OT Eric Winston Visited the Chargers This Weekend

It looks like the San Diego Chargers are interested in OT Eric Winston. According to Adam Schefter, Winston visited the Chargers over the weekend.

Winston plays right tackle and could be brought in as a possible replacement for Jeromey Clary. We know how much of a fan favorite Clary is. Winston comes from the zone blocking scheme that it seems that the Chargers are gearing up for. He helped pave the way for Arian Foster in Houston and could help Ryan Mathews get some running room.

Winston joined Kansas City last season, but he didn’t fit into Andy Reid’s plans. The Chiefs own the top draft pick this year and will probably take a tackle.

This is a name we actually know. I’m sure Telesco has seen a lot of him while they were in the same division. Winston would be nice, but still doesn’t fix the guard and left tackle position.

This is what I’m talking about. Move clary to right guard, cut Gaither, and bring Levitre. Draft lane Johnson and the o-line is that much better. I got a good feeling about tomorrow and Wednesday. Can’t wait.

      I love the optimism

    • e money

Clary is garbage.. Needs to go!

    • Brandon Rios

They need to move Clary out of the Chargers organization.

      • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

If you had to keep one: Gaither or clary?

        • boltingindiego

gaither not playing is better than clary playing. plus if we actually cut clary we would save cap space.

        • Preston Niedert

Clary hands down but not by a long shot. The big lazy to me Burned to many bridges in my book

        • Cgoodness13

Gaither has potential, and if he’s cut, we can kiss our cap room goodbye

  • Supercharger77

Ernie I think everybody needs some to get ready for the new era! Telesco will work some magic. I wouldn’t be surprised to hear garay cut in the morning to make cap room.

    • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

It makes sense… Ready to have that feel good feeling I had when we signed these guys again

  • Rob Base

Hmmm well see what happens tomorrow.

    • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

I am wondering why he came but didn’t leave with a contract… He can sign now

      • Rob Base

Weighing out his options or wasn’t offered a good deal

        • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

Probably weighing his options… Sure we didn’t blow him away with an offer also

  • tbell11

I thought Winston is too pricey for us? Don’t get me wrong I would love to have him, but I don’t think we could afford him. Like the rumors though with this and the CB’s were interested in, nice start.

    • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

Yea… Don’t know if it works, but would love to see it happen

  • e money

We better cut clary if we sign Winston!!

  • Preston Niedert

If he visited San Diego that saids alot and he can still sign. If he does that would mean we ether cut clary or move him over to RG and sign levitre and draft lane Johnson at LT then sign a RB like shonn Greene to pick up the slack if and when mathews goes he down.

    • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

Then boom!!! I feel the anticipation building

    • 619chargers4life

that would be awesome to see

  • JoseSD

As long as they cut clary im all for it

  • 619chargers4life

yay some actual FA news coming from chargers park . about time lol

    • Preston Niedert

It’s about time we hear free agents news. Any news on Vasquez word on the street was the chargers haven’t even offered him a contract and its almost free agency what is going on I smell a smoke screen.

      • 619chargers4life

smoke screen maybe . but vasquez already said he wants to test the market. we all know by that alone he wont return. lucky if he does. i expect huge changes across the board. im no where near expecting a playoff run the way things are going. AJ left us in the dirt. it is what it is, and being a die hard fan my whole life all i can say is, whats new lol where all just waiting and wishing and praying lol i love being a chargers fan lol i freakin love it . Go Bolts

I know most Bolt fans don’t wanna hear this but I truly believe Telesco & McCoy are gonna Keep Gaither. Vasquez seems to be their priority. I’m expecting either an OG or defensive player picked at 11.

    • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

They better find a good backup for him

      • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1672216122 Daryl Peek

Given the change to a zone blocking scheme I think they will roll with Harris as his back up. I wanna see Troutman and Molk also.

        • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

Ugh.. Think Harris is better suited on the right side or moved to guard

          • TheReturnOfMrBlanks

Harris can go to another team he’s not so good. How does Winston rate vs. Clarey? Big upgrade or just a tad? Also the Cheifs are going to know all of dudes weaknesses and exploit him all over the place on game day.

          • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

I think he is an upgrade… He comes from a zone blocking scheme and it really seems we are moving in that direction. If we sign him, then there is no doubt we go that way. And that is why we would rather get Levitre over Vasquez too. Changing that scheme around

    • Preston Niedert

I think they keep gaither because he cost to much to cut and draft chance warmack or Jonathan cooper because warmack might be off the board how much would it be to cut gaither in 2014
