San Diego Talent Needs To Stay in San Diego

A good friend of mine, Michael S. has said to me time and time again, “we have a lot of talented football players coming out of San Diego, we have to keep them here at home.” He’s absolutely right, San Diego State will be bolstering a few names this year such as Gavin Escobar, TE and Leon McFadden, CB. Not to mention a few of the all time greats such as Marcus Allen, Terrell Davis and who can forget the late, great Junior Seau, all have stepped foot on San Diego soil whether they were born and raised here or attended college. I personally graduated from the same High School as former Chargers linebacker Donnie Edwards. These are only a handful of names from the past, but speaking of the present we have Reggie Bush slated to conquer in Detroit and maybe someday, Tony Romo (who was born in San Diego but not raised) holds a 95.6 passer rating, 5th best of all time. There’s a bit of magic in San Diego that even outsiders want a piece of. Aaron Rodgers, Green Bay’s prized quarterback makes his home in our beloved city during the off season.

As you can see, there’s something more than the nice weather and beautiful beaches, San Diego produces quality athletes. I firmly believe that Vincent Brown, a San Diego State alumni will come back from injury and prove he is our future in the wide receiving crew. A young guy like Gavin Escobar to someday take over for Antonio Gates might be what we need. Perhaps Leon McFadden can step in and take over for the other cornerback position. Both those guys will be available in the draft around the 3rd to 5th rounds.

– Terrell Davis, born/raised in San Diego. 3-time All-Pro, Denver Broncos leading rusher, 7,607 yards.
– Marcus Allen, born/raised in San Diego. 6-time Pro-Bowler, 2-time All-Pro, 12th leading rusher of all time, 12,243 yards, 3rd in career rushing touchdowns, 123 TDs.
– Junior Seau, born/raised in San Diego. 12-time Pro-Bowler, 6-time All Pro, 1,849 career tackles, retired number.
– Donnie Edwards, born/raised in San Diego. 1-time Pro-Bowler, 1498 career tackles, 20/20 club.
