Antwan Barnes Signs With New York Jets

Former San Diego Chargers OLB Antwan Barnes has decided to head East and join up with Antonio Garay and the New York Jets. Barnes is a pass rushing specialist and would have been a good player to keep on the roster for depth purposes. He would have been good to use behind Jarret Johnson off of the bench, but now we have to rely on Larry English or some other dude off the streets. Darryl Gamble?

Here is Antwan tweeting out his plan of attack:

We still need help pass rushing on defense. I think Larry English will surprise some people on defense with the added playing time, but still don’t know if he can stay healthy enough to chase after the quarterback. Hopefully Melvin Ingram can provide the heat on some QBs with his added playing time also.

Man Bolt news is getting boring, maybe they are out scouting the best area league players lol

Darn it! I was really hoping we would keep him, despite a slow performance last season. Guess it’s next man up… Larry English (Yikes). Hope he can shake the “bust” title with some more playing time = /

OK… shaking it off…. let’s get some good news today.. some good signings… no whammy, no whammy, no whammy.. STOP!!!!

hahahaha. dont know if they will get anything done at the start of the owners meetings… maybe tomorrow

    • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

but then again… jets signed Barnes..

  • RussinSactown

Well OK then. Are we officially blowing the team up? We are starting with a new roster. And we seem to be going bargain basement on the FA signings but I’m relying on the belief that Tom is not just playing GM but actually being a GM.

    • http://www.facebook.com/pete.spinning Pete Spinning

It’s getting close to a complete blow-up, isn’t it? Not that I’m particularly angry about any of the players who were let go… But, it would be nice to see some decent replacements.
I wasn’t of the opinion that Vasquez was that great anyway. I remember seeing quite a few posts from fans over the last 2 years saying that Vasquez is “a mediocre lineman”, when fans were discussing our O-Line. Suddenly, now that we are cutting players, it’s like everyone 180′d,. Now, he’s “a great player, who we can’t afford to lose”!!! The one post I remember clearly was when Gruden said Vasquez was an “up-n-comer, with great upside”.on MNF. There was about a page and a half of fan comments saying that Gruden “is an idiot, and says that about everyone, and Vasquez is a stop-gap at best.. and, I can’t believe he thinks he’s a good player”. Funny how the tides change when FA hits.. lol.

Best thing I can say is this, when accepting its a rebuilding situation you know you are probably getting worse in the short run, situation I equate to going on a diet. Its good for you, but its no fun while you are doing it, and there is no guarantee it will be a short process, and that it may even extend to several years, if the wrongs decisions are taken.

        • http://www.facebook.com/lostkiara Stefanie Smith

At one of McCoy’s press conferences, he said we would be contenders in the “next ten years:. Nothing like coming to town and getting the job done.

They want to move slow, because that gives them job security. Spanos better tell them to get the butt in gear and do it in 2-3 years.

We pushed for Spanos to can Smith and Norv because we missed the playoffs and didn’t even have a .500 season. Now we are supposed to just go along with crap playing and losing games because they call it “rebuilding”? No. Not acceptable.

      • RussinSactown

I see it this way. Telesco is taking a long term approach. He has to. I mean who could he get with our cap numbers who would have turned this team into playoff contenders this year? Rebuilding must happen and while it’s a shame that we’ll waste a year or two of PR’s career doing it, it needed to be done. And if we go in the tank for a couple years then so be it. All I ask is that we have a plan for coming out of it.

  • Sergio Quintero

I’m hoping for 10 wins, but clearly I wouldn’t be surprised by a drop to 5-6 wins, clearly they are taking a big picture, long term approach.

    • Preston Niedert

I agree this little youth movement is going to cost the chargers a lot of wins I wouldn’t be suprised if the chargers go 8-8 or 5-11. The chargers are rubulding and by the time they right the ship it will be too late for rivers. Thinking long term is great but what about the vetreans that don’t have the time to wait look at the broncos there all in and chances are they could win it all or lose it all I’m not saying we should follow that path but at what point do the chargers say we want to win three years down the road or next season. Look at the divison the broncos and chiefs have gotten better and the faiders are trying to right there ship do the chargers have time to rebulid or can they compete with the broncos or chiefs now that’s the qustion?

      • Sergio Quintero

I don’t want the long term rebuild, I believe if you truly spend on that Oline Rivers will be an elite QB again, and with a good defense that can be great, there is true possibility to make the playoffs, but there is good chance this will be a wasted season for Rivers, and that is a shame.

        • Preston Niedert

That’s my point the chargers are wasting rivers prime with a rebulding phase and gates as well as it stands now the chargers could win a wildcard spot.

          • Sergio Quintero

I’m there with you, but have you seen anything that doesn’t scream rebuilding and step backwards??

          • Preston Niedert

The oline and cutting players evertime the chargers cut a player they make a new hole and the chargers already had holes to begin with there only making it wrose and that’s on the defences side the offences side is no better the oline has four holes and the WR spots needs an upgrade and a true number one WR and the backup QB spot needs to be upgrade as well

          • http://www.facebook.com/lostkiara Stefanie Smith

This is when I get worked up. Dismantling everything is not making it better. “Rebuilding” is an excuse word. Every new management that comes in anywhere says that. It buys them time.

They better win more than 5 or 6, because fans will not put up with years of this.

          • Preston Niedert

Chagers fans are tired of losing and the charges haven’t been to the playoffs three years now and by the looks of thing this year could year four we don’t make the playoffs

        • http://www.facebook.com/lostkiara Stefanie Smith

They better work with what they have and make it better. Baloney on this “rebuilding” deal.

          • Sergio Quintero

Agree with you, it smells like a rebuild, looks like a rebuild, get ready for a 5-6 win team. I’m sure having a hard time convincing myself on renewing my season tickets.

  • http://www.facebook.com/lostkiara Stefanie Smith

Sergio is right. We don’t need a full rebuild. I have no clue who is coming up with this, Fix the o-line. That would be an improvement. Why is it that everyone for years have danced around that?

  • http://www.facebook.com/lostkiara Stefanie Smith

They pay all this money to Cox, but can’t resign Antwan Barnes? okay, then. This is starting to get me mad. Not everyone on our team, prior to the Telesco, McCoy, Whisenhunt arrival, was lousy.

Starts to look like they aren’t even really checking out the team–just letting them all go.
