San Diego Chargers Interested in LT Branden Albert?

This is what I want to hear!!!! Big time free agents being mentioned around town. Game changers!

Back in the Pre-Telesco days, we would never hear a name like Branden Albert drop. We would never make a splash in free agency. The biggest free agent we signed was… Robert Meachem? Bob Sanders? Takeo Spikes?

Will we sign a big time player in a position that we have a huge need for? That is yet to be seen, but there definitely is some name dropping going around.

Branden Albert is one of the top left tackles that are available in free agency this season. He also is a member of the Kansas City Chiefs. Stealing a top player from a division rival scores extra points.

Albert would instantly be the starter at left tackle and the team could then put their focus in other areas of need in the draft. Maybe we could draft top WR Cordarrelle Patterson or something! (I will get into that possibility in another post.)

It’s not even that Albert is a big time free agent, but the possibilities brought some excitement. This offseason, there is so much that is unknown from the new guys running the show, but they have said and done good things so far.

Albert can be a step in the right direction. He did have a bad back and that might be a red flag. The last offensive tackle we took from the Chiefs did end up screwing us over. We may need to proceed with caution, but if a good deal could come up then we need to jump in and make something happen.

Still have holes at CB, rather draft their if we get good FA o-lineman

  • Mashuerta

Value at CB & DT can be found in R2. Tavon would be a better receiver: healthier & less drops.

    • Sergio Quintero

I think Stedman Bailey is a better value as 3rd rounder, than Austin as a first (pick 11). The chargers need some speed outside, but until Oline is fixed, the other positions take a back seat.

Again, Ernie our class A editor has put it straight, and I’m with him. God,(or whoever you believe in and serve), Family, and Football. Albert will be one of those that Telesco has to say lets sit and talk. The interview is so important a look into the man your getting. He has to have the same goals, attitude, and look at the future that the rest of the team has. Education, or smarts is so undervalued by alot of fans that don’t understand the math in what it takes to get 53 guys on the same page. He can have all the talent in the world, but if you toss out the other factors he’s usless to the rest of the team. Telesco, I hope has a great idea of team chemistry being more important than the talent of one individual. There’s a huge list of the most talented players who didn’t win a Superbowl, and our now living on hard times. Then there are guys like Trent Dilfer, smart, team oriented, and knows how to win. The Chargers need 53 smart, good football players, that have looked past today and want to win at life. Those are the 53 that will take us to the Superbowl.

Thank you sir for the compliment.

I’d rather have the Chargers draft OT lane johnson in round 1 and sign OG from Buffalo while moving Gaither to RT. Then in round 2 get a CB. Also, draft a RB, LB, S, WR, and K.

But then you would have to hope Lane Johnson lasts that long. Would be taking a chance

      • tbell11

Well the chiefs will take joeckel, the eagles will take jordan, cardinals will land fisher, titans will select warmack, and that leaves johnson available for the chargers

        • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

Everyone and their mama will know we want Johnson. If someone wantsJohnson, they trade up in top 10 somewhere to get him.

          • Sergio Quintero

The Rams for the last 2 draft have wanted a #1 receiver, and JVille jumps ahead of them to take Justin Blackmon, I could easily see a desperate bears team jump ahead of the chargers for Johnson.

Just asked my mom… she has no clue… I think we’re good;)

          • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

            Hahahahaha

        • Sergio Quintero

What happens if Fisher is taken between 2-5, then the plan goes to hell. Arizona takes Johnson at 7, and SD is left holding the bag.
Of maybe overdrafting Menelik Watson at pick 11, hoping he makes it to pick 45, or taking DJ Fluker who is less than ideal as LT. Sign Albert, or the less than ideal Sam Baker or J.Bushrod, but entering the draft with their glaring LT hole, scares me as a fan.

Id rather have a cheapwr starks than pay big for albert

  • http://www.facebook.com/carl.brown2 Carl Brown

I share Acee’s opinion. I very much doubt we drop that kind of cheese on an OT given our limited cap space and many areas of need. Max Starks may be more realistic, but you have also consider that we are moving to a ZBS and a more athletic OT makes more sense.

    • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

Could be… But there still hasn’t been sure commitment to a zone blocking scheme. Last time McCoy was asked about it, he said that he was going to adapt to whatever personnel he has.

      • http://www.facebook.com/carl.brown2 Carl Brown

What else could he say? If I remember correctly The Whiz and his o-line coach are 100% ZBS guys, yes? Seems logical we’ll at least be running some sort of partial or modified ZBS.

        • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

It’s true.. It could be partial ZBS. I love the idea that they will adapt no matter what. Whisenhunt was power blocking while with the Steelers.

        • Sergio Quintero

What personnel does he have for sure anyway, beyond Hardwick I’m certain of nothing. You can actually draft for a scheme as it stands right now.
