Denver Broncos Trying To Hammer Out Deal With Wes Welker. We Are Screwed

The Denver Broncos are in serious talks to destroying the AFC West and the rest of the AFC. The Broncos are trying to hammer out a contract with WR Wes Welker right now and there should be a decision made later today, per Adam Schefter.

Could you imagine the Broncos with Wes Welker, Demayrius Thomas and Eric Decker as their receivers with Peyton Manning pulling the trigger? That sounds like a pair of losses a season for our Chargers, especially with our dwindled down secondary.

The deal has not been completed just yet, so PRAY, cross your fingers or do whatever you can in order to prevent this thing from happening. This division is just getting tougher and tougher as free agency goes on. This free agency is not fun.

I would hate to see Wes Welker head in that direction! Should we just give them the trophy now?

Wes FREAKING Welker?!!?! How do the Broncos even have cap space in order to make some of these things happen? There is some sort of genius working over there in Denver. They are built to win now and are making the moves to win that Super Bowl.

Now things suck all over again!

Hey, we are looking for bargains and doing the “looking for a diamond” at the bottom of the can routine. I just got a knot in my stomach when I read about Welker.

We could have been doing what Denver is doing, but nooooo.. I don’t know, but you have to fight fire with fire when it comes to the competition. Or match what they are doing –something. We throw King Dunlap at them?

Is the management just chucking this next season and planning for a run in year 5 or what?

    • JoseSD

King Dunlap is not gonna start. The Broncos have Manning, a great O line, good rushing game with Mcgahee, already two very talented receivers in Decker and Thomas, a decent secondary, fierce pass rush with Miller/Dumervil and were the number 1 seed in the Playoffs. The Chargers have none of these things. Stop expecting them to make a huge move that will turn the team around, its not gonna happen they have too many needs and not enough cap space. This is at the least a two offseason rebuilding project. It would be a pleasant surprise if they make the playoffs next year but I’m not counting on it

      • http://www.facebook.com/lostkiara Stefanie Smith

I was being snippy with the King Dunlap comment, but come on… this is how they are gearing up? And after all the cuts, yeah, we have cap room…enough to do something.

        • JoseSD

Not really, they still have to sign whoever they draft and after picking up these last two they’re probably down to 14mil. Vasquez is getting paid 6 mil a year by the broncos which they would have to beat for him to stay.if Alexander stays that’s another 1.5 mil minimum, And they still need to find at least 1 veteran CB capable of starting, another OLB since Barnes and Philips probably arent coming back and maybe sign a SS or a MLB to play next to Butler, they’re really isn’t much money to go around, you can thank AJ Smith for that

    • Sergio Quintero

Sad fact Denver is going to be elite for the next 2 years at least, and there is good chance SD is taking the one step back to get 3 steps better approach, so until proven otherwise get ready for about 5-6 win season.

      • nate lew

You’re acting like there’s no one left to sign today or tomorrow or for weeks until the draft. PLUS the draft, there’s a ton of ways to improve the offensive line before any games are won or lost. You really think TT can’t find us a better offensive line this year? You think our starting corners are going to both be ranked outside the top 100 in PFF’s rating? There’s a ton of areas we can improve from last year and a ton of opportunity so don’t give up already.

        • http://www.facebook.com/lostkiara Stefanie Smith

No one is giving up yet. But basically, the moves that have been made really are not great. In fact, losing Vasquez made it worse.
And we had the cap space to get something done with Vasquez.

          • JoseSD

Let’s not kid ourselves Vasquez was an above average pass blocker especially since he came from the Spread System at Texas Tech. But he was a very bad run blocker. It would have been nice if Aj locked him up two years ago at a lower cost or even last season but to get real its not like we’re losing a great Guard like Bruce Mathews or Larry Allen he probably didn’t fit well into the zone blocking scheme, David Molk might be better playing Guard in a zone system

        • Sergio Quintero

The chargers seem to be taking a clean the cap, purge bad contracts attitude, a slow steady approach, and many times the first year in that plan is a step back in wins. And in terms of Denver, their talent level is comparable to the 2006 chargers if they can get Welker, its just different moments in a team’s cycle. I guess this is how the rest of the teams in the AFC west felt toward the chargers from 2006-2009.

Hey hopefully they do a great job in rebuilding the Oline and we get Rivers back 08-11 production level, I’m just looking at that Denver, and looking at ours. Theirs looks like 11-14 win club, ours looks like a 5-8 win club, hopefully they sign some guys that we can realistically can win 9-10 games.

  • Preston Niedert

Manning to Welker that’s just great I hope we sign a CB that can complete with Eric dercker, demaryius Thomas and Wes Welker we better sign two very good CB then.

  • nate lew

I support the deal, personally think this could generously fuck them over if they’re throwing 10+ mill at him yearly. If our secondary isn’t entirely fixed this year which I’m expecting I think Welker might have one or two effective years left. Manning excels with slot wr’s but I don’t think Thomas and Decker takes as much pressure off the slot as Gronk and Hernandez do. He’s coming to a new team and still relying on speed as undersized 32 yo.

  • RussinSactown

I’m not conceding the division to them yet. He’s a workhorse in the slot but there’s a reason they were ready to let him leave Foxboro. People who leave the New England system are generally not as dangerous as advertised

    • TheReturnOfMrBlanks

I agree man, plus Wes drops passes in big games and Peyton most of the times chokes in the playoffs….might be a good pairing.

