Chargers Speak With Central Michigan OT Eric Fisher

The San Diego Chargers scouts made their way over to chat with Eric Fisher on Wednesday, per Draft Countdown. Fisher is one of the big boys up front that have had scouts buzzing during the Senior Bowl. I have been talking about him for the last few days because he constantly is mocked to us with the 11th pick and he has been killing it at the Senior Bowl.

Fisher is the big left tackle from Central Michigan whose athleticism and size has been impressive. He fits the biggest need on the offensive line for the San Diego Chargers. Other teams that are in need of a left tackle will try to make a move up in the draft before the Chargers to take Fisher.

If only Jared Gaither could kick that lazy injury bug, then we could look at a different position with our top pick. Instead, we need to get as many big dudes for the offensive front that we can grab.

If Fisher is not available with the 11th pick in the draft, then we will look at the next best offensive lineman. Moving down in the draft and snatching up more picks could be an option as well.

Keep an eye on the big left tackle this weekend to get a glimpse at what could be our future blind side protector. I am sure Philip Rivers would enjoy this selection.

Hopefully with the new regime in place, we will have a first round pick this year that won’t cause us to say “who is that”?

    • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

      Truth… Or WHY?!?

    • JoseSD

Lol, that’s what happened with Buster Davis, Cason,English. I remember watching the drafts hoping they’d take Desean Jackson, Brandon Flowers, and Clay Matthews or Rey Mauluga then when they made the pick I was like who?

      • tbell11

For DeSean Jackson, the Chargers had taken CB Cason. Now Cason did win the best DB award his senior year b/c he had 7 picks. Brandon Flowers also was in the same year as Cason. Clay Mathews and Rey Mauluga both came out when the Chargers drafted English and I wanted Michael Oher instead, but Mathews and Mauluga ran a 43 defense at USC, but looking back at it now Mathews all the way lol.

Did anybody watch the Senior Bowl Practice on NFL Network. Fisher is a beast he was dominating his guy in the one on one drills

    • blu3ny3llow

Yeah he and Johnson were beastin’……also saw a few guards that might be there in the 2 or 3 round that looked good…

      • JoseSD

Fisher neutralized the D lineman from Texas, Okafor, made him look like a child going up against a grown man

  • Preston Niedert

Don’t get your hope up ppl fisher might be gone by the time chargers draft so there a good chance we draft chance warmack also we should draft a CB like banks if not Rhodes or Logan then take a RB and sign Chris ivory in free angecey and we are set in the RB department.

    • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

      I would love Chris ivory!

      • Sergio Quintero

I like Ivory or Reggie Bush (promise him 40/50 of the carries and passing and 3rd down situations) as possible signings for the chargers.

  • blu3ny3llow

I would love if they got Fisher…but Lane Johnson would be good too…..a bit raw but has alot of up side…many say its a reach…… but many have also said getting a guard in the early 1st is a reach…..so i just hope they get a good lineman….PERIOD!!!!

  • Sergio Quintero

Chargers need the teams ahead to overvalue the QB’s, have a feeling Geno Smith, Mike Glennon and Ryan Nassib will be picked ahead of the chargers, my draft cluster for 11:
    1 Eric Fisher
    2 Chance Warmack
    3 Dee Milliner
    4 Lane Johnson
A surprise player to drop might be Jarvis Jones, supposedly he has spinal problems, and might be available at 11, have to seriously look at taking him.

  • arnie

You know what i like most of all Ernie, about who the Chargers are scouting? Winners. the Chargers are targeting players that dominate, or at least winners in some fashion. It doesn’t seem to matter whether they can get them or not, but they are talking to winners.

    • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

Truth. Talking to players that we actually have heard of from schools we have heard of

      • arnie

Exactly. is that to much to ask? those are the best schools for a reason. they produce some of the best players.

  • Nick in PB

We would likely have to trade up to get Fisher. And then, what would that cost for a team needing to build. I don’t think we’re in the position to give up draft picks to move up. It’s too bad the other two Tackles opted to stay in school. Warmack may be the best option if we stay in the 11 spot. Even if we traded down, we’d likely loose out on Warmack. I’m not sold on Johnson to come right in and start. It’s going to be interesting to see what we do. Our biggest need is certainly OLine, but I doubt Fisher will fall that far.
