San Diego Chargers Draft Watch: Tennessee WR Cordarrelle Patterson

This weekend, I fell in love with the idea of drafting a player that actually was not a left tackle. Our draft process started with Eric Fisher as our best possible tackle, then Lane Johnson was the best prospect for our team and now we are just hoping one of the left tackles drops to us. Instead of worrying about a left tackle, we should just sign one and we can start looking at different options with the first pick.

The first non-left tackle prospect I fell in love with as a possibility at the 11 spot is Cordarrelle Patterson. The 6-foot-2 receiver out of Tennessee. He is a big target, had the best high jump at the combine in the receiver group and is a master at make things happen after the catch.

Why wouldn’t you want a weapon like that?

Danario Alexander is our best receiver, but he comes with a long history of injury problems. Can he hold up for the whole season. Our top 3 receivers all have had injury issues. Malcom Floyd. Injury-prone. Vincent Brown. Injury-prone. Who is the next best receiver after Vincent Brown? Micheal SpurlocK? We need to add a little more at the position. We need to add weapons for Philip Rivers.

Cordarelle Patterson would be an instant weapon for Mike McCoy to put into use. Who knows what McCoy thinks of the receivers on the roster. He had some nice options while he was in Denver. He had Eric Decker and Demayrius Thomas at his disposal. When Patterson has space to run, he can make big things happen. He also can be a big target for Philip Rivers to throw the ball up to.

I LOVE THIS GUY!

Sign me a left tackle and select Cordarrelle Patterson with the 11th pick (if he is available).

Just watch the fun that we could have on the football field:

I’m with you 100% and I think Telesco will go the no LT in the first route. Fisher is a freakin Beast but if we can’t get him why settle on Johnson? what has johnson proven ever? I have this strange feeling that once a top tier pass rusher faces him he is going to get schooled. Patterson is pretty nice and I love the weapons if we could replace Floyd with him or Austin that would be pretty sweet. Patterson might be just like DAX but without the Knee issues.

Also i like the way your creating great topic discussions in a charger world of no news, I check out Boltsfromtheblue daily but i think they are kinda absorbed in their TOT postings in which I don’t find comparing past horrible experience’s to be very positive lol and never read them ever. Love your posts on here duder!

thanks brotha… really appreciate that. i see that you love some Ansah as the first pick in the draft. my only question is where would he play. would he take over at outside linebacker or on defensive end. I wouldnt hate getting him either way. just add more firepower to that defense

Ya, I have this problem with watching several guys highlight video’s and wanting all of them on our team lol. I didn’t think much of Austin then watched the video and thought “we need this guy”, same with Patterson/Star L/ and especially Ansah.

Watch Ansah’s video, watch the way he try’s to hurt people when he tackles them, body slams, picking dudes up and half way pile driving them lol I love that. Also after watching his video you can see how fast he reacts to speedy RB’s and chases them down, we don’t have a guy like that. Spikes & JJ once you are close to getting by them you are gone they have no closing speed. I think He has the speed to take Phillip’s spot. Also for as fast and big as he is he could still get more muscular which I think would make him even more Beastly. He looks like a guy that’s only been hitting the weights a year or two.

i see it… he looks mean and wants to beat on people. Dont know why, but that always gets me hyped. I like Star also. If Star ends up down at the 11 pick, that could also fill a need on our team. The nose tackle position could be wide open if we don’t re-sign aubrayo franklin. Star would instantly be the starter and would take up double teams and make big things happen.