      • JoseSD

I think Peyton has the most playoff loses than any other quarterback in history. He does tend to come up short when his team needs him

  • Joey Nicks

Well, all of a sudden Clowny isn’t too far off. Lol if this happens we might be done. The important thing is though that we build a successful young team. Lets face it we are getting older. We need to save money and create some space and develop through the draft. I wish it didn’t take years off my life! Lol

    • http://www.facebook.com/lostkiara Stefanie Smith

Then we might as well let Rivers go, because he doesn’t have years while we go through another rebuilding, retooling, rethinking,… whatever they are calling it now.

      • TheReturnOfMrBlanks

Trade him for a 1st rounder and Draft Johnny Football next year? I’d rather have Clowney though

        • http://www.facebook.com/lostkiara Stefanie Smith

We really wasted Rivers. It’s embarrassing.

          • Brandon Rios

Trading Rivers doesn’t seem so bad today huh.

          • JoseSD

He’s only 30 years old Brady is 35 or 36 hes still going strong and just signed an extension, Philip isn’t at the end of his career yet

        • veazy

Dude would be badass to have in the Chargers. Rivers is one of the slowest QBs I know of, but Manziel makes everybody look slow.

  • Sergio Quintero

This is what all in look like, their cap should look awful in 2015, but if they have Lombardi trophy I’m sure they would be more than happy with the trade off.

    • boltingindiego

yep broncos are putting all their bullets in this year for the trophy especially with decker being a free agent next year and then thomas the year after

  • ECAVILLE/Ace of Spades

I am not scared at all. Broncos want to fly like Eagles, let them. Chargers will fly under the radar and char the competition with lightning strikes.

  • TheReturnOfMrBlanks

Bolts signings have been so impressive they don’t even appear on NFL trade rumors lol

  • http://www.facebook.com/pete.spinning Pete Spinning

A pair of losses is definitely possible. We also have the second easiest shedule in the NFL… not that it means guaranteed wins, but it is a good year for us to have a shot at an easy schedule, regardless.

    • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

Part of that easy schedule was two games against an improving Chiefs team

    • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

At least we can counter those two losses with wins against the Raiders… But so could everyone else in our division… Sigh

      • http://www.facebook.com/pete.spinning Pete Spinning

LOL… It might be a rough year, it might not. I was just trying to coax some people off of the ledge. Denver was already going to be almost impossible to beat before any talk of the Welker signing. I’m not convinced that KC will be better than us. Oakland actually has draft picks this year, so that is a move in the right direction I guess… but I’m not betting that the rank of the AFC West will change this year. It will probably be the same order as last year. We just need to close out a few more games this year. I can count at least 3 close games where we could have won…. if we didn’t crap out at the end, or get Norv’d.

  • http://www.facebook.com/lostkiara Stefanie Smith

We are supposed to win games now, not tomorrow, not next season, or not in three years. These guys earn a paycheck, and I am sure it is a hefty one.. They better have a plan to win some games THIS season and get those stands filled. No baloney with rebuilding or anything else. It’s called an excuse.

I can’t speak for any of you, but every screwed up thing they do cannot be written off as, “oh, uhh we’re rebuilding.”.

    • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

If we aren’t trying to win today, then we should trade Philip PERIOD!

      • http://www.facebook.com/lostkiara Stefanie Smith

Hey, I really am getting nauseous. You don’t think these guys are trying to trade Rivers, do you?

        • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

hahahaha… no. dont think they are.

          • http://www.facebook.com/lostkiara Stefanie Smith

Whew.. Now I am getting delusional.

          • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

hahahaha… that was a bit delusional

          • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

at least you didn’t write a post saying we should trade Gates!

          • http://www.facebook.com/lostkiara Stefanie Smith

lol. That was one of your wilder days. You were pushing the Gates trade. I got a visual that mobs were lighting torches trying to figure out where you lived for that one!

          • http://www.facebook.com/pete.spinning Pete Spinning

Hahaha! That made me laugh. With you, not at you.

          • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

            :)

    • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

we were supposed to have a good day today! welp…

      • http://www.facebook.com/lostkiara Stefanie Smith

I know. Chargers are giving me an ulcer. lol

  • Rob Base

Who cares he’s not as good as he used to be! They will pay big money and it could and could not pay off.

  • Pels04

i just threw up in my mouth a little.

  • http://www.facebook.com/pete.spinning Pete Spinning

As for trading Rivers… still a horrible idea… please chile!!!!

    • http://www.facebook.com/lostkiara Stefanie Smith

I don’t seriously want Rivers to go, but you have to wonder what these management guys are thinking.

      • http://www.facebook.com/pete.spinning Pete Spinning

It was a general post, not targeted at you realy. But I know you don’t want to trade him. I am just glad they took out the garbage.. even if it left some holes. I’d rather have rookies learning, then have a bunch of overpaid average players that weren’t getting the job done, year after year. It took guts to make those cuts. I applaud them for that, because the fan reaction is NEVER going to be good. It’s necessary though. I still think we are going to have a more productive FA than last year… watch. (Not that it would be hard to do.. last years signings were awful!). Be patient = )

  • tbell11

Looks like I found my Fantasy QB lol

  • Pels04

Welker is a Bronco per Schefter

  • Sergio Quintero

yikes Welker has signed with Broncos:

    https://twitter.com/AlbertBreer/status/311942898990067712

  • Raymundo

Welker is getting old. He doesn’t have the speed or the hands he had two yrs ago. Along with old man Manning and retread Mcgahee, their SB Champs’ window is small but I admire they way they’re improving their team and getting guys on the cheap. Lets face it, we need to improve our secondary and draft another pass rusher to rattle Peyton.

    • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

Yea.. They have 2 years to try and win. We will be back up with a good draft
