San Diego Chargers New Hole To Fill At Middle Linebacker

Let’s get back on topic today…. Move on for the Lebron James and Atlanta Falcons randomness from the morning.

Takeo Spikes has cut and we now added a new hole on the roster that already has a ton of holes. Spikes could have been used as a plug for another season, but his cap money was just too much for the team to swallow. We need to use any resources we can to sign offensive linemen.

With Spikes gone, the San Diego Chargers will need to find a new starter in the middle of the defense. Demorrio Williams could have been a nice fill in, but he is a free agent. Jonas Mouton? Maybe we hand the handlebars off to Bront Bird to steer this thing. Bird filled in nice during his stint as the starter.

Still, we probably should look for an upgrade somewhere. Whether it be through free agency or through the draft.

If Manti Te’o is there in the 2nd round, would you draft him? I wonder if Kirk Morrison is going to play some ball this season?

Any of the good young linebackers are going to cost too much. We might be able to get some of the vets at a discount rate. Te options in free agency just seem thin. Maybe we can bring back players like Brandon Siler or Tim Dobbins. They both are free agents and they both should know John Pagano pretty well.

Well we learned that going with a big talking team leader that put up below mediocre stats is not the route to go for actual winning.

Getting a guy that makes plays, runs for losses, sacks, picks, forced fumbles is what we need. The perfect compliment to Butler….but who would that be? I like Bostic maybe in the 4th round but he might be gone by then.

Imagine a grouping of Ansah – Bostic – Butler – Ingram That would be a freakin force to deal with.

    • Ernie Padaon

hmmm… if we get Ansah, we might just move Melvin inside. Maybe…

      • TheReturnOfMrBlanks

That would be interesting, but do you see JJ starting next year? I kinda hope not, He like Spikes is just plain slow. I also don’t know about drafting 2 more linebackers in our first 4 picks, Ansah worked out for teams as a outside line backer and got great reviews, I also just read he didn’t practice for the combine which is kinda crazy. Having a fast giant on one side and Melvin on the other would worry alot of teams.

i see JJ starting next season…. if it is not JJ, it is Larry English… I may be one of the few people that actually has hope for Larry. Saw a nice bit of energy when Larry was given a chance. His injuries suck and we just wait till he gets hurt again, but if he gets some opportunities, i think he could surprise

Dub J could seal/set the edge, but would like to see Ingram get more snaps…..not buying any hype this upcoming season. Chargers gotta put up or get put out by the rest of the competition….year after year of dissapointment since 79 for me. I pray for a team that can play with some balls…

I loved tim dobbins and siler. I hope we bring back Demorrio Williams he was good. I never really had a good feeling about mouton, he always seemed to be playing at the wrong position for some reason, maybe it was the system, but he just didnt seem to fit.

    • Ernie Padaon

i loved both of them too. wouldnt mind seeing them in the mix

Just because we cut a Free Agent doesn’t mean we have to replace him with one. If I’m the Chargers I pair a nice young ILB like Bostic or Reddick beside Butler and save what remains of the 3 mil to beef up the offensive line.

    • Ernie Padaon

oh definitely agree…. that money has to go to building up the o-line. That’s why the possible free agent replacements that were listed wouldn’t cost too much dough

  • Cgoodness13

We could switch to a 4-3….which would fit our roster the best, McCoy does preach adjusting the system to fit the roster.

    • Preston Niedert

You answered your own qustione. Coach mccoy should have hired anthor def cornaditor then one that is a 4-3 type of guy.

  • Rob Base

    Being back Dobbins!

  • Rob Base

Bring back Dobbins! Damn iPhone spell check lol

  • Daryl Peek

OK, I fully expect to get roasted for this thought process but dammit I got a good gut feeling about it!

Telesco should take a chance on recently cut Faider headcase Rolando McClain… ducks behind the door until friendly fire subsides. *looking*

McClain was a BEAST in 2011; 99 tackles, 5 sacks and 14 passes defended. Yes he’s been an off the field nightmare but I think his older cousin, Le’ron McClain could help him as a teammate mentor. Rolando would be a high reward cheap risk project IMO.

    • Ernie Padaon

hahahah… dont hide.. we will keep it friendly. i wouldnt mind taking a look that way… honestly, we just need football players.

If you are going to get roasted for that, i will get roasted for thinking we should make a run at DJ Williams if the Donkeys cut him loose

There are no holes Ernie. it’s just time for the next young player to step up.
