Chargers Re-Sign RB Ronnie Brown to 1-Year Deal

This is a little head scratcher for me. The San Diego Chargers re-signed Ronnie Brown for another year after signing Danny Woodhead to a 2-year deal. Both players, Brown and Woodhead, have a very similar skill sets. Woodhead is the better one of the two, but how does Coach McCoy plan on using them both.

Ronnie Brown struggled running the football with the Chargers, but so did everyone else on the roster. He did do well as an option in the passing game for Philip Rivers though. Ryan Mathews, Danny Woodhead and Ronnie Brown are the 3 guys holding down the runningback spot on the roster.

It’s a veteran and we do know that Ryan does get hurt a lot. I still hope the team looks to the draft to find someone else that can help the guys out carrying the football. I don’t see Ronnie Brown as a possible starter for Ryan when he goes down. Bring in a Le’Veon Bell in the draft or something to take some carries away. Mike McCoy will have plenty of options back there.

Depth and experience is all. He wont be used much unless absolutely necessary. Cheap veteran back up at this point.

i wouldnt be surprised to see him actually get cut in training camp too… he is more looked at as a camp body right now… invite to spring training type deal

      • kris

        exactly my thought as well.

      • Preston Niedert

I heard dumervil was cut by the broncos now that’s a head scratcher when his agent didnt file the paper work by deadline

        • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

hahahaha… i know right. that is awesome

          • Preston Niedert

What happens to dumervil now to bad we couldn’t sign would be nice to see dumervil sack Payton manning and he goes down with a injury

          • tubbs45

My oh my that would be nice. I’d take harrison on a cheaper 1 yr deal too. We need killers

The longer Pollard sits, the more realistic his price would be.

          • tubbs45

Pollard will be much cheaper than Dumervil, but Harrision and pollard will be close price wise.

          • tubbs45

I have been pushing for pollard… Maybe he isn’t such a good choice: http://wp.me/p14QSB-7CuM

I’m not sure word was he visted but left with out a deal

Agree. Need good depth at rb. He’s useful as passing-down guy for protection & good recvr. Could lose rb’s to injury even in training camp; best to sign now with more available & asking prices are already dropping. Can always cut later & if need to bring back will know the new Playbook.

  • Rob Base

Maybe using him for blocking ability also? Your right it is a head scratcher.

  • Supercharger77

Low risk sign and I’m sure they still pick up somebody in the draft. Need another lineman bring back Alexander

    • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

BRING BACK ALEXANDER!!!! needs to happen

      • tubbs45

Seriously, I know we’ll draft a WR or two, but we need a sure thing, even if injury prone.

    • http://www.facebook.com/lostkiara Stefanie Smith

No one likes this guy, but he is a jewel. Seriously, a nice guy and wants to do well for the Chargers. Wish some had this attitude. We could do a lot worse.

      • Ignatius

I agree. He’s a good team player and does what he’s asked to do. A good insurance when Ryan goes down.

  • NateLew

I seriously doubt Brown makes the 53 man roster. Probably insurance if we can’t find a nice mid round steal, one of the 3 L’s, Leveon , Lacy or Lattimore haha.

    • http://www.facebook.com/pete.spinning Pete Spinning

I’m down with that.. All we had for most of last season was the 3 B’s… Brown, Battle, and Brinkley. Lol. Any one of those draft backs will work.

    • Joey Nicks

Funny enough Lattimore (when he was healthy) was compared to LT. Wouldn’t that shock the NFL! What about a Montee Ball

  • boltingindiego

this signing was made because they don’t want to choose a rb b4 round 5 we have lots of needs to address 1st.

    • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

      truth

    • tbell11

They probably brought back Brown because if Mathews gets injured, they’ll still have the depth. But also need to draft a RB.

  • tubbs45

Nice over throw Rivers (see picture). Maybe thats why we brought in King Dunlap, Red Zone Receiver.

    • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

hahahahahha… dunlap woulda caught that ball!

    • http://www.facebook.com/lostkiara Stefanie Smith

I think Fozzie is the RB we signed with the bad arm.

    • DougM

Philip probably threw that from his back anyway.

  • Cgoodness13

Maybe we run the T formation or split back with brown and woodhead
