2013 NFL Mock Draft: The San Diego Chargers Select…

It has been a bit since we checked in with the FanSided NFL Mock draft to see what will be happening around our selection at 11. Since free agency has changed the landscape a little bit, I figured it would be good to check back in and see if anything has changed with our selection.

With the 11th pick in the 2013 NFL Draft, the San Diego Chargers select…

11. San Diego Chargers – Lane Johnson, OT/Oklahoma
Thanks to some great Senior Bowl practices, Oklahoma’s Lane Johnson is rising up draft boards at a pretty quick rate and due to some names dropping out he could go higher than expected. Jake Matthews and Taylor Lewan deciding to return to college means there’s a lack of supply for the high demand of offensive tackles at the top of the NFL Draft. San Diego is going to want to protect Philip Rivers and that starts with improving the offensive line.

In the mock draft, left tackles Luke Joeckel and Eric Fisher were selected 1st and 2nd overall. If that happens in April, I guarantee that Lane Johnson will not last till pick 11. Someone will jump in front of the Chargers to make that selection. I am sure that the Miami Dolphins would want to leap frog the Chargers after losing Jake Long to the St Louis Rams.

I am not as opposed to taking Lane Johnson as I was a few weeks ago though. We need a left tackle and if Johnson can lock it down, I will take that chance. We need so much help on the offensive line, that I will take anyone!

I’m with you man, change of heart on Lane. Dudes a beast if we can get him then awesome. But like you said if Fisher/Joeckel go #1 n #2 then the Eagles might grab him at 4 or the Jets/Bills/Titans. I’m really curious to see how it plays out, if they are all gone I wonder what the plan is? Some mocks have Phillips replacement at the #11 like Jordan (which would be great too, he can cover WR’s and pass rush and brings serious speed element we are lacking) Man can’t wait for the draft!

yea… this is going to be interesting… last season we all knew we were looking at a pass rusher, now we are up for anyone. just anyone

lets not forget Arizona in the mix for OL

I think lane Johnson will be gone. The chargers should draft chance warmack and if he off the board then Jonathan cooper or a CB if cooper off the board as well.

As of now I don’t care who we get as long as its the best player available just like Telesco said. Telesco knows what hes doing so whoever he picks I’m sure we all won’t be disappointed.

i am with you on that…. if Jarvis Jones is there… i wouldn;t mind us going in that direction either… would be NUTS

It sure sounds like Joeckel & Fisher are to be taken really quickly, if the chargers want Johnson it sure sounds like race between them and the Dolphins, to remind everyone the Dolphins have 2 2nd rounders & 2 3rd rounders. I don’t like the chargers chances at winning a trade up race.

i wouldn’t want to trade up anyway… i would love Johnson, but we need some of those draft picks

It certainly isn’t a preference if Johnson isn’t there at 11, I would prefer to trade down take one of the guards in the middle of the first round, and take someone like Barrett Jones (who played LT and won the Outland as a junior) in the second round.

The chargers will either select Lane Johnson or Chance Warmack. Warmack will be available because the titans already got there OG via FA
