Chargers Fans React To Kansas City Trade For Alex Smith

The Kansas City Chiefs made a move to pick up Alex Smith. It is a bold move. I asked for Chargers fans reaction over twitter and here is what some of them thought:

Chargers are doomed. Chiefs have smith and Charles. Broncos have manning, we have rivers and Matthews broken shoulder.

    • JoseSD

Yeah Jamaal Charles carried them to 2 wins and never being in the lead until game 9

  • TheReturnOfMrBlanks

I am so ready for some Charger moves, any guesses to when they might start making some cuts? I have feeling sometime next week.

Definitely soon… Free agency is starting soon, so we have to make that room

      • Rob Base

The sooner the better! We’re all anxiously waiting!

I’m happy with the trade long-term (i.e. mediocracy) I am, however, concerned about the short term implications of the deal. This means that they’ll almost certainly take an OT number 1, with the way Fisher is improving his stock him and jockel will go 1 and 4 minimum. Lane’s combine also put him into top 10 consideration, so does that mean he goes number 7 to cards?

All this means is that we have to settle for a guard, when a tackle is probably more important. :)

I can see the chargers going after a left tackle in free agency now

      • http://twitter.com/FooIio Calum

I’m down with that. A good year for it I hear. Still, expensive purchases.

        • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

Expensive… But a position worth spending money on (if they pan out)

          • http://twitter.com/FooIio Calum

            important caveat ;)

          • TheReturnOfMrBlanks

What do you do if all 3 LT’s are taken and Warmack is taken at the #10 spot….lol Alot of Mocks have us falling 1 spot behind the guys we really need. I really want Ansah and address the Line in FA and 3rd or 4th round

          • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

            i would probably take cooper

          • lblocz

try to trade down a little bit then draft cooper best scenario imo if everyone else is gone.

          • TheReturnOfMrBlanks

Charles Davis NFL insider 1st Mock as of today has all 3 LT’s and both Guards gone in the top 10. How interesting, if that happens we can have our pick of top defensive player at #11 (minus Millinar and Jordan)

          • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

what if we went cordarelle patterson with that pick instead? now that could be somethin!

          • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

oh… you got a link to that mock? i wanna put a post up mentioning the possibilities and see what others think. will shoot props your way on the post

I can see them just securing a takle, guard or both in FA. I think warmack is gone by 8 or 9. Who the hell really knows what trades will happen too. I could see the jets and or the titans trading down and the Jets could still pick up the DE they want.

I see them going for a LT in Free Agency, or making what we have now work (which is scary to say the least!). I already thought it was wishful thinking that we get Johnson anyway… and possibly a reach (even with a great combine). The Chiefs will likely take Joekel, and the Cards and Eagles will likely take Fisher & Johnson. There’s no way you can just expect that we can trade up, or hope that Johnson doesn’t get taken before 11. We will probably take Warmack or Cooper, so that’s not bad. I still think Warmack will be the BPA when we pick, and Cooper isn’t that far off.

maybe we can trade Big Lazy for a third rounder. hahahaha

        • RussinSactown

OK a fifth rounder and a bag of Doritos.

Well… he will play behind Joekel, so he will have elite blind side protection (even if it takes Joekel a season to gel). He had a really good o-line in S.F., and he only threw 5 picks in 16 games in 2011. Only 5 over 10 games before he got hurt too, so he is not giving up dumb INT’s. I’m not saying Alex Smith is the business. However, he is a step up from Cassel, will be playing with a chip on his shoulder, and can occasionally produce when he needs to. Look at what he did to New Orleans in the playoffs in 2011. He had better targets, agreed. But, he slung the ball pretty darn well in that game. I’m not as convinced he is as mediocre as some others are, I suppose. The Bolts should not overlook him.

  • Cgoodness13

If we don’t resign vasqueze then we should take either warmack or cooper….but it seems like very few know the 1 guard we currently have under contract who was supposed to be a 1st-2nd round pick last year before he got hurt…..

  • Cgoodness13

Well….we still have to see who they resign in free agency……I’m guessing they are going to trade down in the draft….but to who is what I’m worried about

  • RussinSactown

Alex Smith was two muffed punts away from the Super Bowl. Sure he’s not as flashy as Kaepernick but he’s not some beer league QB. The AFC west just became that much harder to compete in.
