Danny Woodhead’s Contract Details w/ Chargers

Dec 16, 2012; Foxboro, Massachusetts, USA; New England Patriots running back Danny Woodhead (39) is congratulated by quarterback Tom Brady (right) after a touchdown against the San Francisco 49ers during the third quarter at Gillette Stadium. So here are the contract details for the San Diego Chargers newest runningback:

Overall terms: 2 years, $3.5 million ($1 million guaranteed)
Signing bonus: $1 million
2013 base salary: $750,000 (non-guarnateed)
2014 base salary: $1.75 million (non-guaranteed)

Tell me why the New England Patriots didn’t re-sign him again? The answer definitely wasn’t the money! I know his numbers dropped a bit, but it wasn’t too bad. He’s only 28 years old. Maybe he doesn’t run the 40 at 4.33-seconds anymore, but dang!

Anybody else want to come to San Diego with that bargain basement deal? Eric Winston? Brandon Moore? Max Starks? Just come down this way! I am sure we will find a way to get you involved!

I just became an even bigger fan of Danny Woodhead. Is it wrong that Danny Woodhead is already one of my favorite players and he hasn’t done a thing yet?

From what I’ve seen so far the Chargers are drafting players based on bargain prices. If these orders are coming from the top, and I suspect they are, this may be the reason AJ couldn’t keep players. With all the new rules like the helmet rule, the game is slowly deteriorating. Kind of like the Padres.

It may appear that bargain pricing was the rule of the day. I thought so, but I was incorrect. Go google the contracts that the existing Charger players have, i.e. Meachem, Gaither, Battle, . These guys did not come cheap and got a lot of guaranteed money. So, no, it is not a Spanos edict to go cheap. It was an AJ debacle on not spending what he was allowed to spend (however he got there) wisely.
You can tell they weren’t afraid of spending because we were close to the salary cap. We would have a huge surplus if we were going cheap.

We are stuck now with a lot of guaranteed money going to non-performers. So TT has to back us out of this mess and then we can move on. Spanos family may be skittish, but they were willing to cut loose. We just signed Cox. He wasn’t really cheap and got a good going rate deal .

Hey, I believe it was you or maybe the guy that calls me the Vibe Killer that brought this to my attention, so I started looking at what these guys are getting paid. I was shocked.

Here’s a link where Mike McCoy talks about fixing Rivers and maybe finally having a solid number 2 QB.

    • http://www.facebook.com/lostkiara Stefanie Smith

Where did he talk about the backup QB? I believe that article you cited (Rap Sheet Rundown) is partially about Mike McCoy but is a summary of a bunch of stuff going on around the NFL.

The QB section is about these back up QBs making a lot of cash, i.e Cassel, Fitzpatrick, Hasselback.

        Thanks Vibe killer..

I love the excitement that these running backs bring to the sport. Makes me look forward to 3rd downs! Stats can’t measure the intangibles that an athlete brings to the field or locker room, but following are some interesting numbers for this dynamic bunch.

    Ray Rice 5′-8″ 199 lbs., 40 yd. 4.42, bench 23 reps., vertical leap 31.5 in., shuttle 4.20

    LaMichael James 5′-8″ 194 lbs., 40 yd. 4.45, bench 15 reps., vertical leap 35 in., shuttle 4.12

    Darren Sproles 5′-6″ 187 lbs., 40 yd. 4.47, bench 23 reps., vertical leap 33 in., shuttle 3.96

Danny Woodhead 5′-8″ 200 lbs., 40 yd. 4.33, bench 20 reps., vertical leap 38.5 in., pro agility 4.03.

Woodhead graduated a math major with a 3.72 GPA.

I can’t wait to see this bunch light it up again this year.
