Today is the day that the San Diego Chargers are finally releasing DT Antonio Garay. It has been mentioned for over a week and he has probably been known since he signed the contract that he would be getting released this offseason, but today is the official release date, per Ian Rapoport.
Garay is the prankster in the office that messes with your computer monitor and your cubicles if you call in sick. He is the big dude that drives a Hello Kitty Smart Car because it just seems like the crazy thing to do. He is the dude that has the same hair dresser as Dennis Rodman, but likely doesn’t rebound like the worm and I don’t know if I see Garay heading out to Korea anytime soon either.
Garay was stuck on the healthy inactive list a lot to start out the season and eventually found time to see some action later in the year when players started getting hurt. He played at nose tackle and defensive end, but wasn’t much of a force last season. He is a leader in the locker room and has a lot of respect from the youngsters on that defensive line. I could see a scenario where he signs back on the team for a cheap contract.
