Tom Telesco Wants to Sit Down With Jared Gaither

I love that San Diego Chargers GM Tom Telesco wants to make the decision on his own and he won’t let the fans and anyone else influence his decision. That is the way I want my GM to work.

“I want to talk to him,” Telesco said. “I can’t make any decisions based on what people have told me. It’s a new regime. I’ve got to get to know everybody. I’ll take opinions from everybody. In the end, it’s our decisions. Will he be back for training camp? I don’t know. I’ve barely talked to him. We have a lot of work to do.”

That is what my GM is supposed to do! Half the time, I am shooting off my mouth because I am so emotional about my team. We all do the same thing!

Sure, there are times when we are right about who we should have taken, but you never remember the crappy player you wanted the team to get. I thought Ronnie Brown and Eddie Royal would have been awesome pickups for the team before we actually picked them up and they weren’t that awesome.

If Jared Gaither impresses Tom Telesco, than more power to him. I want Jared Gaither to succeed as a Charger. It frustrates the crap out of me to see him slacking off on the sideline. It’s because he has much freaking talent that is going to waste!

Have you ever seen the man? He is a mammoth! If Tom Telesco thinks that his staff can turn him around, then let’s make it work.

Didn’t we just get rid of a GM who doesn’t care what the fan’s think?
Moreover, I care what the players think, and Jared has lost the locker room, there ain’t no amount of atonement gonna fix that

    • arnie

When did Telesco say that? From what I’ve read, it sounds like he’s doing his job. It was the former GM that didn’t have a lot of contact with players.

      • Pete Spinning

        Exactly. I agree.

    • DougM

And Telesco shouldn’t care what fans think either – in regards to personnel. GMs and scouts know more than we do. If the fans were in charge we’d have half of a team because we overpaid players and blew up our salary cap and we’d still have LT at running back because we never had the guts to let him go.

i think im with u on this one E, but i dont think it should be easy for him to step on the field. i think a lil restructure of the contract with some tough stipulations involved along with making him earn his job back, with that i would be down see him still rocking the blue and gold. but when i say he has to earn it, i mean he really has to earn it. and like u said , it is very sad to see such a talent go to waste. i just think he needs to go on a diet with a lil P90X lol maybe take a yoga class for that back lol

  • Jonah Lee

Deep, strong and I couldn’t agree more. Telesco is doing the right thing by being a General and getting to know every soldier! that’s how its done!!

  • RussinSactown

It all comes down to whether or not Gaither can convince Telesco that he can be an asset. Hope he doesn’t use the gold walker when he visits Telesco’s office.

  • thegorn

Telesco’s doing the right thing. That said, we still need to draft a LT somewhere in the first three rounds. You can’t count on Gaither to be there.

  • Steven White

he better bring an extra chair because that lazy ass takes up 3.

  • #TheBoltFather

I bought a Meachem and Royal jersey as soon as they were available…. smh. I thought they would be studs. Oops.
The Gaither thing is such a tough call. What he’s done in the eyes of the players might be past fixing.
I do, however, really like everything that Telesco has said and done, up to this point. So impressed.

  • BlueBoltFan

Also, since Gaither counts $6.5 million against the cap if the chargers keep him and $6 against it if released, it’s more a question of attitude and team morale than money or cap space. In other words, keeping him doesn’t really change anything in going after another tackle in the draft or free agency. A talented rookie or FA could always start at RT if they can’t beat Gaither out for starting LT.

  • Stefanie Smith

I agree here, but no sense in going over the same territory simply because there is a new regime. Gaither’s actions speak for themselves. No need to start it all over again. However, we do have a dilemma seeing the goofy deal AJ gave Gaither, so the cap hit is a problem also.

Also, I am more concerned with a statement McCoy made at a Combine press conference–that he thinks “within the next 10 years”, the Chargers could be a championship team.

Well, someone should ask him, where we will be at 3 years, 5 years, etc. That is ridiculous that he is giving a 10 year time frame.

    • RussinSactown

I get him saying it’s a process. Truth it’s we have to build a lot, fix a lot of holes left by AJ and Norv. I don’t expect anything in the next year except being competitive. Year 3-5 we should be monsters again

  • Tim O’Shea

Have to let him go. A new begining means a new sense of accountability. Gaither is lacking accountabilty. The players know it. The fans know it. Grab Fischer (LT) in the 1st rd. and the FA gaurd out of Buffalo. Use the 2nd pick for best available offensive gaurd, tackle or center (Harwick has too many miles and dings at this point) and rebuild your O-line for the future now so they can start to gel. Bolts have allot of holes but none more importnat than the O-line . . .

  • Nick in PB

Obviously, Gaither needs some motivation. That’s the only way he turns his career around. He has done a lot of damage here but maybe, just maybe, Tolesco can light that fire. We are going to pay him either way. How many of us wouldn’t like to see the Gaither of 2 years ago start the season that way? If he would adjust his attitude, it would improve our O-Line immensely! That is a big IF!

    • Pete Spinning

I hear ya Nick! Great comments.
One thing that bugs me, is that everyone keeps talking about “making the locker room happy”. When Norv & A.J. were in town we had a happy, yet totally unproductive locker room. Remember the stunned looks on the players faces after meltdowns of epic proportions (Denver / New Orleans / Baltimore)? Blow that locker room UP!!!!
The players in the “new” locker room shouldn’t even have time to worry about Gaither! They should be busy working their asses off trying to make the roster, and making sure they aren’t on the chopping block. Especially after the last THREE years of dissapointing performances.

      • David Wu

You make a lot of sense Pete, everyone except for Rivers, Weddle, and maybe Scifres should be looking over their shoulder and dreading the pink slip. However, allowing Big Lazy to stay would send mixed messages to the players and probably create extra drama. He just needs to go be a drain somewhere else!

        • Pete Spinning

I have a feeling that will be the case. I am, at least, just glad to hear that Telesco is making his own decision, and is not going to be swayed by fan opinion. I’m sure he will take the player’s feelings into account, as well.

  • TheReturnOfMrBlanks

Isn’t he literally the biggest dude in the NFL? You would think when you have God’s gift of giantism you would actually want to use it.

I kinda hope Telesco can get Gaither to change his ways, I don’t like Gaither at all but if someone (anyone) can get this douche to change his ways I would be down for the 2nd coming of the Big Lazy.

  • Tom Spalsbury

Telesco’s right. We need to trust his decisions. We were very excited to get him as our New GM.Let’s roll with it and see what he can due.I have complete faith in all our new coaching staff. Now lets see our Chargers come to life.I really don’t think this coaching staff will put up with slackers our the big lazy.

    • Pete Spinning

Trust that. Slackers are going to get bounced (whether it’s Gaither, or anyone else)!!!

      • 619chargers4life

  • Cgoodness13

Keep him, hate me for saying this, but it’s not the first time we’ve had problems with injured players getting hurt again. I understand he’s has had problems with discipline issues, but a good coach can fix that, if not then we can suspend him and probally make a case to Goodel (or however you spell his name). You put a undiciplined player under a softy like Norv and this was bound to happen. I’d rather save all the money up we can with out cutting any players (including spikes and meachem) and try to restructure their contracts. Maybe we can get the nfl to step in and ad a condition to Gaithers contract that he can be cut and not owed any money if he gets hurt or suspended.

  • Cgoodness13

Also I feel like I have I say this, harbaugh turned Vernon Davis around right?

  • Mike

UMMM ronnie brown was actually not bad i dont know what your talking about.

  • @BOLTSFAN1972

We did it in Bal.,KC,and SD he has missed more games in his career than anyone . He needs to go!!!
