The New Free-Agency Negotiation Window Begins Tonight

At 9pm tonight, the San Diego Chargers and the rest of the league will get their opportunity to talk with agents for players that are becoming free agents. Let’s see what Tom Telesco has in his bag of tricks. The preparations are already starting to begin by releasing players like Takeo Spikes sand Atari Bigby.

Here are some of the rules of this new negotiating window:

• Contact is restricted to a team and an agent. A player under contract to one team through Tuesday cannot talk with another team.

• A player who doesn’t have an agent — Baltimore safety Ed Reed handles his own affairs — isn’t allowed to talk with a team until Tuesday.

• Player visits are not allowed until 1 p.m. Tuesday. Players who have been released — offensive tackle Eric Winston, defensive end John Abraham — are free to visit and sign at any time.

Once Tuesday hits, the San Diego Chargers should have a few free agents. They will have to get a qualifying offer in on their restricted free agents before Tuesday also. Danario Alexander is the biggest restricted free agent that needs to get a qualifying offer.

This weekend should have a ton of rumors flying on who the Chargers are talking to. It should be fun.
