. actually was going to post on star later today.

  • arnie

I agree Ernie. at what point does this fake girlfriend affect his ability to play football? let’s be clear, this is a story that is important to the “media”. the bottom line to NFL teams is, can he help them win football games?

i did little research of drafted linebackers
    http://walterfootball.com/nfldraftlinebackers.php

if you notice most of the players on that list were two tenths of a second faster than Manti. TWO TENTHS. really? are they looking for a track star? or a football player?

    • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

Nice comparisons…. I will take the football player over the track star every time.

      • arnie

thanks. if you look closer though, almost half of those guys are not in the league anymore. the others, do you think T-sizzle can run a 4.65 now? do you think the ravens care?

        • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

hahahah… no way he can get to that 4.65… that would be dang impressive though if he can

          • arnie

even better, do think Ray Lewis would be happy to finish with 6 seconds? LOL

          • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

            hahahaha

      • Per Ola Öberg

Footballplayers running like trackers is better than trackers playing football

        • Cgoodness13

          Rg3?

          • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

            haha… still a football player

          • Per Ola Öberg

that is actually a well used quote from the combine this year :) Comparing the WR specially

    • Per Ola Öberg

Donald Butler, 4.61. If you want to compare with something familiar

      • arnie

The comparison was to show how he measured up against a few of the top linebackers, taken in the first round. Butler was taken in the 3rd, 79th overall. Still knowing where to be, and where everyone should be is more important in my book. he’s a good pick just not in the first.

        • Per Ola Öberg

Yea, that was more for people to compare to a player in the squad that we love having here. And he is a beast!

          • arnie

Of that i have no doubt. When Butler tore his achilles his rookie season, he didn’t get much playing time to develop, in the following year..

          • Per Ola Öberg

Yea, that sucked. But might have given him some more hunger and a chance to beef up some extra. Maybe Taylor could do a Butler.. and come back like a beast (even if his injury was late). Hmmm.. one can only dream

  • Rob Base

I think that he could contribute for our Bolts D no doubt he is a ball hawk but not a 1st rounder we need someone with pass rush nastiness! He seems like a AJ pick and not a Telesco pick. But who knows I’m no expert.

    • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

I wouldn’t do it in the 1st… but if he is there in the 2nd. no doubt i would be all over that

  • Cgoodness13

    Sounds made up lol

    • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

hahahahahhaha… it just won’t get old! i will gladly accept jokes like that for multiple seasons on our team!

  • Per Ola Öberg

Earnie, I know i read on my phone something about “I know he didnt perform that graet against bama bout..” was that a pre defense for me not bashing on that one again? :) Cant find that comment anymore tho, guessing you got cold feet haha. Keep the nice work up mate!

    • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

hahaha… i know you wrote something about it and others have been saying that same thing. it was a little bit of a pre-defense :)

  • Cgoodness13

Any one know what his squat was?

  • tbell11

If he’s available in the 2nd round then why not
