The San Diego Chargers have made their first move of this big, big free agency filled day. The Chargers have released TE Randy McMichael, per Adam Schefter.
McMichael was a favorite of Norv Turner and I wouldn’t doubt seeing the Cleveland Browns have interest in the veteran tight end. Releasing McMichael frees up $1.5M in cap space for that HUGE signing that the Chargers will be making later today (could be sarcasm or not, but probably sarcasm).
Now the San Diego Chargers can give a little more playing time to the youngster Ladarius Green. Green and Antonio Gates are the only two tight ends on the roster now. The Chargers will be on the market for another tight end, but that player will likely be stuck behind Green and Gates on the depth chart.
The Chargers are still expected to release DT Antonio Garay as well, which would save the team another $5M in salary cap room. Stay tuned as we will try to keep up with all the fast and furious action from free agency Tuesday. It should be a holiday today!
