Oklahoma OT Lane Johnson Ran A 4.67 40-Yard Dash Today

Oklahoma OT Lane Johnson is rising up draft boards all over NFL offices. The NFL Combines start on February 20th and people are expecting Johnson to keep rising up the draft.

One of the reasons people expect him to rise up the draft is because of his incredible athleticism. He will be able to showcase that in the Combines.

Today, the 6-foot-7, 305 pound beast ran a 40-yard dash and clocked in at 4.67 secs! 4.67 FREAKING SECS!

Compare that 40-time against our 1st round draft pick from last season, Melvin Ingram. Ingram measured in a 6-foot-1, 264 pounds and ran the 40 in 4.66 seconds.

6 inches taller and 40 pounds heavier and runs about the same speed. That is straight cra-cra!

Expect him to get a lot of attention and love at the combines. Three offensive tackles could be selected within the first 11 picks. Some team may try to push their way in front of the Chargers in the draft to try and select one of the tackles.

Underwear Olympics (the combines) start in a couple of weeks. Watch the hype on players like Johnson build.

I remember a couple years ago there was an athletic freak offensive tackle named Bruce Campbell, he showed great athleticism, strength, speed every mock draft had him going to the Raiders in the top 10, we all know how Al Davis falls in love with speed. The raiders did draft him, in the 3rd round I think he’s a backup for the Carolina Panthers now. Lane Johnson looks the part and he has the speed and athleticism to play in a zone blocking scheme but I hope they do their research to make sure he’s a right fit and worthy of the 11th pick and not just a guy that happens to be available at a position of need

Good call Jose. I have always thought he would be a reach at 11. Still kind of new to the position. Gotta love his upside but I think that if Fisher isn’t available, we pass. Even though it’s without a doubt our biggest need. We were hurt by Lewan and Mathews staying at school another year. Right now, it’s hard to say what we do at 11. If they do grab this guy, you would think they did a lot of research on him and we’ll have to trust their judgement.
