Tyrann Mathieu Finishes Combine With Mixed Results

The artist formerly known as the “Honey Badger” had a mixed bag of results

finishing up the combine. He stepped up during the interview process and said everything that people want to hear. He is a changed man and isn’t going to hide anything from the past.

Then he stepped to the bench press and could only managed an embarassing 4 reps. Mathieu recognized the weakness and said that he needs to get into the

weight room and it will be something he focuses on going forward.

To be fair, he focused in mostly on speed and should have probably skipped the bench press just like Manti Te’o did. But the kid wasn;t going to hide anything. He clocked in at 4.43 in the 40 and looked good in positional drills.

He could be a risk to draft, but he could be a steal in the later rounds. I wouldn’t mind taking a risk on him in the 4th. If we could get another 3rd, I would jump all over it.

I can do 6 reps of 225, what was the next worse bench number or was he the worst? He looked good though in everything else, would love to take a chance on him too.

    Honey Badger don’t care.

Telesco talked about making character a high priority in setting his draft board, and that a lot a players will not be considered because of character concerns. Sounds like there is no chance in hell Matheau is going to be a charger.

true… but if he passes interviews and shows that he can be a good citizen, then he might get a second chance. Their newest signing Johnny Patrick was arrested for misdemeanor assault and we still signed him.

From time to time it’s worth taking a chance. Players that overcome problems and learned from them come back stronger. Then again, some people never learn. It’s a waiting game to know about tyrann

In my high school weight lifting class I put up 4 at 225 for the end of the year test, 4 reps for a Heisman finalist who was once considered a top NFL prospect is just embarrassing especially when that safety from Syracuse put up 34 reps
