Montee Ball… Moneyball.
What does everyone think of Montee Ball? The running back class is headed by Eddie Lacy. Lacy might be the only back that gets drafted in the first round.
Ball should be available in the second round of the draft when the San Diego Chargers select, but he would be an even better value when the third round comes around. Don’t know if he will last that long. Mike Mayock ranked him as the second best back in the draft. Ball doesn’t stand out in any particular area, but he does a lot of everything well. He is not a dazzler. He just gets the job done.
It is hard to deny his success in college. He can be an immediate threat in the running game and can make an impact in the passing game. He can block for the quarterback and he has great hands to be a receiving threat.
If he were selected by the Chargers, he would give Ryan Mathews a lot of competition for playing time. I am sure a ton of the Mathews haters would be thumping for Ball to be the starter.
“They say I’m not special,” the University of Wisconsin running back said Monday after a pre-combine workout at IMG Academy. “They say I’m not especially fast. They say I’m not especially big. Well, fine, I’ll take that as a compliment. They’re not tearing me apart. They’re just saying that I don’t do one thing special. So what? If you’re pretty good all the way around, then you can be a very good running back.”
Curtis Martin and TD were some pretty dang good backs. Could Montee Ball reach that level? I wouldn’t mind having a back like that on the roster.
