The San Diego Chargers have signed a backup runningback today by picking up New England Patriots RB Danny Woodhead. We picked him up for a couple of seasons to help carry the load.
I really like this signing. Woodhead will be used as a 3rd down back and will be another option for Philip Rivers to use in the passing game. Woodhead will also get plenty of carries if Ryan Mathews goes down with his normal injury issues. I am sure that the Chargers will also look to add a rookie in the draft to the roster as well.
Woodhead is a mini sized runningback that runs hard. 5-foot-8, but will fight for first downs and can catch passes out of the backfield.
That is what this offseason is all about! Get Philip weapons! Woodhead is another weapon we have that can run the football and can also be lined up in the slot. A versatile option for Mike McCoy on offense.
I am stoked. Tom Telesco keeps making smart moves to add talent on the roster.
We still need offensive linemen, a middle linebacker, a strong safety and a nose tackle, but we are making steps in the right direction. Can Eric Winston be the next signing please?
Last season, Woodhead ran for 301 yards and 4 touchdowns and also had 446 receiving yards with 3 receiving touchdowns. How many touchdowns did Ryan have again? Mini goal line back?
