Atlanta Falcons Release Michael Turner, Dunta Robinson and John Abraham

The Atlanta Falcons made the Michael Turner release official today. They also added Dunta Robinson and John Abraham as part of the release. The Falcons should save a ton of dough after releasing the vets.

Should the Chargers pursue any of the vets that were just put out on the street?

Turner is a former Charger player and can add some veteran leadership to the runningback group. He would be a backup to Ryan Mathews, but nothing else. The Chargers still should pick up another youngster from the draft if they pick up Turner. His tires barely have any tread on them, so it would just be a stop gap and insurance for Ryan Mathews.

Dunta Robinson would be an interesting signing, but it would probably be better for the Chargers to focus in on signing the younger Antoine Cason for a few more years. Cason is not a fan fave, but he has been getting more and more consistent. Robinson would be better than Quentin Jammer, but Jammer will probably have a cheaper price tag. Plus, if we had Robinson and Bigby in the secondary, I would never know which one is which!

Okay, I promise I am not on something. But remember when LeGarrette Blount was good for the Bucs? Could he be like Mike Tolbert for the Chargers? Dude is big, most couldn’t get him down- then he got benched for Martin. I understand that, but do you think he has anything worth looking at and would he work for a reasonable amount? I remember some of the games where he was really doing something before Martin came along.

Maybe he could help out Matthews. I don’t know but just thinkin.

His ball security is worse than Mathews

      • Ernie Padaon

        well there is that too

I am going to do some research on his dropping the ball. I remember him dropping the ball at least two times, but who knows–maybe it was more. I just remember back in the day when he was really playing for the Bucs–jumping over guys who couldn’t get him down.

Mathews had 2 fumbles last year, Blount had zero but he had less than 50 carries because of the “muscle hamster” Blount and Mathews both had a season with 184 carries 2012 for Mathews 2011 for Blount. Blount had 3 fumbles 1 more in the same amount of carries isn’t that different. Is Blount a free agent or a Restricted free agent? I wouldn’t like the idea of giving up a pick to sign Blount.

          • Ernie Padaon

he is a restricted free agent. I wouldnt want to give up a pick to get him either. Just like Chris Ivory… would love him, but wouldnt want to give up a pick to grab him… unless it is a late late pick

          • Stefanie Smith

Forget it if he is a restricted FA. We need our picks.

You are on the kool-aid. Don’t worry, there is enough for all of us! :-)

      • Stefanie Smith

I just choked on my koolaid from laughing.

    • Ernie Padaon

hmmmm… i wouldnt mind having him in the backfield either. He is a bruiser and definitely could give Mathews a push.

  • ChargerGirl Cindi

I’m kind of surprised they released Turner, but I don’t want him back. He’s a great back and a nice guy, but we need young and healthy. Turner is 31.

I thought it was a little harsh to dump off Abraham. I think he still has something left. But I guess the Falcons are moving on. Sort of sad. It makes me feel bad when the Chargers do it–even with Garay. Hate getting rid of the guys that have been with the team for awhile.

dunta robinson might be a good pick up next to wright the only knock on robinson would be money.
