Carolina Panthers LB Luke Kuechly Named 2013 Defensive Rookie of the Year

Remember when we drafted LB Melvin Ingram and thought that he could get the chance for the defensive rookie of the year award? That disappeared when he was stuck on the sideline behind Jarret Johnson and Shaun Phillips and couldn’t get the reps to get any rhythm.

Will Melvin Ingram turn out to be a stud in this league? We should find out this coming season. Shaun Phillips is a free agent and the Chargers may not bring him back. If Phillips does return, Ingram should benefit from getting work in the offseason and should also benefit with the change in the coaching staff. The previous head coach didn’t like to send out young players onto the field.

This year’s defensive rookie of the year is Carolina Panthers LB Luke Kuechly. He led the league in tackles as a rookie and he started all 16 games. The award was well deserved. Congrats to Kuechly. Hopefully our boy Melvin will make some good things happen for us next season.

This is why these awards are just so stupid. While Kuechly wasn’t even the best ILB rookie(Bobby Wagner was) the award should of gone to Hayward in GB.

Here is what i have to say about melvin. he was a victim of circumstance. after the false start of english, and the signing of Double J, Ingram was going to be hard pressed for playing time. Money pushed JJ into the starting role. and favoritism of english , from aj, took even more time away from the potential defensive star.
Melvin, an the fans were robbed of a great opportunity, from the former regime, to compete for the honor, of Defensive ROY.

I think Melvin will be a beast next year…..he came out of college playing D Line and a little a olb if he works on his technic and he ll be good

Who knows I’m more worried about who going to be rivers backup QB and if you say charlie whitehurst then your wrong. If he are backup QB next year then we are in trouble and I hate to see rivers go down and we don’t have a plan B cause the chargers brass fialed to find a decent QB in free agnecy just keep that in mind.
