San Diego Chargers Find A New Tackle For Philip: OT King Dunlap

I fot yo back Philip… Mandatory Credit: Howard Smith-USA TODAY Sports

The San Diego Chargers have signed an offensive tackle. They have signed former Philadelphia Eagles offensive tackle King Dunlap. Dunlap can play on the left side or right side and had been pushed to the bench a couple of times while with Philly. He isn’t a top name in free agency, but he will provide some sort of help on the offensive line. He can’t be worse than Mike Harris.

Dunlap took over for Marcus McNeill at left tackle at Auburn and now he could be the guy taking over his position in San Diego. Signing Dunlap will open up some options for the San Diego Chargers in the draft. If they want to draft a guard at pick 11, we can use Dunlap and maybe Jared Gaither at left tackle and can use Jeromey Clary over at right tackle.

We could choose Chance Warmack or Jonathan Cooper at pick 11 to fill the hole that was left by Louis Vasquez. I wish we could choose both of them at pick 11! Two for one deal? BOGO?

The Chargers now have holes at both guard spots on the offensive line. Dunlap isn’t exactly the best solution at tackle, but he is someone that can give us options. At least he won’t fake injuries. I still would have rather signed Max Starks from the Steelers. We  can still do that Tom!

Think we should focus o line in free agency and cb in the draft

  • RussinSactown

Must have been a cheap signing. Let’s hope they have a couple more line signings up their sleeve.

    • tbell11

All we know is its a 2yr deal.

      • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

cant imagine this being that pricey

  • http://www.facebook.com/lostkiara Stefanie Smith

Yes, he can provide help. That is why Vick got sacked a million times.

  • tbell11

Doesn’t he have an injury history

  • http://www.facebook.com/uri.ortega.7 Uri Ortega

    Would they consider nandi

  • Rob Base

    Lame lame lame!!

  • Cgoodness13

All I know is, eagles o line was bad, but not as bad as ours, and they had a scrambling qb…

  • TheReturnOfMrBlanks

Sounds ok to me, man didn’t he struggle to protect Vick all the time and get benched here and there? He’s better then Harris and he’s a huge diude but literally anyone is better then Harris because he was dead last lol.

    • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

      yup

    • RussinSactown

At least Harris showed up. More than you can say about Big Lazy.

  • Cgoodness13

From what I understand, max Starks is still available, if we can ink him and another guard, we will be set

  • TheReturnOfMrBlanks

How many sacks did he give up last year? cant find that anywhere

    • TheReturnOfMrBlanks

lol Listen too this angry Eagles fan bash King all over the place, he’s rough rough on him. If you like cussing watch this:

Figures. Just the kinda guy the Chargers look for. Pathetic. Ah well. Whadaya gonna do? Who knows, maybe the salt air will help make him worth a crap.

  • tubbs45

    good lord…

Here is a comment by an Eagles fan about this King Dunlap signing with the Chargers: “They must really hate poor Rivers.”

    over this day…

    • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

today was supposed to be fun!

  • NativeSanDiegan

He’s a body, that’s all. Hopefully won’t start. Starks could still be signed along with guards. Shouldn’t affect draft in my opinion. Like Tom said, it’s too bad draft doesn’t come before FA (if you’re trying to build thru the draft). Chargers can still cut him in training camp, but for now he may fill a spot or provide some semblance of depth. Personally, I don’t want him as my starter.

    • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

i don’t want him as my starter either!

      • Preston Niedert

I don’t want him no whare near Phillip rivers blindside.

  • NativeSanDiegan

Maybe he can be coached up (something Norv’s regime never heard of, but Patriots often do). However, I’m not holding my breath.

    • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

      we can only hope

PLEASE!!! NO MORE MATADORS!!! Real O Lineman that can play please….

  • http://www.facebook.com/lostkiara Stefanie Smith

This is what they figured had to get done today? This was top urgency free agency signings? Come on now. There was no need to sign this guy today. Mean no disrespect to Mr. Dunlap. But what were they thinking? This doesn’t even sound like someone with experience.

Out of the blue, these are the signings they thought would help the Chargers to win games. Somebody is messed up somewhere. They could have signed these guys months from now.

Is telesco sabotaging the team and skipping town.

  • Ignatius

I don’t about this signing, it doesn’t seem to be an upgrade to whomever is on the team even beleaguered Mike Harris whom did a decent job after he was practically “forced” into a starting position. Until now, he has played in 52 games and started in 20 after he was drafted in the seventh round of the 2009 draft, obviously he has some experience but I think he’s going to be more of a spot player than a starter.
